Special Needs Dog in Need of a Home....How to help him find a home.

The way this dog has been treated makes me sick.

the story is really sad. The dog is a 1 year old Male White deaf boxer with blue eyes. The dog belongs to my aunts (my marriage) brother.

He got the dog about a year ago and decided since the dog was useless to him, in his opinion because the dog is deaf it can't be trained. (Which is not true). He said he is fed up with the dog and if someone came and wanted him tomorrow he would hand him over no questions asked. The dog is being kept out in the cold with very little to no shelter.

How would you suggest going about finding him a good home, they have asked all friends and relatives and posted an ad in the local paper.

    What else?

My aunt feels so bad over this and feels like responsible for the dog so she is trying to find him a home (she has 2 boxers herself and just can't take in another)

I can't take him either my apartment has a 2 dog limit. I know we have this all over myspace. Poor thing is going to freeze to death I'm afraid if we dont find him a home soon, owner just turned him out in the cold.

What do you suggest we do to find him a home.  Flyers, craigslist maybe?

Already working on that route, she is not sure she wants to turn him over to a rescue.  I'm trying to explain the benefits of boxer rescue.  I checked at the one closest to us and they said they can't take anymore right now.  So I am looking at other areas.

Ask Boxer rescue if they can post a courtesy listing for him.  Contact local trainers in your area to see if they know a private foster situation, or private rescue group.  Contact the no kill shelters.  Ask someone at the Boxer club in your area if they know anyone.  Post flyers at vet clinics.

I don't give out my location on the internet.

I wanted to add I just  talked to her and she ended up calling the rescue I talked to.  And at first they said they couldn't do anything but then they called her back and said they might be able to take him after all, due to his special needs they have a foster that would be willing to take him for now, but they said they would get back to her and let her know for sure by the end of the day.    I contacted another rescue who I got my dog from who almost never say no to taking a special needs dog and I'm just waiting to hear back from them

I wasn't asking for an exact address or anything, just a general idea so that I could determine if I would be able to help.  I too do not give out my personal information or address on the internet, it just isn't always safe.  Glad you found a possibility.

That works.  Close enough that I may be able to help, I have been considering getting a rescue in the near future may be able to move that up a little.  Also, let me see if any nearby rescues here are able to help since I could help with transport if necessary.

Good news. he is going some place warm tonight.   The rescue I have a contact at has a foster who works with boxers and she is picking him up today!   He will be fostered by her until they can get him a home!!!!!!   So he will never set foot in an actual shelter but a foster home.

    http://www.deafdogs.org

Also Petfinder has a whole special needs section -- and unfortunately it tends to be used only by heartworm positive dogs NOT dogs like this one who need a knowledgeable family.

Deaf dogs do better with other dogs.  holler if I can help more -- I have HAD deaf dogs.  Would take another in a heartbeat but I've got an elderly peke right now who is an incredible amount of care.

Is this dog still up for adoption? If so, do you think there is anyway he can be transported into kentucky? I live in lexington, was wondering if somehow we can get him halfway here? do you have any pictures of him?
