how do you keep a dog from going into some parts of the garden?

is it possible? am i able to train it that it is not allowed in those areas? i know those places are tempting to go as they are full of plants or dirt to dig. when he goes in, i grab him out and say "no" but he just runs straight back in. he's a puppy and i've been trying to train him...
