Info on dog tags

Boomerang tags here.  FAR better than any other tags I've bought over the years.

Info on tags: Pet's name, my & DH's name, my cell number, DH's cell number

I just have a name on the front, and two phone numbers on the back - mine and my mother's, as she is a stay-at-home dog mom and is almost always around to answer the phone.

Mine have embroidered collars, and they have tags, but don't wear them. The only way to catch Emma is with food. The only info I have on her tag that's not on her collar is "NEEDS MEDICATION, DO NOT FEED!" By the time somebody  caught her, she'd be fed.

I got mine at Pet Smart. They have held up well. They have their names, my home phone # and cell phone # on them.

Neither of my dogs have tags at the moment.  Luke lost his ages ago and it was never replaced because he rarely wears a collar.

Kaiser needs one, though, and his fell off and was lost a couple of weeks ago.  I'm looking at the Boomerang site at their collar tags (not the dangling one) and have spent the last half hour trying to figure out if I should get him the mini collar or the 5/8" collar....  The collar he's currently wearing is an 8-12" collar that is 3/8" in width, almost maxed out in length, but fits him fairly loosely.  I *think* their mini collar (for dogs 7-11";) would work...  Part of me wonders if I should bump up to the 5/8" collar for better visibility, but I like the smaller collar on him...  I keep flipping back and forth between the pages not knowing which one to get.

So far we've just gotten ours at Petsmart in that machine.  It has her name, our names and both of our cell phone numbers.  I've recently lost it.  I somehow attached her leash through it and somehow it pulled them off and they flew into the snow.  I need to get another so I'll check out some of the places people have mentioned.

Red Dingo has stainless steel tags overlaid with enamel in different colors. They are very cute, you see them at dog shows and pet stores.  I don't think you can order them online but you can look at them.

my dogs wear their microchip rag, rabies tag, therapy dog tag (if applicable), county license and their permanant tag which I order off Ebay from a company in australia: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=300286867655 which I LOVE , they are beautiful and very strong. Their perm tag has name, phone number and "I am microchipped"

They also wear what my fiance jokingly calls their "medicine bags" which is a small water proof zipper pouch attached to their collars which has a laminate peice of paper inside with medicine information, various contacts, vet info, reward info, and other information. I started using these because we take our dogs to shows, or on vacation, or hiking, and this way I can constantly change their information in case they get lost far from home.

My boys wear Petsmart tags with name and home phone number and vet's phone number.

    Just for interest sake....

I work at a hotel that is dog friendly and we offer our K9 pets their own, branded, beds and bowls.  There is a temporary tag in the kit with the hotel's number, crest and a place to write in other info.  Dog owners LOVE this when they are travelling.

    This is really neat!

Mine are by Cleopetra. They're pricey, but they have tons of choices and by far THE cutest tags I've ever seen! I like the glitter tags the most. I have my dog's name and my cell number on it. They also make picture frames, dog leash hooks and a few other things.

Front: OUR contact details.  Back:  I'm chipped - scan me.

The cat is spayed; this info is also on her tag, in case some bright spark thought they could make money by breeding her (she is a very pretty cat, and unusual in this area).  I would also do this if I had a spayed pedigree female dog Smile  If you have an animal who needs regular meds, this should also be on their tag.... if you live in an area with a dog/cat theft problem, put that on ANYWAY - could deter some thieves Smile

I never put the animals name on the tag - too much other info needs to be on there with limited space, and there is no NEED for stranegrs to know my dogs name.  They DO need to know my contact details and that my pet is chipped... and if I had a diabetic animal, they would need to know that too.

You're the first to mention this but I was wondering about it too. Why would a stranger need to know my dog's name?

I did some looking on-line and I found this tag. I think it's adorable:

But I also really want a tube tag so I can put all the info I want: Current on vaccinations, Microchip #:, License #:, Needs daily medicine. Does anyone know where to get any that are stainless steel?

    • Gold Top Dog

I'm with Chuffy on this one, my dog's name isn't on his tag and there's no reason to have it there.  His tag fulfills the legal requirement, which is MY full name, contact numbers, address and postcode.  Additionally I have "microchipped" on the back.

If Ben got out and someone found him and rang me, I'd tell them his name.  If he got out and no one rang to tell me because they wanted to keep him, they'd probably change his name.  I've had him scanned at my only local shelter and they can read his chip, plus I have pet insurance which covers advertising expenses if he's lost and a reward to anyone who finds him, so I think I've covered the bases.

I put the dog's name on my tags so someone can talk to my dog and build rapport if they find my dog.  I've never had any trouble not being able to fit all the info I need.  I suppose if that were an issue I might not include the dog's name, but as it stands I have their name on the front and back, and still have my name, two phone numbers, my full address, REWARD, a line about the dog being up to date on shots, and a line or two with any other info (some tags have a birthday, others have a chip number).

I got a tube tag for Kenya and it fell off the first week I had her.  It kept falling off so I never bothered with them again.
