    Anyone ever use...

Anyone ever use one of those things that attaches to your bicycle so you can have your dog leashed to it without pulling you over?  I think its called the ExPETition, or something cute like that...lol!  I was just wondering what everyone who has used it thought about it.  I was thinking of getting one, but then, I'd have to get a bicycle first.  Wink

I bought my niece one called Walky Dog and she loves it - she is a very petite 13 yr old and I mean very and has a westie.

I have been working on biking with Bugsy but it is a whole different thing with a large powerful dog Surprise

But we are getting there !

There's another one called the Springer, I think. Mhaddog (Mark) had one for running his huskies. It attaches to the uprights in the frame of the bike and has a sprung arm that sticks out to the side to attach the lead to. If the dog lags or bolts, the spring absorbs the energy so that your dog doesn't yank the bike out from under you.

There's a thread in the training section under Sports and Work that I made and someone gave me a link to site that has the "Springer" if you want to go over there and check it out.

Ok, thanks, guys! I was mainly just wondering if it really did its job in absorbing the dog's pulling.  Rafe's generally very good about not taking off after something (and doesn't pull hardly at all, unless its something amazingly interesting), but I don't really want to fear for my life if a bunny decides to run out in front of his nose.  Wink

I have a Springer.  It is pretty good.  THere is a break away feature to prevent you and the dog from tangling terribly if you do fall.  You must be very careful even during the training phase not to run the pads off the dog.  Very easy to do on road surfaces.

I'm bike shopping right now to get one and a springer too..They are used frequently at the 3 and 4 day dog show clusters. I've observed many people using them with a leash as well for added security.

I got my springer about 9 years ago.  I don't use it as often as I should.

Love to see that on a pair of huskies.  We are doing pretty good with just the walking, not sure I am ready for the 2 dogs and a bicycle yet.  I am getting too old to be falling off of a bike.  Yikes!

Brownie can NOT run along a bike at all.The first rabbitt he sees I would be on the ground!! lol

Cuddles runs along my bike with a regular leash so no problem with her.

    Possum is too small.

    Baxter is too energetic.

With a couple of huskies, why bother with a bike and springer? Get a gardening wagon with the pneumatic tires, a gangline, harnesses, and something to brake with. Even with trained sled dogs, you give the command to halt but you still put on the brake and throw out the snowhook.

It took Crusher all of 2 days to figure out how to run with a bike.  I haven't gotten a springer yet so he runs on his collar, but once I do get a springer he'll switch to his distance harness.  He's got too much power with a harness on to try it with just his leash tied under my seat though.  The other thing that the springer does I believe is, it holds the dog away from the bike so if he gets spooked he can't crash into you.

Do those things have any kind of prevenatative for the dog getting under the front wheel? Penny seems to have a knack for diving under the front wheel of bikes.

That wagon looks cool Ron!  We have a kind of a mean hill to go down though.  I think I will stick to the walking. I need the exercise too. I can just imagine gliding down the hill and braking to slow down, landing in the big lilac bush at the bottom! Or my little gal sees a squirrel and bee lines after it. ...Something for the neighbors to talk about , lol.
