Making up for Sunday- Monday chat

Decided to get it started early since it was such a late start yesterday, and I also can't sleep.

Jen, hope you had a better night than it started out!!  It's another Florida morning that is so humid you feel like you're "swimming" just getting TO the car LOL.

David brought me a roll from Panera ... and it was in a 'box'.  I asked him if I have to save the box for Tink?  Devil  I am SO bad!

Sigh, DH's man-flu is clearly going to kill him...............well actually it will likely be me that does it Hmm

Drumroll...... we had a sunrise. Can't see it from inside because all the windows are completely covered in condensation but I took B for an EARLY walk and we watched it. Blue sky. Craziness I tell you!

I feel better than I did but not great - long day today too.

Sadly my sister-in-law's cancer is back. She starts chemo on Wednesday. Its a different kind than the last time so fingers crossed.  My poor brother is so stressed. He wants desperately to get back into their house but it isn't livable yet and they still don't have the payout to finish what needs to be done. All so sad and frustrating. My mom is, as per usual, a rock. She keeps trucking along, will be taking my sister-in-law to chemo and sharing her home. If anyone should be a lock for heaven it is my mom.

Ouch. Sorry about you Sil. I hope the chemo is successful.

I have figured out that it is my indoor air that irritates my sinuses to the point that I get sick. Whenever I close up the house and turn the AC or heat on I can feel my sinuses go nuts. How do I fix that though? I am going to call a heating/cooling person and get my heater ac worked on (haven't done that ever). And I probably need to get rid of my carpet totally. That will require some cash and hiring someone too. But I think I want all this done before winter. Do you think an air purifier would work?

Karen, I am so sorry about your sister-in-law. The storm payouts have been so slow for so many--it's just nuts! Holler if there's anything I can do up here. On a brighter note--I can't believe you and B saw a sunrise! That's got to be a miracle!

We've got a heatwave going up here--it's hot (over 90) and muggy from yesterday through Saturday. Yuck is all I say. By Sunday, it's supposed to be less humid and the temps may go down to the 80s. I may have to break out the bathing suit...I have finally "won" the AC battle with my parents :-) It is on in their living room!

I'm heading to the Adirondacks Thursday for a weekend-long photography class. I'm quite excited, but we start before sunrise Sat. and Sun. To say I don't like mornings would be an understatement :-) Lots of coffee will be needed!

I'm sorry to hear of your SIL's cancer, Karen, as well as the slow recovery from the hurricane.

Julie, I wonder if an air purifier would help. Also, maybe cleaning out the a/c will help. It seems like they can recirculate crud. Jackie will probably be able to answer that.

Weekend was good. Saturday didn't seem as hot because we had a nice breeze but yesterday was brutal. Had a horse break an ankle at the track on Saturday, so that was a downer. Sad

ETA: the accounting software is upgraded and running. Now I just have to figure out some of the changes.

That's the big difference -- down here it's hot all the time ... but the air is on ALL the time.  It's not even a decision!  Glad you got your parents to cooperate, Kate -- that sort of heat/humidity is NOT good on the lungs.  have a great time at your seminar!!

Karen I am so very sorry about your SIL's cancer.  And with everything else -- gosh, sometimes it seems like life just conspires against folks. .... I suspect tho, Karen -- you enjoyed the sunrise more than B did!! =-)

David's got a computer conversion going on at work (sprung on him over the weekend Huh? ) which means a totally bizarro schedule for him the next two days.  It's a good thing I'm healed enough to get myself where I'm going!  Cos he's not going to be able to help.  He has to be back at work tomorrow morning at 3-4 a.m!  Whee.

Not much going on around here.  Caught no cats or skunks in the traps.  I didn't set one trap and something ate the food and pooped in the trap.  Maybe I'll catch whatever that was tonight.

Tina, that's so sad about the horse at the races. :(  Good luck with the new software.

Karen, I'm glad you finally got to see some sunshine.  I'm so sorry about your SIL and that they still haven't gotten back in their house.  How extremely stressful that must be for everyone.  Your mom deserves a medal but she'd laugh it off because that's just what moms do she'd probably say.

Julie, you've never had your heating/air conditioning system serviced?   Maybe I read that wrong.

A good friend's dog has a partially torn Achilles tendon.  She's researching now and talked to people who've had the surgery done only to have the tendon rupture again a few months post surgery/rehab.  She's super bummed out and I had no advice.  The dog is ten years old but very active and fit.  She told me about someone she knows of, through another friend, and this person bought a Field Trial Lab and paid $100,000.00.  Yep, you read that correctly.  A month after buying the dog, it ruptured it's Achilles tendon.  Had the surgery but months after rehab was done and the dog was good to start training again the tendon tore again.  Too bad she hadn't bought insurance on the dog.  She's now got a very expensive, lame house dog.  I think it's crazy to pay that kind of money for a dog but it's not unheard of in some high rolling circles of the Field Trial world.

We had a little rain early this morning and might have more later today.  We need it.  Cooled us off a little too.  We're only supposed to hit 90 today.

Karen, I hope they're able to get the cancer.

Something is up with car. After taking it to autozone, I believe it is probably the alternator. It's a question of repair or replace. If I replace, I don't want payments, but that's inevitable. It's a 2000 Volvo S70 with 244000 miles or so on it. If I do the repair, I need to grab a rental car. I don't think I should drive it to MA on Friday with it questionable either way. Although, it only cuts out at low speeds right now. I don't really have time to car shop right now either, but I think I may see what time places are open till.

oww Jen - -that so sucks.  Car crap is just ... ugh.  I'm so sorry!

I'm hoping this weather holds for awhile.  Warm days and cool nights ... perfect. I have a follow up dr. appt. this afternoon and I really need to find out exactly what is and is not in my chart.  If it's not in there that I require a very light hand with anesthesia, it needs to get put in there asap, and if it is in there it needs to be highlighted with a bright color so that whoever needs to see it will see it. Apparently if I had done drugs in the 60s/70s like everyone else, I'd have a higher tolerance.  Too late now. Tongue Tied

I think the yogurt cartons Max has been licking clean are reproducing on their own. Smile I got a bunch of them picked up yesterday and tossed into the recycle bag, and now there's another bunch scattered here and there.

Jackie, I know I have mentioned that before but I am not usuallyone to fix tthings until they are broken, except for changing oil an so forth on cars. Which you don't have to do with a furnace so other than cleaning it out, what does a service call every year do?

I wonder if that's true?!  :-)  I think each person can react differently to anesthesia.  I had my tonsils out when I was in my 20's.  My throat felt fine in a few days, but otherwise I felt like I'd been hit by a truck and had horrible fatigue for 3+ weeks.  The doctor said it was likely the anesthesia.  If you think about it, it's kind of a toxin that's goes in your entire system to put you basically in a coma for a period of time.

Karen, I'm so sorry to hear about your SIL's diagnosis.  And to deal with that while still being out of their home?  I can't imagine the stress she and your brother are experiencing.

Julie, our neighbor's son had severe asthma/respiratory issues, and they removed all their carpeting and fabric draperies.  Also, they had all their duct work cleaned out.  She said it was gross how much crap came out of there (after several years in the house with kids, pets, etc.).

Glad your parents agreed to turning on the A/C, Kate.  You hear so often that seniors won't use it.  I guess it's the expense they're concerned about?  We had a family friend who was in her 80's and wouldn't even turn her box fans on many days.  My mother would go in her apartment and think, "She's going to die in here; it's so hot!"

So sad about the horse, Tina.  And shocking about the $100K dog, Jackie.  I could see maybe a race horse, but a dog?  I know it exists, but I'm tempted to say those people have more money than sense.  Yikes.  What a risky investment!

Houseguests leave this afternoon, which is a day early.  We were up talking until midnight and alarm off at 5AM.  Needless to say, I've got a headache today!

Lots of people are exactly like you and I won't judge. lol  Preventative maintenance/service on air conditioning and heating equipment is done for the same reason it's done on any piece of mechanical equipment. :)  Here, where a/c's run almost year round, it's good to have the condensing coils (outside unit) cleaned of dirt, hair and debris every few years. Having a dirty condenser reduces efficiency and causes overheating problems if it's really dirty. Oil the motors on the inside unit and the outside and check the bearings.  Check the evaporator coil for dirt/hair/debris that can clog the fins of the coil (like a car's radiator) and restrict air flow which can cause all sorts of problems with air quality and damage the compressor.  Clean drain lines and I could go on and on. Are you still awake, even?  People come in two types when it comes to maintenance.  Wait till it breaks and pay the bill then or do the maintenance and hope you're preventing a major breakdown.   You've gone this long without any service so you're way ahead of the game.  :)   Lots of units we see look like they've never been cleaned, checked or serviced in twenty years or more and they're still chugging along.  Sometimes it's just a crap shoot.

Getting some nice rain showers here.  :)

Usually people that spend this kind of money and more (yes, much more) take out insurance.  I'm sure the part about having more money than sense applies too in many cases.  You'd be surprised or maybe you wouldn't, but dogs with tons of FT titles and solid winners in their pedigree, command top prices when it comes to breeding.  Then again, we all know what a crap shoot breeding can be.  I know quite a few peeps who sell their FT puppies for $6k and up per puppy.  They have plenty of buyers too.  It's just crazy to me.
