    spay tomorrow

Just looking for good thoughts and any info/ advice for Sadie's spay tomorrow. She'll be staying over night.

Sending good thoughts that all goes smoothly.   I know I always worry a little when mine have any sort of procedure that involves anesthesia even though I try and pretend I'm not worried.  I'm never happy until they're home.

I usually insist mine come home the same day unless it's absolutely medically necessary that they stay overnight.  I think some vets insist on an overnight stay but it really shouldn't be necessary unless there are complicating factors. At least, that's been my experience.  Even so, I've had to leave mine overnight for different reasons and it's much harder on me than the dog. :) They mostly sleep the time away.  Best of luck.

I have to say I agree solidly with Jackie here - the FIRST thing to find out is if there is someone **present** at the facility over night.  Usually there is *not* and in that case especially they are safer with ME.  I find usually it's seen as an income opportunity for the vet to keep them an extra day.

But absolutely you have my good thots and prayers!!! It's hard on us too!

Good vibes for you and Sadie! I hate leaving Rupert at the vet, too. But when I drop him off I act all cheery, then usually start to cry a little once I'm out in the parking lot. lol. But of course they take excellent care of him and he's always fine. He's never had to stay overnight, though.

I will be thinking of you and Sadie,  Just check with the vet if you can take him home sooner.  Our vet likes the animals to go home as soon as possible rather than keep them if if it isn't needed.

I'm with the others, why on earth is she staying overnight?  And, if no one is staying with her, then bring her home.  There is no point to it, IMO.  None of my girls has had to stay overnight for a spay.

Either way, make sure you get some pain meds when you do bring her home.  Usually they are offered as an option; always get those for the females.

Paws crossed all will be well and she will be on the mend!

I assumed someone would be with her, or what's the point, right? I'll ask. I can tll you that I've called there late at night and early in the morning intending to leave a message and was surprised to have the head vet answer the phone. Poor thing is wondering why I'm not feeding her right now. :(
