    Tuesday chat

Why do weeds grow so fast? They have over taken my flower beds. I think I have lost the war for the season.

I'm melting in our 83% humidity. Trying to resist turning on the AC but I bet by noon, it'll be running full blast.

I'm back to work reality today. I work up 2 hrs early thinking of work. No fun!

I've wondered the same thing and more so since we moved here. Geesh!!

Pool co. didn't come yesterday but called to say they'd be here at 8:30. Not sure how that had been misunderstood but I'm just glad it'll be done by the time I get home.

After 5 days off I think I was finally getting the hang of sleeping a little later. I sure didn't want to get up this morning. Hopefully there won't be too much work stacked up for me but things have been really hectic lately, so I won't get my hopes up.

Buried at work, cramps, high humidity. It's a great day here in mid-Michigan.

just for a change its overcast, ridiculously humid and storms are expected............every day in the 10 day forecast too. The weather person said something like, " I keep hoping that Mother Nature is going to turn the garden hose off but it doesn't look like it for the near future" Sad

I just remind myself to be thankful that by and large this area seems to be able to cope with the water. We've had flash flood warnings for over a month and anytime it rains there is flooding but mostly small scale stuff.

I am going to call the doctor today - feel worse and now I'm wondering if the sore throat that popped up Sunday night is from the tick bite which is HUGE and blistery. Feeling feverish too.

Of course this didn't stop me from taking B to the lake for his rehab swim. He is so funny, after last week's cormorant chase he was out in the lake swimming to each No Wake Zone marker and checking if a bird was on it.  The combo of him getting stronger and more confident plus the new Ruffwear PFD have turned him into a monster. He swam 30 minutes - most of it in the middle of the lake - before heading to the shoreline. Then he had a drink and begged for me to toss his toy out again. He swam another 15 before heading in.  He was willing to head to the car afterward but he wasn't nearly as gassed as he has been

Alright, happy to be home today and able to make some calls, do some admin work and sort some personal stuff out. I feel a nap coming on too

Yo Deb, how are you and what is the drink of the day!!!

eta: re the weeds. Try adding inches of water every day and lots of heat and watch them grow. Literally the weeds and grass grow before your eyes LOL

This past weekend DH was saying how this one patch of grass in the front yard was all dead and brown and wondering what to do about it.  I told him we should dig out the dead grass and make a flower bed in it's place because then grass and weeds would quickly invade the new bed.

I took two Benadryl last night and slept good.  We bought two watermelons and they were supposed to be the same kind.  Nope.  One was a yellow flesh melon.  I like those if they're sweet but this one wasn't good at all.  The dogs liked it. :)

DH got his new treadmill delivered yesterday.  The two guys who delivered and set it up were total hunks. :)   I was only watching their every move because I didn't want them to damage anything in the process. Wink You know by flexing all those muscles. lol

Hmm I just looked up the "normal" rainfall totals for Raleigh -
from Jan 1 to July 9 "normal" is 21.62"
This year so far, from our local weather station it is: 47.36"

Sorry that won't let me unbold the font - I just posted this on FB. Incredible

Lucky you! Did ya' get any pictures (of the treadmill - LOL)?

Holy Hannah - that's a lot of rain, Karen! I also hope you can get to the root of why you've not been feeling well.

No, darn it, I didn't get any pictures.  I got my camera out and asked the guys to pose on the treadmill but they both got weird looks on their faces and then DH took my camera away.  Crying

It's hysterical --the dogs and watermelon this year.  I absolutely love watermelon -- sometimes I get it all cut up and in a nice little dish so I can grab it and take it to work.  Sometimes I get it on the rind.  Earlier after laying waste to a big piece for my lunch (I SO love it when it's nice and cold and crisp) the 3 dogs were convinced it could NOT be "over".  Dr. Xie (head of the Chi Institute) told me once that the white part is really VERY good for them.  And who am I to sit in the way of     good health for my dogs?

So I  gave each of them a piece -- Literally I just sliced thru the rind and handed it to them.  Luna -- Ms. All Business, immediately laid down, snagged it between her paws and gnawed it all the way to the outside rind.  More please?   Tink -- Dis is Bigger'n my Mouf Mom! ran to the other room to 'hide' it (oh joy in the living room).  Charlie - not normally the most adventurous eater -- just plain DEVOURED it.

I'm still sniggering about it.  Sunday I just couldn't resist -- the package I bought for work ... didn't make it.  We all devoured it.  Charlie is NOT what you'd call "food-motivated" (a spaniel?? Surprise ) but boy oh boy he LIKES watermelon.

They are such fun to watch.   WAY more fun than filing court docs is this morning!!

Apparently, our city council watched Camelot, and now it rains only after dark. The storms blow in, dump, and leave, taking the winds and leaving the humidity.

About an hour of rain last night with a little light show and about an inch of rain in the gauge. Now, it gets steamy, but the corn really likes that. Also, the tomatoes and other assorted produce in the garden. Really looking like a good year.

On vacation. Dog barking at 5:30, so I slept on the couch until 9. We took a walk just before the heat started to rise. We have a really nice park in town, cleverly named Green Space Park, that has a nice play apparatus set up. One of the daycare providers had her group on the unit. With all the rain and the flat ground in the park, any low spot is wet. Piper went wading through the swamp by the play set, and as we walked off I heard the daycare lady saying "No. Don't do that". One of the little kids liked the idea of splashing in the water. I thought about it for a bit.

Piper likes any mellon, and will eat every bit. Makes cleaning the yard interesting.

Ruby loves watermelon chunks, too.  I discovered that I can get her to chew the pieces if I stick them in the back of her mouth (from the side), right between her molars.  Otherwise, she just swallows the chunk whole without even tasting it!

Karen, I hope all your symptoms aren't related to that tick bite.  Yikes!  It's a good thing you're going to the doctor.  Those rainfall stats are insane!  It's unfortunate that there are parts of the country desperate for rain, while others are beyond soggy.

I have the first of two training sessions today for a new system at work that will affect a good portion of my tasks.  It'll be sitting in front of a computer, on a conference call with the trainer.  Not looking forward to it, I admit.

Edited to add -- I forgot to say your treadmill story was funny, Jackie.  Maybe the company thinks that if the installers look buff and fit, it'll motivate the buyers to to use the treadmill regularly!  Stick out tongue

ROFL!!! What kind did he end up buying? I want a new one too and more so now that I think a couple of hunks might deliver it :).

Yikes Karen - that is a ton of rain. California would've washed away if we got that much in a short time. I'm glad you made a dr's appt but hope your feeling ill has nothing to do with the tick bite.

Shane loves melon too. It has caused loose stools in the past, so I try not to get carried away with how much I give him. I think good watermelon is one of the very best things about summer but I hate when I get a not so good one.

It'll take me a couple days to catch up on all the work I had waiting for me :'(

Cathy, the brand is True but which model, etc. I don't know.  I'll ask or look tonight and let you know.  He bought a floor model and got a pretty good discount as it's not the very latest model. As soon as he starts talking features and whatnot my eyes glaze over and my brain disengages.  My criteria for what's required of a treadmill is pretty low.  It goes slow, medium and fast (I can even do without this one) and it doesn't make so much noise I can't hear the TV. :)

Yes it is a ton of rain - that number is from an official weather station set up at the lake around the corner so, that's our number. I knew it would be high but that surprised me. Now they are saying that tropical storm Chantal is on a path known to cause trouble here. I am going to have to figure out how to improve drainage in the one spot in my yard that is really suffering.

I am not too concerned if its from the tick bite - just means a course of doxycline or tetracycline depending on which tick-borne illness it is (might be). It was a tick known to carry erlichiosis and rmsf but I did remove it after at most 3-4 hrs. It wasn't an easy one to remove so we shall see.

Either way I was able - after 30 minutes - to get an appointment tomorrow. What a nuisance! 18 minutes on hold

Oh yes melon is a favorite of the Loch Ness Monster, er Bugsy

Speaking of treadmills and exercising, the other night we finally watched a documentary we recorded on the DVR ages ago.  It was called "The Truth about Exercise."  One of its main topics was whether or not the "standard" exercise requirement guidelines (e.g., a minimum of five 30-minute workouts per week) guarantees an improvement in aerobic fitness and insulin sensitivity.

The host took part in various studies, including one where he did high-intensity pedalling on an exercise bike for only 3 minutes a week.  His insulin sensitivy improved significantly, but his aerobic fitness not at all.  They previously tested him for genetic markers that can indicate if a person is a non-responder (to exercise), a super-responder (like an Olympian), or average (where the majority of people fall).  Turns out his genetic markers indicate he's a non-responder.  So, there can be genetic reasons why some people seem to do all the right things with exercise, yet still have weight or cardio health problems.

It was really interesting.  I think I'm a "non-responder" because I've been regularly walking 2+ miles in my VERY steep hilly neighborhood for a few years, yet I still feel like I'm having heart failure and cannot climb them with any ease at all.  Maybe I should save valuable time (since I'm not improving anyway) and just furiously pedal a bike for 3 minutes a week!  Stick out tongue

Here's a link to an article about the show, if anyone is interested:
