    Saturday Chat

Woke with a massive headache.  Possibly induced by lack of sleep and tequila.  Two aspirin and I'm now feeling human.  Breakfast would help but I'm not feeling energetic enough to fix anything but cereal and we're out of cereal.  How did that happen?

We got home last night to find the air conditioning drain line had clogged and water all over the hall and in the hall closet.  That wasn't much fun to deal with but we got it cleared and the water cleaned up.  I'm so glad not to have carpet when there's any kind of water leak.

DH has determined that he'll have to buy a new treadmill.  He's researching now but if anyone has any suggestions I'll pass them on.

I'm going to the shelter sometime today.  Probably about the time DH suggests we go treadmill shopping.  lol  I'd rather take a beating than go treadmill shopping.

Kind of shoots the outpouring of sympathy in the foot.

I got off work early yesterday, so I called the vet. Piper needed to be examined to renew her heartworm meds and she has a really rotten retching cough that was bothering me. I got an immediate appointment (holidays thin out the crowd), so we walked down. Wonder dog is down to 40 lbs, and really looks good, but her heart murmur is getting worse and may be causing enlargement of her heat, leading to the heart size increasing and putting pressure on her throat. She now gets a blood pressure med to reduce the work her heart has to do. So now, we both have heart murmurs, and take our bp meds together. Her ankles looked swollen. No signs of pain, just large. Hard to notice under her hair, or we would have driven to the vet. She has pills for the arthritis . I may have to use hers once in a while. Apparently, we are aging together.

While taking her temperature, the sheath that covers the probe slipped off and the vet had to go mining. Piper was not pleased-a very undignified procedure.

I gave Piper her pills this morning-a difficult project. Hold the pill in your hand and say "take it", and she takes her pills. So much better than pilling a cat.

Cool this morning. I may have to take the pup for her saunter to the park. Her arthritis doesn't seem to cause her pain, but she does take a while to get up. I can relate.

Oh, poor Piper and poor vet!! It sounds like with the new meds, she'll be feeling better in no time.

Jackie - sorry about the headache but glad some aspirin took care of it. No advice on a treadmill but I'd definitely be doing my homework. I have an old one at work and hate it. I'll be anxious to hear what he chooses but hope you don't have to be part of the shopping experience.

It's cooler this morning than we've had in ages and it feels great. I have the whole house fan running and had to put on a light sweatshirt :).

DH just left for work but not before we went through one more scramble to find his uniform pants and shirts. How they all ended up in the messy office is beyond me but I plan to get that room organized today.

Jackie glad the aspirin worked - you wild woman LOL

Piper Surprise Poor baby! Hoping she's feeling better once the meds kick in.

Just back from a HOT walk with Bugsy. I just couldn't do the 6 am thing this morning so we both suffered. I sweetened it though by taking him to his first love's house for some water and attention.

Its never too hot for hunting though so at one point I was taken to the edge of a natural area, for something very important Confused, I literally stopped about an inch from a hideous large spider that was eating its captured beetle. Eye to eye, trying not to move any closer while the hunter was pulling hard for whatever he smelled or saw. Shudders

Its very sauna like now and the mosquitoes are taking over the very wet universe, got a bunch of bites while walking,.

I vow to finish the front hedge removal and also to clean up all my flower beds today. I am working my way up to it by having a bit of coffee and watching the women's Wimbledon final.

Yes, I'm a wild woman. Party!!! One margarita and then staying up past 10 PM to clean up water mess.  LOL!

Doug, sending lots of vibes to your sweet old girl.

Karen, I hate to imagine what your mosquito population must be.  We've got our share but I bet it's nothing like yours.  Is West Nile in your area?  We deal with it every year here as it seems to be the new normal.

Cathy, so nice that you've got cooler temps today.  :)

Jackie I seem to remember someone making fun of my 1 drink headache ;p

I can just imagine the mosquitos you are getting Karen :(

There was a tough murder race here last weekend that a few of my friends ran in. 100 people came down with norovirus because of it. How awful is that?!

I'm having such a relaxing time camping. I was able to bring my bike for once because there's room in my trailer. I'm having so much more fun riding around on the bike than I ever did walking. The dogs are enjoying it too :) steaks and potatoes over the fire are on the agenda for tonight. Life is good :)

It's hot here and humid here--perfect for the mosquitoes. Yuck!  I am hoping for a quick freeze :-)  I played for about 5 minutes in the garden--that was enough for me! I just took Mozey for a very quick potty walk--it's just too hot. One of her favorite humans arrived for a visit, so she was a happy girl. Bugsy, do not take Mom near spiders!  Watched most of the Wimbledon men's doubles.

Jackie, I long ago gave up tequilla--but I do remember the effects! The leaking AC does not sound fun! No treadmill advice here/

Piper and Doug, I hope the BP meds help quickly. I have such a soft spot for springers. I am jealous of your cool weather!

Not much here today.. Gotta work tonight. Made some phone calls to the vets office to set up appointments for Maze.. next one is for the 17th.. I want this lump gone by the end of August at the latest.. So every paycheck, we do another procedure. LOL. Seems to be working...

    Fairly warm out today....

Our friend is here this weekend - he used to live here but now lives in Florida.  We're having spectacular weather at the moment:  sunny, breezy, low 70's.  Our friend hates Florida (he's there due to a job) and was saying how awesome it was to walk at the farmer's market today without melting or sweating to death.  And when we sat outside on the patio last night, not a single mosquito in sight.  When I'm ready to jump off a cliff during the months of gloom we have here, I try to remember the 10 or so weeks of humidity-free and bug-free weather in the summer.  It almost makes up for it.

Our farmer's market here is so nice -- tons of gorgeous flowers, veggies and fruits of all kinds, crafts, etc. -- and of course the food vendors.  This year someone has a mobile wood-fired pizza oven.  So we just had to try a pizza.  It was delicious!

There are always a TON of dogs at the market, and you never hear a growl or bark or scuffle.  Today we saw a Great Dane and a Tibetan Mastiff, along with the usual menagerie of cute furry faces.  It makes me feel bad we can't enjoy it with Ruby.  We tried to bring her once but had to leave.  She gets so worked up seeing all the people and dogs.  Between her leash pulling and chortling, she scares everyone, so we leave her home.  :-(

Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday, despite the heat, humidity, and/or bugs!

Oh, you're right I was teasing you about that one drink headache, wasn't I?  Well, all I'll say is Texas margaritas are sometimes Texas sized.  lol

Enjoy!  Sounds like so much fun.

Tracy, your farmers market sounds like ours and we've got lots of dogs at ours every time too.  I can't say they're all well behaved though. Some are snarky with other dogs and some are just excited to see all the people, kids and other dogs. It's a very stimulating environment. Personally I prefer to enjoy the market without worrying about a dog.  Except Twister, of course, because I could just scoop him up if needed. lol The wood fired pizza vendor is sure to be a big hit.  Yumm!  Now I want one.

Exactly why I REFUSE to do those types of races...someone DIED (literally, drowned) on some obstacle where you had to jump off a platform into a pit of water at one a few months back. I'll stick to 'regular' running, thanks.

SERIOUSLY. Some of these departments could cut their budgets down if they stopped buying their people so many dang clothes! Hubs agency recently changed names, so guess what?! All new uniforms, yay! They also changed the color of the law enforcement officer shirts (which are that 'wicking' technical fabric) from tan to white. Since they're that weird fabric, I can't bleach them...the first day on the line and hubs got rust on his. I'm going with washing in hot and line-drying to try to keep them from getting totally pit-stained.

     Wow look who's here!!!

I'm rarely uncomfortable in Florida, but I don't TRY to do outside stuff.  But this year it is SO freaking humid that the air conditioner just can't keep up with it.

David just put a new bulb in the bug zapper -- Luna is SOOOOOOOO not going to be happy!! LOL

Whew! Well we did it. All the shrubs, stumps, dead flowers (drowned) are gone. Lawn mowed. Remaining shrubs trimmed and all debris gone. Laundry done. Food shopping done.

Martini, shrimp scampi and a NZ Chardonnay followed by Ben and Jerry's Peach cobbler ice cream to finish.

While we were out working our friends with the Airedales were walking by so they brought the dogs up and B was soooo happy.

It will be an early night for all here.

Tracy that sounds like fun. I know it's hard with Ruby but I bet the more she did it the better she'd get. Although I also understand Jackie's point about NOT wanting the hassle. I love taking B places but he is always excited which for him means pulling which for me equals pain. Lol

I was wearing long sleeves, long pants, long socks and boots while gardening in 100% humidity and 90+ heat. And I still had a tick attached to my thigh!!! I would love to spray or treat the yard but I hate doing that from the environmental standpoint. As for West Nile we have it here but it hasn't been too bad the last few years. That may change with the current situation. I can say I was using an Ex-Officio bandana around my neck that claims to repel bugs and I got no bites.... Other than the tick on my leg. I guess it works because I had a bunch of bites from our walk.

Ugh!!!  Another plus of the warm season here:  no ticks.  If forced to deal with one or the other, I think I'd rather have mosquitoes.  I know West Nile is bad stuff, and mosquito bites are horribly itchy, but the "Ick Factor" of ticks trumps all that!

Karen, I think you're right about Ruby getting better if she went to the market more often, especially if we kept our visits short until she got used to them.  But Jackie's point is DH's reason for leaving her home.  Since he's the one who has to hold her leash, it basically ruins his enjoyment of the market since he has to be on alert 110% for dogs on retractable leads, little toddlers who come running up to dogs, etc.

Neighbors across the street must be out of town for the long holiday and left their cat outdoors.  Yesterday and today I've heard it meowing so loudly on their front porch.  I don't see any dishes/bowls out there, but maybe there are some in the back of the house.  I don't know these people at all, so I don't know what their usual arrangements are for the cat.  I tried to go up the driveway to check on it, but he started to run away.  Thankfully it's not super hot -- but I'm wondering if I should get some food and put it out on their driveway.  He sounds so forlorn!
