    harness

What harness brand do you like? Sadie is about 30 lbs. now at 6 months. I'm not sure how big she'll be, but she's growing out of her current harness. I have the Puppia soft harness. It seems most comfortable, and I really like it. However, she got out of it twice when she got really spooked. I'm not sure if it was on tight enough, or she was just that determined. Plus, I don't know if the larger sizes are more substantial as far as thickness, etc. I would think they would need to be. I like this one, but I'm not sire if this brand will be good as she grows.

My personal favorite is Premier's SureFit.  It's a tracking style, and is adjustable in five places.  Plus, there is a ring on the front of the chest.  I've clipped a leash to that ring for more control when Caleb was a puppy, and for balance when Mick was old (even slight pressure when the leash was clipped to the back ring would cause him to topple over).  And, if you want to use it as a car harness, there is also a ring on the bottom (I prefer that to clipping a car strap to the back ring so dog isn't pulled over backwards in case of a crash).  I bought a Puppia to use for Nosework and HATE it!  Caleb did almost get out of it a couple of times (Thankfully he doesn't panic or run off).  I recently bought a second SureFit to keep in our NW bag (actually 3rd since I still have Mick's).

My Tasha is a puppy mill rescue.  So when she arrived here 3 years back, she was easily frightened, and would take off.  I can't tell you how many different styles of harness I tried, to keep her safe.

She never has escaped from the Rope N Go:

I highly recommend this one for escapers.

Now I've had her for some time, and she has adjusted and changed a LOT, I've also got the Walkeez from Clean Run for her.  Had it a year before she started to escape from it.  I think the buckles have loosened up, I can't get it to remain in the proper fit.  But for one year, it was great -- AFTER she had calmed down alot.

Those which clip the leash in the front are good to teach / prevent pulling, but to me, pulling is different from backing out in a terrified 'fight or flight' maneuver.

Her first escape was at a parade as a band with drums went by, in the 2nd I was trying to multi-task and water my garden with the hose which she didn't like. Of course she could always escape again, but those are probably 2 unfair circumstances to judge her by. No more parades, and no more watering with her at my side. :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look them up.

My holistic vet (who also does chiropractic) LOVES the Puppia so I bought them for everyone.  They can ditch those in a heartbeat!!  The pug ditched hers twice the first time I put it on her (and I had the store help me fit it.

My all time favorite is the Sporn.  It is impossible for them to get out of it if you have it on properly.  There are two styles -- the newer one has a mesh insert at the front - it's easier to put on, and it seems to hold them securely.

The older style one is actually just a collar - but there are straps that hook to the back of the collar, come down under the front legs and then attach to the bottom of the front of the collar.  At the top of the back of the collar the strap has an o-ring and you just pull it up thru the little spring-loaded "lock" until it's tight.  They are NOT getting out of that unless for some reason the collar is defective and fails to latch (and I had one I had to replace -- it was a faulty clasp on the collar).

The strap that tightens under the front legs "breaks" the ability to successfully pull.  It works darned well -- Luna is a bad puller -- she doesn't with David but she does with me (and   it's impossible for me to 'stand' long enough to train her out of that).  But I can walk her on the Sporn.

I like the mesh one for Tink -- I don't have to adjust it as tight and I like how it fits her.  She's difficult to fit because as a pug the head is **big** so it is hard to adjust around that.

I don't use a harness for any of my dogs regularly. I know some people use the walk-eez for flyball, but they look very easy to slip (and they generally do not use them for walking, just to catching the dog).

Luke has the Comfortflex sport, but just for flyball. I have used it to walk, and he has never slipped it. It doesn't seem easy to slip, but he doesn't really try to back out of his harness.

I had the older style sporn, not with the mesh, previously. Maybe it was because it was on a doberman, but it didn't sit right on her. How about an ez-walk?
