    Monday chat

Morning! Cooling vibes for all of you that are melting this week. Your lows are our highs. I can't believe that entire fire crew was killed. How tragic. I wonder what happened. Today is meeting hell day at work. Not really looking forward to it. I was so tempted to call in late today. I could have slept another 3 or 4 hours.

The deaths of that fire crew is just horrible.  Crying

We're cooler today and the rest of this week.  Low to mid 90's and the humidity isn't too bad.

Why am I the only one here at work so far?  This doesn't bode well.

Man  . . . . . what happened to those firefighters is just tragic.

For something different (not)  . . . another hazy, hot and humid day.

Jackie  . . . . thanks a lot.  I am SO TOTALLY jonesing for fried chicken.

I was stunned to hear of the fire crew - and yes I would like to know what happened. I did read its the largest loss since 9/11 which confirmed my thought that is seems so unusual for an entire crew to die. So horrible for their families and colleagues.

Meanwhile we just can't stop the storms and HEAVY rains. Some areas got another 5 inches yesterday Indifferent We 'only' got 2.5 yesterday but its already rained heavily (<=understatement) this morning and we are expecting up to 4 inches today and another 4-5 by the end of Wednesday. Loads of flooding now. As tired as I am of this I can't imagine being displaced from my flooded home and seeing the radar and water from the sky still falling.

Speaking of that my brother and family still can't move in to their home and their neighborhood is still pretty much decimated. There are all sorts of shenanigans with the funds that were to be provided. For instance my brother was assessed for the claim in December, all was approved but there hasn't been a payout yet. Super Angry He isn't alone many of the folks on LI haven't been paid so how can they repair their homes. My mom said my brother has used every penny but now has to wait for the check.

Meanwhile his wife has to have a PET scan today to see if cancer has returned to her neck. Have a few good thoughts for them if you will.

Karen - I'm sorry your brother is still dealing with the mess from Sandy. Good thoughts for him and his wife.

Yikes you've gotten a ton of rain. I can't even imagine getting 2.5 inches in one day.

Very sad about the firefighters and I too will be anxious to hear what went wrong.

I opened some doors and windows when I got up at 5:30 and turned on the whole house fan. It's about 66 right now, so it feels really good. It won't last long though. I did spend about an hour outside around 8 last night pulling weeds and it wasn't too bad. Felt good to be outside for a bit.

I need to go grocery shopping and I want to do that early and then I need to do some cleaning. The floors are filthy from all the foot traffic during the move.

The rain is wearing all of us down...the only advantage is not having to water the flowers or lawn!

I am tired just thinking about my MIL's 2 week visit on Friday.  That means my kids and grandkids will be here much of the time also.  She is sweet, but at 90 yrs old she is getting frail and can't do much.  I've tried to get some things in the freezer, but I really don't feel very organized.  Guess I'll have to wing it and hope my bad back cooperates with me!  Lunches are especially hard to come up with.

And Charlie sez "water falling from the sky is just .... plain .... evil.... MAKE IT STOP please!!"

What a horrible shame about those firefighters -- how unbelievably sad.

Good thots & prayers for your SIL Karen.

I actually DID order a small "foot pedal" trash can for the bathroom to have somewhere "secure" to keep my purse in the bathroom near where I need it while I get ready -- Operation "Foil the Pug Thief"  enters Phase II.  (*rolling eyes*)

It's Canada day and the parade is getting set up down the street. I'm thinking of taking my client to the park for the activities but we'll see....

And Dodger is fansinated with my typing.. And he won't get his fat head out of the way!!!!!

    • Gold Top Dog

Maybe Dodger thinks you need an administrative assistant!

I saw the story of the deaths of the firefighters this morning -- what a horrible tragedy.  I think they said there was one crew member who survived.  I can't imagine how he'll deal with that, not to mention all the affected families who lost fathers/Dads, etc.

Marty, I hope your visit with your MIL goes well.  I'd suggest going to Trader Joe's to get some of their frozen or prepared meals for lunches (or dinners).  Their pulled pork/chicken/beef make nice sandwiches, and DH loves the frozen Indian dishes.  Also, I like the pot stickers and won-tons.  That can be a fairly easy lunch with some dipping sauce.  I know they're not very healthy meals, but at 90, I'm guessing she's not worried about that too much!

Karen, I can't believe how frustrating things must be for your brother.  And to think there are a ton of families dealing with the same issues, after all this time.  I hope things improve soon for them --- and I hope there's good news for his wife.

My 30th high school reunion was this weekend (in CT - I didn't go).  A friend sent some pics from Friday evening's gathering.  I recognized everyone, but some people sure look different (some have aged better than others).  My best friend was supposed to go to a dinner on Saturday night, and I knew she'd have a detailed report for me.  But her husband had to have an emergency appendectomy the day before, so she didn't go.  Another mutual friend went, so she gave us some info, and more photos to come.  It's fun to see the pics, but I've never attended a reunion.  Not sure I would, even if I lived closer.

Stay cool (or dry) everyone -- depending on your location!

Really sad about the firefighters.  The last news report I heard said something about the wind changing suddenly and blowing the fire right over them.  I'm so not looking forward to the heat (108) we're supposed to be getting in the next few days or the humidity caused by a lot of thunder storms in the Sierras. Sad

I wound up in the ER Wednesday night, and got a hip replacement on Friday - came home Sunday.  Recovery time for a replacement is much shorter than for a repair (involving screws) but I still don't think I'll get in much gym time in July. Fortunately, unless DS #1 raided it, the fridge is well stocked with chocolate wine and Amusant sparkling moscatto. Big Smile

Oh my gosh, Joyce!  Wow.  That's quite the tale.  I hope you are feeling and recovering well.

My Dad was a firefighter so I heard a lot of stories growing up about what a brutal monster fire can be and how quickly conditions can go from safe to deadly.  My heart just aches for the families of all the firefighters lost.

Karen prayers and healthy thots for your SIL and many prayers that they are able to return to their home very soon.

Joyce holy cow! Good recovery and lots of chocolate vibes!

I got a flat tire riding my bike to work this morning. Right after this thought went thru my head "dang, I forgot to put my bike tools back in my backpack." then blam! Flat tire. I had to walk a mile back to my house (could have been worse), then I changed inner tube only to find out the new inner tube also had a leak. I finally threw in the towel and took a shower and drove to work. Then I realized I forgot my key card at my house. Great Monday.

Happy Canada Day to any Canadians on the board.

Such a tragedy about those firefighters....so, so sad.

Sorry about your brother and his wife Karen. Sending good thoughts from Central NY that they will be able to return to their home soon and all will get settled and that all turns out well for his wife.

Wow Joyce. Sounds like things went well for you anyway. Sending quick healing vibes your way.

Had an agility trial again this past weekend and got one of the qualifications I need for Nationals...one of the biggies, so happy with that. I still need a couple more. Not far from where we were the weekend before, they had some major flooding. Just can't imagine how awful that must be for the people. A huge part of the town looked to have about 3 to 5 feet of water. So sad for everyone. We had a very steady rain this past weekend, on the first day of the trial. Not so fun running agility in the wet. Feel sorry for the judge who has to stand out in it the whole time. It did finally clear for the afternoon and then yesterday it was a nice day...a bit hot and humid but we tried not to complain. Us humans are never happy are we? Our last run of the weekend, a jumpers course,  Corey and I got a qualifying round and came in first. This is just under the regular courses and not part of the tournament courses for Nationals. As usual though, qualifying rounds or not, Corey entertained everyone Big Smile. No trials this weekend. I'm trialed out for a bit.

Wow Joyce - you had quite the week. I hope you're not having too much pain or trouble getting around. DH's friend, also a firefighter, had a hip replacement about 2 yrs ago and really did well. His wasn't an emergency though, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference in the recovery. I'm not too far away, so if there's anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Julie - I saw your post on FB and felt awful for you. The week has to get better from here on.

I did some more organizing, went grocery shopping and then cleaned all the floors. They were nasty from all the traffic with the move and look amazing now. I want to just veg out and watch tv but I still have more to do and I also want to cook up some stuff for dinner for the next few nights. We've eaten a months worth of fast food in the last few days.

    • Gold Top Dog

Goodness, Joyce, hope your recovery is speedy!

So I pulled out my steamer to wash some floors, and the thing wouldn't steam.  I know it was because I hadn't used distilled water in it, so I went out to get a Swiffer instead and did a few errands long as I was out.  By the time I got back, I had lost the desire to clean floors.  Maybe tomorrow...

No Trader Joe's within 2 hrs of here, so Publix will have to do.  Maybe I'll get a slew of Boar's Head lunch meats and try to get original with that.  Not healthy either, but nothing seems to be these days!
