    Saturday AM

The 5:30 dog alarm went off-about 1 yip per minute. Amazingly disturbing, especially on Sat morn. The heat broke a bit. Thursday was interesting. High heat, high humidity, and full sun shine. Kind of like getting hit with a hot club. I had a service call out on the prairie. A beautiful drive, with everything green and lush. Then, forgetting I had been in air conditioning, I got out of the truck. My shirt and shorts were drenched with my sweat almost immediately, and a little nausea crept in. Then, back in the truck for another hour to cool down. Then, three hours of work in a boiler room re plumbing a pump that had run dry overnight and melted PVC pipes, among other things. The access door was open to let cool air in -the cool air was 94ºF. Some people pay good money to enjoy steam rooms. It is a fringe benefit for me.

Back to the prairie Friday. Saw a small doe with a really small fawn. They stopped on the dirt road I was driving, and I stopped to watch. About the time I got my window down and my cell into camera mode, all you could see was the white flag from the doe and a really small white flag from the fawn heading across the field. MN in the spring is beautiful. Summers, beautiful but hot.

With all the pot holes flooded this year, the geese and ducks look to have some large broods running arounds.

Had to shorten up Pipers walks. She never has dealt well with heat. She is eager to start, but is really dragging on the home stretch. And as a sign of age, where she used to run and chase birds or squirrels, now, after a little sniffing, she just falls in at heel and looks. She enjoys the walk, but more as an observer. Now we just saunter along. Of course, as I am getting older, I have slowed down and enjoy sauntering more than power walking, so it works out.

I was at the barber (not a hair stylist-an old time barber shop for men only) and noticed that with my head of white hair growing long, and my habit of wearing a hat, my long white hair had a nice flip. I looked like one of the founding fathers wearing a powdered wig. Very picturesque, but now cut much shorter.

Anyway, soon as the rain stops, time for a walk.

I pay good money to enjoy a sauna! A dry one though, not a steamy one. We have enough steaminess going on outside. I want desert heat! Sounds like you had a rough day though!

I tossed and turned all night dreaming about all the work I did last week, geez. It's haunting me in my sleep!

I have to figure out when and how to get the blower fixed on my car. I think it is an easy fix but probably not something I can do. Maybe there's a video on youtube.

I need to do all my laundry from the last 2 weeks and unload my trailer from my camping trip last weekend. I can't wait to go camping again!

Cathy, congrats on being all moved into your new house! I'm so excited for you! When's the idog house warming party? :)

Another storm last night gave us another 2+ inches of rain (according to the neighbor's rain gauge) It seemed to be over about 10pm but then about 11 the rolling thunder started, I looked at the radar and it was full of yellow, orange and red.............from here to Charlotte!!!! That's like a couple of hundred miles. Anyway it was a doozey and kept going well past 2 am. I felt bad because there was tons of lightning and B was just fixated on watching the windows - which are covered but you can see the flashes anyway. It is SO wet out, the air the ground, the plants, everything. We have at least a 50% chance of storms everyday on the 10 day forecast. I really can't understand why this is like this for two whole months now - is it el Nina or something?

We are going to a friends for a meal tonight - I admit I'll be worried about B alone if a big storm hits. The daily storm thing clearly builds his stress, early this week he slept through a storm like the old days but each night its worse. Crying These people have 3 unruly Airedales, I hope they have some inside manners

I have chores to do and I hope to take a nap. It is way too wet to do any yardwork even though it needs to be done. I'll have to do it tomorrow

Congrats Cathy!! Shane I know its new but soon enough you'll make it home again :)

As soon as the pool replaster job is over, we can have a big party here. That should be done in the next few weeks and you'll still be able to enjoy the dry sauna affect for many months here :)

I heard a squirrel talking away in the tree when I let Shane out back this morning. The squirrels only scurried through the backyard at the old house but I have a feeling it'll take awhile for them to give up their habitat here. Fortunately, Shane doesn't know that sound very well, so he didn't go nutso.

I finally slept well last night because I wasn't panicked by all we needed to get done. We really underestimated the amount we needed to do yesterday but we got it done. DH has left for a bike ride. We're now close enough that he can ride his bike the short distance to the bike trail vs. having to drive there and back. I think I already feel a nap coming on :)

It's a little past noon here and weather bug says 102.  Yep, it's hot enough for me.  We were going to hit the farmer's market early but when we walked outside to get in the truck we saw a fire hydrant blowing water full blast and a water utility guy sitting in his truck watching.  When asked he said he was clearing the lines due to reports of yellow water.  Tongue Tied We went back inside and sure enough the water was a lovely shade of pale yellow.  DH went around warning all the neighbors. lol  He's kind of a sky is falling type sometimes.  The water guy said the water would be fine when he finished and to let our water run inside for a few minutes to flush out the lines.  We have a reverse osmosis water purifier in the kitchen for cooking and drinking water so I'm not too worried.

By the time we got to the market it was already hot except in the shade.  We got some nice melons and a few other things and headed home.

I'm helping at an adoption event later.  It's between 4 PM and 8PM and will be outdoors.  I'm taking an ice chest with lots of water.  I can't imagine anyone wanting to linger outside to meet the dogs but maybe some will.

I ran a 5k this morning; the same one I ran last year. I improved my time even though I thought I was going to do worse! I was in much better shape last year and I had more time to dedicate to training. So while I was only slightly higher than mid-pack for my age, I am happy with my time.

Well done, Janice!  Just thinking about running a 5K exhausts me, so I really admire people who can do such things.  I can't imagine doing a long marathon.  Yikes.

Jackie, I hope none of the people OR animals at the event you're going to get over-heated.  We've got unusually high temps here, but they're nothing like what many of you are dealing with.  It could hit 100 by Wednesday.  It's already so dry here -- now there'll be more worry about fires that fireworks may cause (people light them off everywhere here - not just organized displays).

Karen, maybe you can turn a radio on extra loud and run a fan or something to help drown out any thunder tonight while you're gone?

From last night:  that story about the goldfish crackers and potty training is one of my all-time favorites from this forum.  It was a woman who often had hilarious stories about her kids.  I think her user name was Jules, maybe??  She put the goldfish in the toilet to use as "targets" for her little boy to aim at when he was potty-training.  As I recall, she left the bathroom to get him his "prize" (a sticker or something), and when she came back, the toilet was empty.  She asked her son where the goldfish went, and he opened up his mouth to show her them in mid-chew.  I can't count how many times I've re-told that story.  It cracks me up!

She had several really funny stories -- one involved her toddler grabbing her male dog's privates incessantly and the dog plastering the kid with a happy tongue bath at the same time, both of them seeming to have a grand time.  The kicker was something about her very reserved mother pouring herself a strong drink after witnessing it.  I'm 99% sure she told that story -- someone on here did.

Not going to accomplish much today.  Took an early walk (but still too hot), filled Ruby's pool, and I may just sit in the shade and read for a good part of the afternoon.  Doug, I'm right up there with you and Piper -- a casual stroll is far more appealing as I've gotten older!

I recently spoke to the shelter gal and she's canceling the adoption event.  Just too hot and it was being held outside.  I think that was a good decision.  It was just going to be the two of us and eight dogs.  We're supposed to get some cooler temps this coming week so she'll reschedule.

We're not getting much done here either.  Just too damn hot.  The birds are swarming every water source in our yard trying to cool off.

Jackie - it's hot as Hades here as well and soooo frigging humid.  Can we make fast laws that you have to have a brain to buy fireworks??  ugh

When I went to my hair appt (anyone want to wave at Wally??? LOL) there was a BAD wreck -- the 10 minutes it usually takes to get there took 50 minutes.  I usually go WAY early, stop and get something either cold or hot to drink and use it as a little chill out time.  Not today.  Good thing I'm the patient type.

Luna sez forget making laws about fireworks -- she just wants one that says she gets to grab the offenders and keep them away from any more noisey things!  Please?

Yes!! that was the story I was thinking of and I'd forgotten about Jules. Thanks for remember Tracy!!

We got the master bdrm set up (yay!!!) and hung a sheet on the window. It's not a bad look ;)

Jackie - based on the temps here, I can't imagine doing an adoption event outdoors. Not fun for the humans or the animals. We're currently very close to 110 degrees. I was already wondering what our electric bill would be like with a house more than 1/3 larger than our former home but with these temps, I may need to work overtime.
