Finally Friday chat

    Finally Friday chat

Oh yes!!  It is FRIDAY!  And, at this point I don't think I need to do a single thing for work so that's always a bonus.

From yesterday, yes, I absolutely have some authority in hiring.  I've been "sitting in" (read, conducting them) on interviews for quite some time now and the boss listens to me.  But, as far as the PITA goes, he is very loyal to employees.  He wants her to quit and retain some dignity and not have to fire her.  He also always tries to treat others as he would want to be treated.  I have to respect his wishes in this.  I honestly don't care if she stays, BUT she needs to sell, she needs to loose the attitude and keep her unpleasant cracks to herself.  But, the biggie is she has to SELL!!

As far as a raise goes, I suspect the paycheck this week might be a bit fatter.  And, if not, he'll take care of me when we get the paper to profitability.  Right now his trust fund is still keeping us afloat.  And, no matter the wealth, it sure isn't unreasonable to expect a return on investment, so I can wait if need be.

So glad, Callie, to see that the pups are ok.  And, I think I forgot everything else I was going to say!

    Have a good one all!

Thanks for the get well wishes yesterday. I have an upper respiratory infection as well as conjunctivitis in both eyes. Fortunately the antibiotic pills and eye drops are doing their job and I'm feeling a lot better today.

Deb, how are you doing post dental extractions?

     Happy Friday!

I actually have to weekend off to go to a flyball tournament.

We're going in a bit and taking my niece to a movie. We're going to see Monsters U. She's never been to a movie before, or actually, never that she knows of. She went to the Lion King for a bit when she was a baby. Then she ended up being delivered to me to walk the mall with my friend's son because she wasn't sleeping through it. I didn't go because it was in 3-D, and I didn't think I could watch without getting sick.

    Glad your feeling better, Tina.

Pretty good with the exception that I can't use a straw to drink my Vodka and peach iced-tea.  I have to guzzle straight from the glass.  Poor me.

Years ago -- in fact the first legal secretary job I ever took on -- I had NO legal background but I went to work for a guy going thru some huge marital and business problems. So I struck a deal with him and I worked for slightly above minimum wage (hourly) PLUS a 'bonus' at the end of each month for a percentage of what he bills above and beyond the pittance he'd been billing. He figured if I helped him bill more he could pay the bonus because HE would be making more.

I worked that and worked it hard. *I* learned how to be a legal assistant and I got his billable hours way up (he had work -- he just wasn't getting it DONE so he *could* bill it). If the extra money doesn't materialize maybe you would work a deal

I'm glad it's Friday -- dang, I because everything was so up in the air I didn't make my hair appt when I was at Wally's last month -- I'm glad I called today. At least I only have to put up with grey roots for another week! *crossing eyes*.

Jackie - I'm super sorry the Spurs didn't win last night but it was a great game and series. I hope your DH wasn't too disappointed. Also sad to read about the owner surrender. Hopefully Sassy is now getting the care she needs. I understand that elderly folks may not be able to care of a pet like they should but I can't help but wonder how no one else noticed and offered to help.

Tina and Deb - glad you're both on the mend.

Today is another big moving day. DH has a friend to help, so we'll get some large items moved. His sister and husband are also helping on Sunday, so I hope we'll be mostly out of here after that. We won't have internet at the new house until Thurs., so DH will probably want to stay here until then but by Friday, we need our stuff out so the carpets can be cleaned. There have been pros and cons to moving at this slow pace but I'm starting to get antsy about it being over with.

Good luck with all the moving efforts today, Cathy.  Is the SIL coming to help on Sunday the one who was snarky at your BBQ?  Hope she keeps her mouth relatively still and uses her other muscles during the moving process!

Tina, glad you're feeling better.  It's amazing how a couple doses of antibiotics can really kick the recovery process off!

Glenda, sounds like your boss has some sensitivity, which is nice.  Hopefully the problem staff member toes the line and your headaches are minimal with her.

In the category of "it doesn't take much to please me" -- some stools that I ordered for the kitchen eating bar/counter arrived yesterday.  We've had 2 unmatched pairs of stools for years -- one set dark wood, one set dark metal, and all rather beat up looking.  I was tired of the dark colors, so I'd been hunting for something a bit more interesting.  There are lots of funky, cool styles in shiny chrome or super bright plastics, etc. -- but the rest of our decor in the area (it's an open great room/kitchen/dining area) would not work with something so modern.  I finally found some on the West Elm website that were tomato red metal bottoms with pine colored seats -- a little modern, but with a casual feel.  They were on clearance and much cheaper than other stools I considered.  They look nice -- the pop of red brightens things up.

Ruby's final agility class today (only 4 weeks - just an intro).  It's gone better than I expected.  She won't sit still/quiet waiting her turn to run the course, but she does quite well when it's time to run over or through everything.  If only they'd let us just run it continually without having to wait  in between!  Stick out tongue

Yay for a good find Tracy. I like the West Elm site. The SIL that will be helping on Sunday is the nice/mature one and she's a work horse. She and her husband have helped us with a lot of home improvement projects and we're usually the ones to cry "uncle" first :).

DH's friend told him yesterday that he wanted to start moving early to beat the heat. When DH saw him in the gym early this morning, he said he had to take his daughter's car to get smogged and wouldn't be ready until 10. DH ended up loading everything himself and told his friend nevermind when he finally called. I'd say he's moved the vast majority of our stuff all by himself so far but it worries me that he goes beyond what's reasonable and tries to do too much.

We had a really wonderful surprise waiting at our front door. Deb had sent a package with doggie treats for Shane and some really pretty magnets for me. Thanks for always being so thoughtful Deb!!

I never use a staw. The drink at the top of the glass is always colder and it assures you the ice won't dilute the drink at the bottom. You win, Deb!

They just said on the news that we could  be looking at anywhere from 1/2" to 1" of rain between Sunday and Monday.  Really unusual for this time of year, but really welcome since Saturday is supposed to be especially hot. Apparently there's some big weather system inching its way down from Canada or Alaska.Big Smile

They also said something about whether or not James Gandolfini's last huge "binge" meal is what killed him.  I think of one binge meal could kill you, we'd all be dead. It was most likely a lifetime of eating that way that finished him off so early. Still, it sounded like a really good meal ... a couple of beers, much rum and a double order of giant fried prawns with fois gras (sp.) I think I might have traded in the fois gras for a third order of the prawns. Big Smile

Joyce if it's the rain from us, watch out! Major flooding in Alberta and it's still raining.. I've got family in the evacuated towns but thankfully everyone's house is out of the flood zones.
