    Sticky Tuesday chat

Bleck! super humid marshmallow air this morning

I slept poorly last night and Flo arrived this morning. At least that explains the lower back pain

Sure wish I knew what bit my elbow, still very itchy and the swelling is finally going down so I can see the actual bite

Busy day ahead, best get moving

    Tracy that card is hysterical!!

After plenty more rain yesterday evening, it is cool and comfy here.

I joined a CSA (community supported agriculture) this year and my first pickup is tonight. The list for this week has a few items I've never tried to cook, so it'll be interesting. With working two jobs, I just can't get to our farmer's market very easily because of opposing schedules, and I don't garden much besides tomatoes and basil, so I thought I'd give this a try. I'll get 20 weeks worth of fruit and veggies, whatever is in season and available each week. The best part: I don't have to pull weeds. Big Smile

It's a sticky Tuesday here too.  Hope your itchy bite stops itching, Karen.

I have a whiskey barrel water garden with a few goldfish and some random plants.  Yesterday evening I saw some baby fish swimming around.  When I bought these Comet goldfish at one of the big box stores there were a few grayish brown minnow looking fish and a few got in the batch I bought.  These must be their offspring since the goldfish aren't near big enough to reproduce.  It was so exciting if you're a nerd like me.

In other backyard nature news I found one of my three surviving giant sunflowers stripped or all leaves by some little caterpillars. :(  I don't use insecticides if avoidable so I was shaking them off into a plastic bag.  Then the mosquitos found me and I could hardly stand to finish the caterpillar removal before making a break for the house.

edited to make a little sense

I'm starting to freak myself out over getting these teeth pulled later today.

I always wanted a whiskey barrel garden. Do your fish survive all winter? That's my problem :(

The farmer's market by me just started back up last week. I'm excited. I haven't been able to get by yet but hopefully this thurs on my way home from work I can

It was down right chilly riding in this morning. 55 degrees and windy with no sun. Brr. Have to remember to wear a long sleeve shirt when it's below 60 in the mornings.

I'm not sure how I'm going to make it through the next 1.5 weeks and it's stressing me out. Travel travel and more travel and it's going to cost me a fortune for a dog sitter. I have been paying her $15 a visit when she comes to walk them during the week. 3x per day for 5 days is going to add up fast. So annoyed that it is for a work trip that I have to spend this money too. Even if I ate pbj's the entire week, my per diem wouldn't cover it. It's the cost of working I guess.

Deb, don't freak out.  Dental stuff is usually never as bad as anticipated.  The reason many fear the dentist (I used to be in this group) is because the bad experiences get talked about much more because people seem to love to share their bad stuff more than the good or routine.  I've had root canals and extractions and wisdom teeth that had to be cut out and none were ever as bad as my "friends" told me it would be.  Sending you lots of calming vibes and a shot glass.  :)

Yes, if the fish are healthy going in to what we call winter.lol   I stop feeding them when the water reaches about 55 F.  They go sort of dormant but if you feed them they can die though I can't remember the exact reason it's something to do with them not being able to process protein in this state.  The cheap feeder fish often are so stressed they don't make the first few months but those that do are usually pretty hardy.  I buy more than the barrel can support because half usually die off.  I'd love to have a large,in ground water garden with koi and water lilies but my yard is small and my dogs are not going to stay out of something like that.

Julie, bummer about the extra expense of the dog sitter.  Dogs are expensive but I guess not as expensive as kids. :)

(((Deb))) I hope it all goes well. I've started to feel phobic about the dentist lately too, so I can truly empathize.

Tina - that's very cool about the community garden. I've thought about doing that too. I hope you get some yummy stuff.

Jackie - ewwwww about the mosquitoes. Next time have Charles standing by with the tennis racket :)

Julie - I'm sorry about the travel and extra costs. Do you drive your own car and get paid mileage? That can help offset it a bit. My dep. dir. travels a bunch too and hires a dog sitter when she's gone all day or overnight. I know it really adds up.

Our temps dropped overnight and it's cool and breezy this morning. It will warm up a few degrees each day and is forecast to be 97 on Sunday. That's the day that we have help for the final push on this move. Hopefully we can get going early and beat the worst of the heat.

Shane had the zoomies for a few minutes and then curled up and went to sleep. I've never seen a dog go from 50 to zero in a matter of seconds.

For me, my own fear and dislike comes from my own experiences, and I've had a myriad of work done. Sometimes it's not as bad as I anticipate; other times, it goes completely the opposite direction. Hoping for the best for you Deb.

Deb, sending you some calming vibes (less likely to spill than vodka en route from Oregon!).  Hope all goes well with the extractions.

Cathy, we often say Ruby has two speeds:  lightning speed and off.  She can be zoomie around the yard one minute, then sacked out on the grass the next.

Tina, I bet you'll enjoy the CSA baskets.  We can get them here, and though we've not done it, my friend has and she loves them.  It's a good way to try veggies you might not try otherwise.  And besides all the benefits you mentioned (no weeding - yay!), you're supporting a local grower!

The fish/pond stories remind me of something that happened in our old neighborhood.  I was walking by a neighbor's house with Tonka one day, and the woman came rushing down the driveway calling to me.  She said, "Tracy, we were robbed today!"  I was shocked and said, "Oh no!  What happened?"  She said, "I was at the kitchen window and saw a Great Blue Heron land in our yard, then he ate ALL our coy fish!"  It was all I could do not to laugh.  She nearly gave me a heart attack, and it turned out to be a fish "theft!"  Surprise

I just ate a microwavable s'more and it was delish.  I needed that hit of sugar.

    That's all I got.

Well, I'm pretty sure we all base our opinions on our personal experiences but sometimes the power of positive or negative thinking can make a big difference in how we cope or don't.  I was trying to give Deb some upbeat thoughts but the vodka is probably much more helpful. lol

Sharon, thanks. Now I want a s'more. :)  The power of influence at work. lol
