    Wet Saturday Chat

The rain is done here, but it is wet, and the local creek hasn't finished rising. We're in a flood warning still until 5. The roads were starting to flood on my way home from work last night, and given the weird way my gps took me out to flyball last night, some of the roads here were flooding. I've never gone via that route before.

Apparently, what it takes to make Callie sleep late, is pie. She swiped a pie last night (and shared with Pigeon). She slept until 7:45. Past 6 for her is often a challenge. Past 7, and nearly 8, that's a miracle.

I have so much work to do next week, and I have to meet with my junior high guidance counselor, among other meetings for Monday. I have to do an evaluation at my former junior high. I got sent a request for an evaluation on June 4th. He can't meet with me on Monday, which I need because it was one of the most poorly written requests I have ever seen. I need someone to clarify what this crap they wrote means. Also, school ends next Wednesday. Nothing happens at school on the last day, and possibly the last week. So, I have about  5 days to do this, unless this kid is going to summer school. I hope there is a good story as to why this was allowed to go on until June.

I thought we had finished with the rain but we had more storms overnight. Soggy Saturday here!

I was going to do some yard work but I am going to see if it will dry out a bit first.

I am being stared at to DO something, no it isn't hubby LOL Surprisingly it is Bugsy who seems raring to go Wink

That is about all I've got at this fairly early hour

I hope everyone dries out soon from all the rain.  We've got sunshine and mud here. :)  DH let the dogs out and back in this morning.  He neglected to consider the mud factor.  Once again, our choice to get tile has paid off.

Cathy, I hope you have a good time at the horse event.  I'm sorry the carpet in the new house is worse than you thought.  Hopefully a good cleaning and clever furniture placement will help.

Karen, I'm sure you've already been coerced into doing something that involves a big black dog and the outdoors. :) Oh Karen, did you want me to find you a nice GSP at the adoption event here?  Wink

Rex and I are heading out to the vet in a little while.  Just a follow up visit from a few weeks ago.  We're seeing the head vet this time.  The vet who saw him initially is nice but a bit of an airhead.

We'll go to the Texas Folklife festival today because tomorrow will be all about the Spurs vs the Heat. :)  DH will be consumed with reading every word on the game and watching every single sports show on TV that might mention the game.

We got right around 5 inches of rain here yesterday afternoon through early this morning, but now the sun is trying to shine! I think gardening will wait until tomorrow at the earliest, as I'm sure it's soggy!

I'm in cleaning mode this morning, and it's sorely needed. I'm going to make quiche for dinner. (I love the recipe from the original Moosewood cookbook. (It has mushrooms, onion, Gruyere cheese--it is not low fat, that's for sure!)

Back to cleaning! Hugs for all who need them.

We hit 104 yesterday and it's supposed to be 106 today - ugh!! I hope the buildings at the Horse Expo are air conditioned. I'm really looking forward to it and to having a distraction from the move for a bit.

Kate - that quiche sounds yummy but I love anything with Gruyere cheese in it.

Jackie - I'm really excited for the Spurs and your husband :)

Well since being hired, I haven't stopped really in a month. Lol! Considering I've been on call, its pretty amazing. On Monday I find out if I got accepted for a posting I want. I'm quite surprised that I can finally say that I love my job.

Yikes I could not handle 105!it is barely 73 here and I feel like I'm melting. The sun is super hot today even if the temps are pleasant.

Lots of stuff going on today outdoors which I love.

Julie, you could handle it if you didn't have any humidity along with it. If we had humidity on the west coast, you'd be scrapng us up off the sidewalk with a spatula. Our heat is like what you feel if you're sitting too close to a fireplace or an oven. Having said that, I had a breakfast meeting this morning and even though I knew it was going to be a very hot day, I just wasn't mentally prepared to walk out into 99 degree heat at 11:00 a.m. It's supposed to drop back to the mid 80s tomorrow, so we'll see ... mid 80s and "unsettled" which in my book means thunderstorms.  Maybe.

I remembered to put a chunk of dead animal in the slow cooker this morning before I left, but then I couldn't remember if I turned it on or not. When I could smell it coming back through the door, I figured it was up and running OK.

Believe it or not, we've got fantastic weather. Not a cloud in the sky, low 70's now -- maybe 80 later. We went to the farmer's market with SIL and BIL this AM. Tons of dogs there, including a 4 month old Tibetan Mastiff. She was so cute, it could have been illegal!! We got some fruit, asparagus, fava beans, and a boneless leg of lamb for dinner tomorrow. Not my favorite, but DH's family love it, so it'll be a special dinner for them.

Jen, maybe Callie just needs a late night snack -- even something other than pie (although that must have tasted really good compared to dog treats!

Amber, that's great you love your job -- good for you! Most people can't say that!

The kids next door are playing house in the yard. The fake crying and calling for DaD and MaMa is a bit annoying. I may go inside until they change games!

I think Callie usually eats pretty late at night, though my mom feeds her. I ended up taking her and Luke out to the park this morning. I only intended to take Callie, but Luke lined up at the door while I was cleaning my trunk up a bit, so he went too. At least while we walked, there was no butt explosion, and we walked an hour and half. Speaking of which, I need new keens. I wore other sandals because my old pair is failing apart. They started cutting my toe, so I took them off. Now my feet really kill. I don't get how people do barefoot running.

It was hot as heck and had there been humidity, I probably wouldn't be typing this. It was more of a furnace heat and the bldg was cool for the first couple of hours. I don't know if it was the crowds coming thru or the AC not being able to keep up but by the time I left at 2, it was pretty warm inside. I had a longish jaunt to get to my car and dreaded it but managed to make it back without going up in a puff of smoke. I actually hated to leave. It is such a great event and I met and talked to many wonderful people. I'd have loved to watch some of the exhibitions but there was no way I was going to sit outside in the full sun - ugh!!

Weather averages out. That is why we fortunate enough to live in Minnesota cry when it is sunny and mild. We know what is coming. Apparently, we will be in for a warm and dry winter. It could be worse. The crops are going in late, but are going in. My lawn is green (so are my feet), and the gardens are looking well, even after winter kill is considered. But I seem to live in my rain gear.

I made a run farther south and west than normal, into the land of big farms. About a mile between farmsteads, and a hugh wind farm. The farmer I was working with said there were 140 windmills in his township alone, and over 300 in the project. Big, and looming everywhere.
