    Every little girl's dream

Well, maybe not every girl, but all Mackenzie wanted for her 5th birthday was a Princess Belle makeover at Bippidi Boppidi Boutique in downtown Disney.  So we went on Saturday, as her graduation from pre-K was on her birthday (Monday).  Mimi thought she looked exquisite!

Oh down here that is **THE** gift of a lifetime. "Princesses" ... and you see them walking all over town here and there -- and sometimes, just to play along, I will say to David in a large stage whisper "Oh LOOK honey -- it's Princess BELLE!!!!!" It's a **VERY** common "wish" at Give Kids the World for a little girl to want "Lunch with the Princesses" and man they do it up in style for those girls. Can you imagine sitting down to lunch with Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Cinderella, Snow White, Princess Jasmine, Belle and ... oops, I forget but the Frog Prince's Princess. These folks stay in character all the time .. it is amazing. She looked SO cute -- she will remember that for the rest of her life!! Great Graduation pics!

So cute!!   Does she get to keep the princess dress and all the accessories?  How come they never had anything cool like that when I was a little kid?!  Actually, maybe they did -- but my mother would've said we couldn't afford it.  I was in my early 30's before I even went to Disneyland!

Her little tiara is so cute -- just like Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's."  Did she have a headache from her hair being pulled up like that?  If I wear a tight bun or pony-tail, my scalp hurts when I take it down at night!

And the little cap and gown is adorable, too.  What a special pair of celebrations!  Thanks for sharing the pics, Marty.  What nice memories for all of you!

I'd have been told the same but I really don't think there were things like this when we were children. If someone had a pinata for their birthday party, I thought I was living large ;) That looks like it was one heck of a special day for your granddaughter Marty. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Her Mom bought the dress and shoes ahead of time (a bit less expensive than buying one there at $65).  Then she wanted the wand also.  The makeover price included the tiara, jewels for her face, the eye shadow kit and 2 bottles of nail polish, all of which she could take home.  Yes, her head did hurt when they had to take it down to get her graduation cap to stay on.

    How adorable! Big Smile

I would have had to be held down and gagged to get me in something like that but for little girls who love dressing up, it looks like a fabulous experience!

It's amazing how much has changed since I was in school.  We didn't have any sort of graduation ceremony until high school.  Kicked to the next grade and that was that. lol   She looks so cute in her cap and gown photo.  What gorgeous curls.

In honesty this is Disney marketing at its best. (that's not a judgment - but I live here and see it ALL the time) NOTHING like this even existed until about 8-9 years ago to my recollection. When I was that age *raising eyebrow - in the Stone Age?* LOL -- when we played dress-up it was with someone's discarded Prom Gown that someone's grandmother bought at a "Rummage Sale" for a quarter!! My Grandmother had a friend who had no grandkids of her own and she used to send me 2-3 of those "for cheap" gowns a year. Never got my hair done, never got jewels on my face, but I thot I was hot stuff anyway LOL Disney has truly elevated "characters" to a huge level -- you see far far more characters on the property (even at Epcot and Animal Kingdom) than you used to. Disney tends never to just discard a "failure" -- they will re-work it and re-work it and re-work it forever and a day to tweak it until it's what they wanted. But in so doing -- some of those characters have been around more than 50 years! This is just ONE avenue of what they do -- the "pin collectibles" are another massive market -- Steph Hare has come down here for more than one pin convention (which is when David and I got to meet her) - and I know she's had a ton of fun. Not for "little kids" solely ...

You know, I think her parents and I had as much fun watching this unfold as Mackenzie did!  Even Dad, who said this wasn't his thing and would go elsewhere, stayed to see his little girl!  The place was really a zoo of little girls and families, but so much fun seeing their faces.  There were even older girls who chose more elaborate hair-do's with extensions and ringlets of curls.

But yikes, if I worked there I'd surely need a few of Deb's drinks when day was done!

I've no doubt that had I been a little girl in these days I would have turned myself inside out to get my folks to let me do that Disney dress-up thing!!

But then -- it's all too easy for me to "be a kid" -- even at *ahem* my age, I have Tinkerbell jibbitz on all my crocs, and I love the ones that blink! My excuse is that the kids at GKTW love them -- soooooo does that explain why I have them on all 8 pairs of Crocs I have, and ....

I can tell you -- I look at kids with those "roller" sneakers, and little kids with tennis shoes that "flash" when they run, and I always say to my husband "If I were a little kid now, I would DEFINITELY have one of those!" Growing up can be vastly over-rated. *wink*

I really didn't know they had that in downtown Disney. Just in the past year they have added " Twinkle Hope’s La Ti Da Royal Spa" which is enormously popular -- everything from makeovers to face-painting to temporary tattoos.

A little off topic, but Callie your post about bling on your shoes reminds me of something.  A woman where I worked years ago had these Keds sneakers that were all decked out with sparkles and glitter and bright, funky shoelaces.  She was probably in her late 50's, early 60's -- always dressed very stylishly.  The first time I saw her wearing those shoes (she wore them around Christmas time), I told her how fun they were.  She said, "Thank you.  They were a gift from my grand-dog."  I cracked up!

I don't remember being obsessed with princesses or other girly things when I was really little, but I definitely remember being SO excited when I got to wear a "fancy dress" as the flower girl in my cousin's wedding (I was about 8 or 9).  It was burgundy velvet (a December wedding), and I had a little basket of holly to carry.  My cousin was a hairdresser back then, so she styled my hair all fancy, too.  I was thrilled!

Those pics are adorable!  I can see my granddaughter (almost 3) wanting to do something like that.  She's totally into princesses and ballerinas (or "banoninas" as she calls them.  They definitely had nothing like that when I was a kid.  For dress up we used old blouses and nightgowns that our moms were ready to toss. Smile
