    Back to reality chat

Here we go. Is everyone ready to get back at it? I'm not sure I am. Might need another cup of coffee. I have a 3 hr drive ahead of me this morning, a meeting then a 3 hr drive back. It's going to be a long one. Must drink more coffee. Should have picked up the work car last night so I could leave from my house instead of having to go to the office first. Today was supposed to be pay day. Apparently someone forgot to tell the person who pushes the auto deposit button because pay day didn't come today. Hope they fix it quick. I have bills to pay! Someone stop the rain please

Haha... I never left reality. Well, I did have Sunday off. I'm actually leaving reality tomorrow night. I'm going to Williamsburg to Busch Gardens, and I think a ghost tour at night. Just for a day though, leaving Wednesday and coming back Friday. I do have Thursday and Friday off though.

Julie, I hate when I don't get paid!

Maybe I'm ready for reality and maybe I'm not.  Time will tell and another cup of coffee can't hurt.

Spurs swept the Grizzlies. :)  On to the Finals.

Had to come back to work to get a break from the weekend. Am having fun with allergy issues - itchy eyes and coughing due to sinus drainage. Someone please cut my head off and flush it out. Wink I've never had a problem on this level and it sucks.

    Go Spurs!!!

Tina - I'm sorry you're feeling so yucky. Are you able to take anything to help?

It'll be a busy day and a busy week too. Somehow I always manage to forget how busy this time of year is for me at work.

Hoping the nasty weather in the midwest doesn't cause too many problems.

Not really. I can't take antihistimines due to medication interaction, but I do use Similisan allergy eye drops, which help. Right now I'm keeping the makers of Kleenex and Ricola cough drops in business.Confused

Feel better Tina!  Not sure anyone is motivated to "go back to work" today!

I am now assured of one thing -- my wonderful husband will **never** quit his day job to become a plumber!  *rolling eyes* -- he has put off re-setting the toilet for WEEKS.  (and my "input" that repeated flooding ruins the floor and and and ... let's just say not kindly received!)

This is "stubborn Scotsman" at its best -- no, he will not let me call a plumber in because he's started it and WILL finish it (if it kills both of us??).  Let's just say I spent the WHOLE afternoon yesterday at the movies (literally I saw TWO) because our home only has one bath.

He's a wonderful man ... but boy is he a sucky plumber!  male pride?? Usually he doesn't ATTEMPT stuff like this.  (thank heavens)

This is definitely back to reality for me. Haven't been to work since last Monday with us being in Vegas last week. We got back Saturday afternoon so we were still able to enjoy the weekend. However, I still don't think I caught up on the whole jet lag thing.

Had a meeting at school for Riley's IEP (Individualized Education Plan). I got a change to meet with her new speech therapist at her new school for next year. So far she is on target and everything looks good. I don't think we are going to do formal speech therapy over the summer. The schedule was so irratic last year that it didn't seem worth it. They gave us some ideas of things to work on so that should be good.

I wish I would have won big in Vegas so I could be home sleeping right now.

I'm not going back to reality until tomorrow.  All of my bosses are gone this week, so I decided to take today off and make it a 4-day weekend.  Ruby doesn't know what's going on --- she hasn't had her normal weekday routine since last Thursday (DH was off on Friday).  Unfortunately, it's a cool, showery day, so we won't be relaxing out on the patio today.

Tina, I can sympathize with your allergy symptoms.  Everyone I know with allergies agrees this is one of the worst years we've had in a very long time.  I'm buying Kleenex boxes by the grocery cart load, and it's a miracle I have eyelashes left from all the eye-rubbing/scratching I'm doing.

Lisa, I'm sorry you didn't win big in Vegas, but I'm sure you still had a great time.  Just the dining is excellent there - regardless of gambling results!

Callie, your story of David's plumbing skills reminded me of a time when DH and his BIL were up until midnight trying to fix a toilet in our old house.  They made 2 or 3 trips to the store that evening -- never seeming to get the right tool or supply.  They called themselves the "Plumb Dummers."  They did get it fixed eventually, but what a fiasco!  I think your movie escape was wise.  What did you see?

I think your movie escape was wise.  What did you see?

I am just not a girl to be denied a potty easily!  LOL and Davey knows it!!  LOL

I saw Start Trek (loved it -- on many levels.  Seeing Spock totally lose it and "get mad" was an all time screen highlight.  And getting to see Dr. McCoy (who always used to get to say "He's dead, Jim" at least once every episode??) -- he's running blood tests on a furry thing and Kirk walks by and says "Are you playing with a Tribble Bones?" and McCoy replies "The Tribble's dead, Jim" --

    The whole theater cracked up!

Then I saw Epic -- good one to take the kids to.  But to be honest - it was worth it for me just to see the pug character "Ozzy".  (why is that SUCH a popular pug name??  *rolling eyes*).

The guy who wrote the book was also the filmmaker -- but this guy "gets" pugs.  This pug was a tripod dog *and* blind in one eye.  I loved it for that alone.  In fact, pretty much every character in this was flawed -- but  done well for that.

But Ozzy was still heading everywhere on a dead run, then he'd try a corner too fast and wipe out onto his side (I've seen THAT a million times) -- & of course he had to kiss everything into sloppy oblivion ... it was  honestly one of THE best cartoon renditions of a breed I've ever seen.

It honestly was a seriously good film as a jump off for discussion with little ones on MANY levels.  I knew absolutely nothing about it -- I simply walked into it because it wasn't too heavy and it started at the right time.

PS -- edited to add for the parents:

Epic does deal with death.  Early on the Queen of the "Leaf people" catches an arrow from the bad folks and the Heroine's mother has just recently passed away.  It's handled well -- but be prepared.  It's not for TINY kids -- and with voices like Beyonce and Pitbull it makes it more attractive to the actual age that can benefit most from it despite the fact that it's a "kids movie".

That reminded me of a story a woman I worked with told. Her husband was repairing some part of their toilet and somehow in the process he cracked the whole thing and they had to replace it. That would be my luck ;).

Speaking of...DH was trying to repair one of the very expensive carbon rims on his bike the other day and cracked it. When I saw how much they cost to replace, I asked him how he kept from crying when it happened. Wow!!! :(

LONG day!! Happily the news from the surgeon was all good!

This makes it all worth it!

I took the long way home and stopped at a couple of parks that had bodies of water for B. He thought this was great. I thought the route was great until I hit the northern 'burbs of Raleigh. Freaking nightmare!!

But I'm home and getting organized now - hope its been a good day for all

Jackie I hope the Spurs beat the Heat

So glad to hear that Bugsy's report was positive, and it sounds like you made the journey more enjoyable for both of you with the park stops.

Callie, you're the second person in a couple days who told me they really liked the Star Trek movie.  I've never seen any of them -- I assume I'd have trouble following them since I've never watched the TV show.  However, this new movie has a villain played by a British actor whom I love (Benedict Cumberbatch), so I may see it just to watch him.  He's AWESOME as Sherlock in the new BBC series (just called "Sherlock";).  It's set in modern day times, so he uses a cell phone and other technology.  Dr. Watson is an Iraq war veteran -- he's played by Martin Freeman (of the Hobbit movies and the original Office TV series).

A coworker just saw it yesterday in 3D and said it was absolutely amazing. I was a huge Star Trek fan growing up, so I'd like to see it.

We got word that we'll close on Friday or Monday *gulp*

Wheeee Cathy!! Were there things that the seller had to fix?
