    Tuesday's chat

I will not turn my AC on.

I will not turn my AC on.

I need to remove the fleece sheets from the bed. Stick out tongue

I watched the finale of the Office last night and it was pretty ho hum. I would have thought they would have been a bit more creative with it. It had a few cute moments but other than that it was pretty boring, which sort of sums up the last few seasons of the show.

I'm getting closer to buying my tiny toy hauler / camper. I might be going to look at a few tonight. I am sick of sleeping in a tent but don't want to tow anything big and need room for the dogs. It's all very complicated. Especially since I don't want to spend more than $7k too. I could just get a pop up but they are so much work. I want to pull up, pull out my camp chair and be done ;p So, I am looking at this one http://microlitetrailer.com/MLThome2.htm or this one http://microlitetrailer.com/MLThome2.htm

As a side note, I really hope the new forum automatically puts creates hotlinks. It is soooooo annoying to have to go through a bunch of steps to make it happen and you pretty much can't make it happen when typing from a phone. I also hope that it is easier to add photos to threads. This current forum software is probably the worst I have ever used. /rant off

So, 30 years ago today Todd and I got married.  Time flies whether you are having fun or not!!  Mostly, yep, it's been fun, but we've had a few bumps on lifes road too, but oddly, those bumps just made us stronger together.

just turn it on - fewer sinus troubles Wink

    Congrats Glenda and Mr Glenda

Gosh I am reeling over the devastation in OK and just learned that Syria and Israel are going at it.

On a side note, thank goodness for BBC news, I woke up this morning and they were saying there were 91 dead and the US 'live' news was saying 57 which was the number from last night. I saw absolutely nothing on the Israel/Syria thing. American news reporting is really poor, sorry.

I have a zillion things to do today but its oh so easy to procrastinate. Besides we came home to super wet weather, something like 4 inches of rain over the weekend, more rain today. Its green out there - be from foliage or mold!

OK must stop procrastinating. I think I'll post a few beach pics THEN set about some work

Yes it is. Too much sensationalism, too little real info.

Julie, it's supposed to drop back into the high 60s and low 70s through Memorial Day at least. Maybe take the fleece sheets off your bed but keep a comforter nearby. LOL

    Happy Anniversary Glenda!!

Tuesdays are my Monday and always super busy and I have a meeting as soon as I get in, so that'll delay me getting anything done. DH has a dr's appt, so I'll be taking Shane with me. He'll love the socializing with the visitors at the office :).

I was just watching the news and they said the medical examiner in OK just revised the number of dead from 51 to 24, and 7 of those are children. Still sad, but much better than the original numbers. My thoughts are still with all of the people dealing with this disaster. I also hope that no more twisters touch down today.

    no fair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure why BBC is better simply because they're reporting on Syria/Israel or their death toll numbers are different than what's reported here.  All the news coverage immediately after these disasters is subject to number of dead being revised.  I think we've seen that all too often lately with all the terrible natural and man made disasters. :(

I think it's all about perspective and where your viewing or listening market lives as far as reporting international news, etc.  If a huge natural disaster struck London I doubt the BBC would spend much time reporting news of the Middle East or Oklahoma.  Of course I could be wrong about that since I don't watch the BBC much.  lol

News media all over the world know that the public loves sensationalism.  It's a well understood human reaction.

The tornado damage is horrible and the loss of life is tragic whether it's one or a thousand.  I heard an interview this morning on the radio and the reporter was talking to what sounded like an elderly woman.  Her little dog was missing after her home was destroyed as she and the dog sheltered in a small bathroom.  During the interview, the dog showed up.  The owner was overcome and I was crying listening to her reaction.  I know it's nothing like losing a child or other loved one but it was so touching to hear and so heartwarming to know that at least this woman has her little dog to cling to amid the destruction.

sorry if I tweaked a nerve about news reporting - I prefer the BBC news (online) because it is a world news service which typically has more facts, is less biased and is more current. If CBS/NBC/ABC have a two hour morning slot for news it seems they can mention a few other significant events.

     Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Glenda!

Julie, Luke thinks you need the A/C.  Today, tomorrow and Thursday will be in the 80s here. That's pushing it for him.

I'm thinking of whipping up a batch of these for the Memorial Day weekend festivities:

    Cherry Apple Whiskey Sour Popsicles

    Cherry Apple Whiskey Sour Popsicles

    3 cups cherries
    1 large green apple
    1 lime
    1 cup whiskey
½ cup of sweet and sour mix (recipe follows)

Pit cherries and peel away apple and lime skin; cut fruit into quarters. Blend all ingredients. Pour mixture into popsicle forms and freeze for 2 hours. Insert popsicle sticks and freeze overnight. Yields 8.

    Sweet and Sour Mix

    ½ cup water
    ½ cup sugar
    1 cup lemon juice

Heat sugar and water in a saucepan until sugar dissolves. Add lemon juice and stir. Cool before using.

I wouldn't know if any of this is true since I don't watch it online or elsewhere and I don't have the means to check any news sources'  accuracy unless I personally witnessed or participated in a news story.  All news reporting contains a certain amount of bias though it's not always obvious depending on a person's own personal bias and opinion. Seems they didn't get the death toll right (based on their own recent figures changing)as no one knows what it is at this point so maybe the BBC "facts" are not any more current or factual than any other news site or they too are having to adjust their info as it comes in, like every other non world news site.  Sorry, but you did touch a nerve because it sounded a bit pompous from my side of the monitor.

It could be that I'm not in the best of moods (understatement of the year) so I will apologize in advance for making a mountain out of a molehill.  I did post a very touching video in Deb's thread concerning the tornado and a little four legged survivor.

    Congratulations Mr and Mrs Glenda!!!

4 DAYS until our cruise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  This will be the first time we've ever boarded Ari for more than a couple nights.  Gonna miss the stinker.  My cat is going to stay with my mom.  The person who was going to come to my house to check on her had to cancel.  There was no one else I could ask.  So, she'll be in an unfamiliar house, but she's familiar with my mom.   Hopefully it won't stress her out too much.

I didn't see it yesterday and you're welcome!

Those popsicles look delcious!  But, based on the holiday weather we're expecting, I may have to hold off making them until 4th of July when it'll be warmer.

Sharon -- it seems like you were just planning your cruise.  Can't believe you're nearly ready to go.  It'll be great!

Julie, that trailer is so cute!  I looked at the link but they didn't show any indoor photos.  It looks cozy - I bet you'd really enjoy it.  Being so small, you wouldn't have to drive one of those giant pick-up trucks to haul it, right?  If you get one, I'd like to see some photos of you and the dogs using it!

As for the TV news thing -- I can't speak to BBC news specifically, but I must say I agree that regular network news drive me a bit nutty when they cover big stories like natural disasters or the bombings, etc.  When eating breakfast, I had CBS This Morning on.  The reporter at the tornado site was interviewing a young boy who survived one of the school collapses.  He described the scary experience he had, how they had to take cover with the teacher, what they saw and heard, etc., and he said:  "I thought I was going to die."  The reporter said, "Why did you think you were going to die?"  Really?  That's what you ask him after he just described what he experienced???  Sometimes they say and ask the silliest things, just to keep talking on these broadcasts.

I prefer the less sensationalized news they tend to provide on the NPR radio updates or the evening PBS broadcasts, but like someone else said, I think all the media outlets know what most viewers want to see, so there's always some level of that stuff in the reporting.  At some point, you do get overwhelmed with all the upsetting images, even if you want to try to stay informed, so it's a tough balance.

On a lighter note, my laptop is on its last legs, so I've got to research where I can get a very basic one for under $500 preferably.  I think I'll end up at WalMart or Costco.  This one lasted well over 8 years, so I can't complain I guess.
