Why do dogs scratch their beds?

Ava does it to make her blankets comfy for her, she likes a nest. :)

It's a nesting instinct -- and they also have scent glands in their feet -- it's like saying "MY bed" --

Maze digs up blankets to make a pile of comfy to flop on. Sandy digs to make a burrow and hide in it. Dodger digs to steal my blanket!
