Wednesday musings

    Wednesday musings

One more really cold day and then we should have more spring like temps starting tomorrow.  At least we have bright sunshine today.  That makes it seem a bit less cold.

This morning I rediscovered the joy of stretching.  Don't know why, but it's been ages since I was aware of stretching and really enjoying the feel of it. The critters definately have that one right!  You rarely see a dog or cat get up withut a good stretch first.

Speaking of critters.....the new trainee is young, intelligent, enthusiastic, and reminds me of having a whole box of puppies in the car with me!  He is sooooo high energy that he makes me feel like a slug!  It's actually cute, but wow, talk about exhausting!  He'll do well if he can forus that energy.  And, if I can survive feeling like I'm 345 years old around him!

Off to start the day.  Hope everyone has a good one.

Finally caught up on some of the threads, so I feel like I kind of know what's going on :)

I know I'm a bit late, but congrats at Nationals, Paige!  When you were in McConnellsburg you were only about 1/2 hour from where I live.  If your ever down in the area again, maybe we could meet up.

I love Aaron's babysitter.  We were going to put him in a daycare center, but some coworker's recommended a woman they knew who was starting her own in home daycare.  Her and her husband are awesome, and they absolutely adore Aaron.

I am so ready for the weather to be warm.

I'm looking forward to this weekend, DH and I are going to meet some Swissies :D  I had a training class w/ one several years ago and completely fell in love w/ them.  DH has never seen any in person, and wants to meet a couple before they go on our "one day" list.

Guess that's enough mindlessness for right now.  Have a good one everybody.

Living the dream here today.  Indifferent

    That is all.

Hi, Steph!  I'm glad to hear you found a great option for Aaron.  I bet some who aren't on FB would be surprised at how big he's gotten.

We had a few storms last night and got some much needed rain.  We had an inch at the house and that's not going to make a lot of difference but we'll take whatever we can get at this point.

Starting to look like spring. Most of the snow is gone. Only about 2 months left in the possible snow season, so there is hope. Lakes are starting to open up. Saw a flock of ducks actually floating in a small pond, but see lots of geese walking on the ice claiming turf.

This winter has been a taste of retirement. I think I averaged about 3 hours of work/week, but that should pick up soon. I went for a service call yesterday, expecting to do some electrical work (dry hands) in a protected spot in the sun. The office then let me know about the other call. In the wind coming off a lake. Little chilly, but very pretty spot. I think I could handle being wealthy and having a weekend house in the 5000sq ft range located on a scenic lake.

Going to 50ºF+ today. Need the suntanning lotion, sunglasses. Maybe we will lose the ice on the fish pond.

Been playing with the power tools. Decided to make a shadow box display for a couple of replica civil war era revolvers, using finger joints. Fun project, but I need a better dado cutting set up.( I am trying to justify getting new tools). The joints turned out really well. I was surprised. Think I'll make some nice little boxes now. Be interesting to give gifts wrapped in wood presentation boxes. Local big box stores have nice selections of oak, maple, walnut, and I have some birch and locust logs I can split and use.

Just got done with my monthly conference call in which absolutely nothing gets accomplished.  Sheesh !!

I'm off to get my hair trimmed.  I'm still growing it out and so far I haven't been too tempted to cut it really short again.  I hope my hair gal is in a better mood than last time.  She sounded super happy on the phone when I called begging to be fit in this morning.  Probably giddy from the rain. lol

Good luck with your hair appt Jackie. I have one on Friday and already dread the idea of sitting still for 2 hours :(.

It's going to be close to 80 today but then cooler and maybe rainy the next few days. I brought Shane in so DH could get out for a bike ride. He usually doesn't like to ride the day he gets off work but since this might be the only decent day, he's going for it.

I'm working a breakfast fundraiser Saturday morning and have to be there early but since I have to drive curvy country roads I've never been on, I'm not leaving until it's light out. I wish I could carpool with someone but no one lives near me. I sure hope they get a good turnout. I felt proud that I was able to get a woman who bakes specialty dog treats to donate a basket for the silent auction. My SIL also donated a Thomas Kincaid picture. Hopefully they'll get a good price for it.

My dog walker is starting today and I forgot to leave the no pull harnesses and leashes (that are in my car)

Oops -- that might make things a bit difficult for your dog-walker, Julie!

Glenda, you're right about critters and stretching.  Ruby does what I call her "morning yoga" when she finally gets off our bed.  It sure is obvious how the position called "Downward Dog" got its name!  I used to be very good about stretching before I got out of bed -- it really helped my lower back -- but I've gotten out of the habit.

Steph - sounds like you got a great sitter for Aaron.  I can only imagine what a relief it is to know your child is in good hands when you aren't with him!

Doug, I don't think you're alone in your quest to find projects that "require" new tools.  I'm sure that's something many men (and some women!) can relate to.  My husband is that way with cooking supplies and "tools."  He often finds recipes to try that require some kitchen gadget we don't already have.  I'm grateful when it's something relatively small and affordable, but it's another story when he needs a different kind of grille or smoker or something crazy like that!

Bummer about the early morning drive on unfamiliar curvy roads, Cathy.  I'd want to find a carpool buddy, too.

I've got a task to tackle today that I cannot focus on.  It kept me up last night (I knew it would), and here I am avoiding it now.  Glenda, think you could figure out a way to send me some of your new trainee's youthful, boundless energy?  Sounds like he's got plenty to spare!

Two hours for a hair appointment?  I was done in 45 minutes and it took longer than usual because she told me the entire plot, scene by scene, of the latest Tyler Perry movie.Tongue Tied Then she told me I should be sure and go see it.  I wanted to tell her there's no point since she just finished torturing me with the whole thing, including the ending. lol  I guess my haircuts are pretty quick because I don't have anything else done, like color or whatever.

We had anothor storm dump some good rain on us. :)

Mine are quick too.  Quick wash, cut then out.  I never get my hair blown out.  Only charges me $20 to boot !!

ROFL!!! omg - I'd have been dying. Yeah, I have the highlights done and it takes forever. Other than that, he just trims it and blows it dry.

Even though he's always been fine with it, Max is now freaking out when he hears thunder, which we had a lot of over the weekend.  He ran behind the TV to hide and I had to have Liam grab him by the collar and drag him out.  There are just too many wires in that little corner so I don't think it's a particularly safe place for him to be curling up.

I spent a couple of days sorting through an absolutely obscene hoard of plastic  bags from assorted stores.  Now I've got them all separated into nice little categories ... general grocery bags for scooping up all the piles in the back yard (takes one bag, tie it off and dump it), produce bags that tie nicely on the leash but are only good for one pick up and Target and Wal Mart bags that are really nice and strong and too good to use for dog poop. I even had to go to World Market to buy a nice woven round hamper with a lid to keep a  bunch of them in so they'd be handy. Any bag that had a hole in the bottom went to Safeway to get tossed in the recycle bin. I probably have a lifetime supply which will keep growing.
