Lisa, that call would've upset me, too -- how scary to hear someone so confused. I'm glad you were able to reassure her so she felt calm again. If the family hasn't had reason to suspect anything like dementia or Alzheimer's before now, it's very possible medications are having some effect, especially if she took the wrong dose or something. Also, it's not unheard of for elderly people to get dehydrated because they forget to drink enough water, which can also cause confusion like that. Another thing that can cause similar cognitive issues is an extreme B-12 deficiency. Sounds like a doctor's visit would be best.
Marty, your Easter dinner story was definitely a disaster! How awful! I've almost had similar things happen when I put things on a cookie sheet to catch spills. I'm sorry your dog was startled enough to dash out the door, but that's better than a burned tongue! Ruby is terrible when we open the oven door -- all she knows is there's food in there, regardless of how hot it might be. One of us has to hold her back while the other gets the food out.
I'm a compulsive list-maker, too. I do them the old fashioned way, on pieces of paper (no surprise!). I have post-it notes stuck on my car's dash, I've got lists on my office desk, on the kitchen counter, in my purse. I need a master list of where all my lists are! I've not ever left myself a phone message, but I have sent myself email reminders. The older I get, the more I rely on these "support systems!"
