So, what are the Easter plans?

    Easter Basket Cocktail

    Easter Basket Cocktail

    Ingredients:

    1 1/2 ounces Cherry Vodka
    1/2 ounce Triple Sec
3 ounces Half and Half or Milk
    Dash Grenadine

    Directions:

Rim a martini glass with thick simple syrup and then dip into dyed green coconut flakes, then adorn with a little marshmallow peep. Think of it as your very own adult Easter Basket, but instead of being filled with candy, it’s filled with booze!

Shake with ice until chilled. Pour into decorated glasses and serve

Peeps - *gag*!  I'm sure my kids would like them, though.

    Atta boy, Max!

With being so busy with work and everyone being sick, I haven't had any time to plan for Easter. I've got a couple things for each kid, but no candy and no egg dye yet. I've got to run to the store some time today. I really don't want to get much candy; everyone is just starting to feel better and I think a load of sugar is not what sick little bellies need. Sad

Jan - I hope you are feeling better and that everyone in the family can catch a break and not be so ill.  I felt so bad reading your update yesterday.  Horrible horrible. :(

That drink looks like fun in the picture!  Now if we could just find a cocktail that involves Cadbury Mini Eggs I'd be all set.  I'm "enjoying" my annual weight gain from Mini Eggs again this year.  (Not that you can tell from the volume of weight I've gained over the last year or so!  whew!)

Doing some online shopping with gift certificates.  Looks like the dogs at DRU are gonna get some collars from Auntie Paige!

Smart, handsome, and a budding doctor. Is he single?

Tina, that made me snort on my hot cocoa!  Too funny.

Actually, I think Bugsy read all my posts about my fear/hatred of snakes, and being the chivalrous gentleman that he is, he decided that snake needed to be destroyed - PRONTO!  Glad he's rallying so quickly, Karen.

Jan, I hope everyone is feeling better soon.  And I'm with you on the peeps.  Yuck.  Cadbury Eggs, on the other hand . . . Yum!

From yesterday -- Joyce, that's amazing that Max stayed inside while the guys were in the yard.  There is no way Ruby would do that.

Speaking of Ruby, also from yesterday -- I think it was Maureen who wondered if I mentioned the risk of poisoning to Ruby if that would stop my neighbor from putting poison out for the squirrels.  Maybe I'm being harsh, but I don't think he likes ANY animals, so he probably wouldn't worry about who the poison affects.  However, I am going to email his wife (who is so nice; I like her very much).  I'll say her kids mentioned Dad was putting out poison and would she be able to tell me exactly what kind it is so I'll have the info on hand in case Ruby (or our other neighbor's dog) gets a poisoned squirrel and we need to tell the vet what chemicals she was exposed to.  Maybe that will make her convince him to stop putting it out.  She likes Ruby, and her kids love her, too, so he's out-numbered with his anti-animal activities!

Few cars on the road this AM and almost no one here in our office building.  I guess other people have nice employers who give them Good Friday off!

Check your laws. The neighbor may be incurring some liability here, especially as the dead squirrels can wind up anywhere.

from yesterday - yay for Max!! Angel

Karen - I'm so glad Bugsy is feeling better this morning.

Julie - also glad that Abbie suffered no ill affects from licking the poison.

DH just left for a bike ride and I'm going to take Shane up the road for a walk and then stop and pick up some Easter candy for DH. Later we're going out to our favorite place for Mexican food. We haven't been in ages but I'd bought a voucher that expires this weekend and now I'm glad I did. It'll be nice to get out for a bit.

Tomorrow I'm going to the foster orientation at HartSong ranch. They know I'm not interested in fostering right now but might be sometime in the future, so I wanted to have the orientation under my belt. I'm riding up there with a couple of women that I really like and looking forward to the whole day.

DH's sister invited us there for Easter but neither of us really wanted to make the 45 min. drive and I was planning on working out at HB, so I politely declined. Now it looks like it might rain that day, so I may not be able to do anything at the rescue but I still like the idea of hanging out at home with DH and Shane.

Doug, my husband researched a bit online last night.  Depending on the type of squirrels, some are protected (not like endangered species, but you're not suppose to trap or kill them).  We need to track down more info related to our specific county or city.  In all other respects, they are great neighbors and we're really glad we have a nice family like them next door.  When houses are 10 feet apart, it's a good thing when neighbors are agreeable.  So, it's awkward, since we don't want to create any bad feelings . . . but this is a serious issue.

I forgot to say that I agree with you, Doug, about having the "problem" of a larger tax burden because one's income is so incredibly high.  In my experience (I've seen it first-hand with people I work for), when incomes are very, very high, such people can afford professional, specialized tax accountants who somehow make that tax burden drop significantly (I know they use legal options in the tax code, but it's still annoying!).

Cathy, enjoy your relaxing, family-free Easter.  It's nice to not have anywhere you have to be on some holidays, especially if you can avoid a long drive.

So, my sister and idiot brother in law are stuck in a hotel for 2 weeks to a month. Their ice maker in the refrigerator was leaking. It apparently leaked so long there was mushroom growth. The floors have to be redone, and I think all the kitchen appliances are being replaced except the stove. I'm shocked the insurance is paying, considering that since they had mushroom growth, it was a slow leaked, and it was neglected for quite some time. Nobody bothered to do any cleaning, and pull the ottoman that is on the opposite side of the kitchen wall to the refrigerator for long enough that mushrooms started to grow there. Hopefully the two idiots are ready to kill each other quickly, with having to stay in a tiny room together, not able to get away from each other for all that time. Actually, it wouldn't be so bad if they were ready to kill each other quickly.

HI *crawling out from under my rock* -- it's been a hugely busy week at work *and* home -- The boss let my co-worker and I go at 1 -- nice of him. He's Jewish so it's not on his radar to "think" about Good Friday. I respect him highly -- he lives what he believes (I was being complimentary here, not derogatory at all). It's lovely to be home and have most of my chores done before David is out of work.

So, what are the Easter plans?  Anyone doing an egg hunt with little ones?

Every year David and I go down to Bok Tower (Lake Wales -- 45 minutes south of Disney World) for their sunrise service on Easter.

It's a tad insane -- we get up at 3:30 to leave the house by 4:30 to be down there before 6.  But the sight of the sun rising over the Tower is beyond beautiful -- and the Gardens are gorgeous.

But there's something about dong something "special" - the planning, making a thermos of coffee, remember the bug spray and blankets  ... just to spend the day  being "with".  It was one of the 1st places I took David when he very came over here (on Easter then) and we saw a couple get married that day there "hmmm ... pretty place for a wedding!" .... and a year later we did *that*.  *smile*

Jan -- true story.  When I was about 3 my folks bought this HUGE white chocolate rabbit for my basket.  Easter Day -- between Dad and I we pretty well polished off that rabbit.

And I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO SICK! (so was he).  I don't think either of us has willingly touched white chocolate since that day!!

Thereafter, my "Easter Basket" had a Barbie or similar in it instead of candy.  It kept my teasing for a new Barbie minimal (cos you couldn't tick off the Easter Bunny-- even when you were old enough to know better -- but only an IDIOT would tell *my* mother they didn't believe!!  That would mean "he" would stop coming LOL

But dang -- I got some great Barbie stuff that way LOL

Way to go BUGSY!!  Recouperating and saving the world from one more snake!!  GO FOR IT!

Julie - I'm so glad Abby is ok

Jan -- ugh -- I hope you ALL feel better

I hope everyone else just has a bit of fun this weekend!

I can think of many things I associate with Easter:  baskets, bunnies, jelly beans, eggs, pastel colors . . . but that's the first time I've heard "bug spray" involved in an Easter celebration!  Big Smile  Actually, that looks like a beautiful spot, Callie. I'm sure it makes for a very special and memorable Easter.

Jen, mushrooms growing inside the house?!  That is disgusting.  I've seen them growing on the OUTSIDE when mold has gotten out of control on bad siding (probably more common out here in the permanently damp climate).  And I've heard of mold inside a house --- but mushrooms growing inside is another thing entirely.  I don't feel too sorry for your sister and BIL since it sounds like the problem could've avoided if they'd been more observant and careful, but your poor little niece was in that environment . . . it's got to have an effect on things like her respiratory system.  I mean, mushrooms are fungi, right?  Ick.

I'm heading home now -- my friend has the day off, so I'll call her when I get home and we'll walk Ruby.  It's very pleasant outside!

Yes, mushrooms inside the house. I think the reason the insurance is covering it is that they actually did have someone , or several someones out earlier. They kept thinking it was the dishwasher leaking. I know they had some friend of my dad's out, and I think they had someone out from wherever the dishwasher was from because it was maybe under warranty. Still though, do they never vacuum under the ottoman? If they pulled from it's spot occasionally, they would have seen it was wet under it much earlier. I actually know the answer to that. My BIL keeps it piled with crap. y house is a mess, but we move the crap and clean sometimes. The couches get pulled off the walls and cleaned behind. My niece is staying here right now. She typically does when my sister works. Her father doesn't even typically bother to take her even when he has no school or work (and he rarely has work). He is home every Thursday, and she is here every Thursday. My friend and her son come over to play every Thursday. Right now, she is staying here. When my sister isn't working, she'll  probably take her to the hotel for a bit. There's a pool there, which she'll probably think is great. But, 3 people, 2 who barely get a long in a hotel room, with no place to get away from each other for a month? It's a good thing she stays here when my sister is working. I won't  be surprised if my sister isn't staying here soon too. My niece is really only home when they have classes about half the time.

Alright, it's time to chop the hotdogs for flyball.
