Monday chat

Karen - I really hope you don't have nasty weather to deal with tomorrow and I'll be praying for a successful surgery for Bugsy.

Tina - was it scary? I love scary movies but haven't seen a good one in a very long time.

Julie - we get ants sometimes when we've had a lot of rain. They're not usually looking for food and I find them in my bathroom. I've found those gel type traps (can't remember the name) work the best. I hate ants too.

The person who covers for me on Mondays is off for spring break, so I might go in to the office for a couple hours and then just shorten the time I work the next couple of days. I think I'll take Shane back to the scene of the snake today. I'm determined to get past being afraid of going there again.

I see it at least once or twice a week.
This would be one of the reasons I live rural. One stop sign, then on the highway. 10 miles and off. Once you get used to seeing cars coming at you while they are passing (2 lane) and learn to drive on the hard shoulder, no problems. Having a gun rack in the truck window and driving with a maniacal smile seems to keep traffic moving. Actually, the highway between my home and work is considered one of the most deadly highways in MN. Lots of heavy trucks and the 55mph is considered by many as just a suggestion. I can not count how many times I've been on the hard shoulder either making room for someone passing me or dodging someone who passed coming at me and underestimated distances and closing rates. On the plus side, Bald Eagles and vultures are seen frequently.

A long haired dog is always fun when the snow melts. I don't know how, but we walk down a basically dry roadway and the hair on Pipers underside mops up water. It doesn't touch the ground, but when we get home, the hair is dripping muddy water.

I am trying to make a display box for a pair of old cap and ball revolvers I have-replicas of civil war era. Making finger joints with the table saw and a wobble style dado blade to cut the fingers. I may have to buy some more tools to get it right. A quality stacked dado blade or a router table. What I am using is almost good. It is really fun trying to do precision work in an unheated garage with power tools at 20ºF. When we moved into this house, I wanted to put the table saw in the green house. Good space and light, but my wife vetoed that idea quickly.

Cathy, it's a weekly series on either AMC or A&E that just started. I think there is another episode tonight at 10:00p EST. I never stay up watching TV past 9:00p on worknights and obviously I can't remember channels, so I probably won't even remember to dvr it.

I didn't think it was scary, but I never really got scared at so-called scary movies when I used to watch them. Bizarre is the only way I can describe it.

Actually, I have never seen anyone do this.
Really ??  I see it at least once or twice a week.

That's New Jersey/New York drivers.  I truly learned how to drive when I lived in New Jersey.  All about slalom driving and finding a space and watching for the people who are looking for that space.  No safe following distances btwn cars - that's just a space for someone else to slalom into and out of to get just a few cars ahead of you.  I must say I was very thankful for my NJ driving education when I was driving home last week. (And, yes, there was someone stopped in the EZ Pass lane in northern NJ.)

I think it's funny that my mom is so scared of the guvmnt having access to her checking account that she refuses to get an EZ Pass.  I explained she can walk into the office and set up an account with cash that has NO ties to her banking accounts, but she still doesn't like it - thinks "they" will be tracking her.  WHO CARES!?  They can track you any single time they want.  They can seize your bank accounts any time they want.

Karen, I'm sorry you have to hit the road and it's snowing.  That is nearly the worst.  The worst would be icy roads.  So I will say some safe travel prayers for you to have safe roads and safer drivers - so that the only people out on the roads are the ones who can actually handle it correctly.  Is your husband going with you?  Or are you driving alone?  We'll all be sending strong prayers for a good day for Bugsy tomorrow.

Nothing big to report here, aside from the fact that I filed my taxes w/Turbo Tax last night around 7pm, and got a text just after midnight that the IRS had accepted them.  Sweet.  Thanks Turbo Tax, for making that easy!

Thanks everyone - I will set up another 'vibes' thread in Spiritual Circle so I can update there tomorrow

I am feeling pretty on top of all that I need to do today..........wondering when that will end!

Lisa I miss you on here, hope you are doing well!

Doug its the water off their feet I believe. Bugsy gets muddy water on his belly I presume from his gait as his belly is a long way from the earth :)

I'm starving for lunch.  Brought leftover chicken pot pie that I made last night.  I don't know how well that will heat up but it's what I've got.

Doug, sounds like Piper could use some mud flaps.  Hmmmm . . . there's an invention someone should develop!

Karen, add my good vibes to the collection you've got for safe driving for you and smooth surgery for Bugsy.  I know you'll keep us posted.

Sharon, I'm sorry to hear about your hours being cut.  I thought things seemed settled nicely after your recent talk with your boss.  Was it a surprise to you that your hours were cut?  Hopefully it's for just a short time.

No tolls here, so I can't comment on the EZ Pass issue, but I did have something interesting happen on my way to work this AM.  Not long after I left our neighborhood, a huge SUV came barreling up behind me and sat on my bumper.  I was not driving slowly; in fact, I was probably going 2-3 MPH above the limit (on a 2-lane road, near a school, not a high speed area).  When I reached a light, I thought the woman would rear-end me, she was that close.  I turned off to get my blueberry scone, and she zoomed past.  A few minutes later, I was about 2 miles further down the road, and I saw flashing lights.  Lo and behold, a motorcycle cop had pulled over Ms. Speedy.  I know it shows that I'm immature and vindictive, but that really made my day!  I smiled the rest of my way in to work!

No lottery winnings for us, either.  Not even one darn number!!  I don't know why we buy the tickets.  I wonder if the winner in NJ is someone who was severely affected by Storm Sandy -- I'd like to see the winnings go to someone who could really use the money!

Our game got rescheduled. The visiting Canadians took precedence. They are giving us millions of dollars so I guess I can't complain :p

Julie; we've been dealing with ants lately too, and I use Terro liquid ant baits. They seem to work well and may be the gel traps Cathy was referring too.

Karen; sending vibes for a very successful surgery for B, and a safe trip. We had 10 inches of snow in our area last night; hope you get a lot less.

My hours had been cut to 32 previously, now to 24 due to the (hopefully) temporary loss of a major client.  So, surprising, but not at the same time.  If it were only my hours being cut, I wouldn't be so upset but some stuff went down last week that has me regretting my decision to stay.  Let's just say my boss isn't inspiring loyalty and I'm really only here because I like what I do and love working with our clients.  I'm hoping that will be enough to keep me going.

I'm glad we also have my significant others' income.  If it were just me, I'd have to find something else ASAP.  I'm truly fortunate.

Ahh, thanks Karen. The weekends get so crazy and to be truthful, Riley absolutely HOGS the computer on the weekend so I don't get a chance to come on. LOL I read everyday just don't always post. One of the reasons is because I use Google Chrome now and it doesn't do paragraphs and it makes me crazy. So if anyone has a trick that I could use, I would appreciate it :) Julie - yeah, the Candian's probably would take precedence ;-)

Yes - those are the ones I was referring to. I even use them at my office.

Sharon - I'm so sorry about the job thing. Did I miss what happened about the interview at the university?

    • Gold Top Dog

After a good talk with my boss, I decided to stop job hunting and cancelled my interview.  I love the field I'm currently employed in (it's what I went to school for after all).  After the situations that came about last week, I am starting to regret the decision not to interview at the university.  But, there's only forward not back :)  It's just a hard situation, on one hand I don't want to be doing anything but what I'm doing right now in terms of my career - but on the other hand I'm fed up with my boss.  Hence, I'm happy she's not working from the office today.  There have been warning signs about her as a boss, but I've been able to overlook it because I love what I do.  However, she way overstepped the line last week with me at least.  If I didn't need a job, I probably would have quit on the spot.  The situation actually has nothing to do with my hours being cut.
