    Wintery Wednesday chat

Blech.  I am sooooo over winter, but it's still not over us.  Dratted Mother Nature and Old Man Winter mixing it up.  Blech.  Call off the affair already and let us have SPRING!

Yet another busy day today, complicated by everyone I go to see being so over winter as well!  Oh well.  Just another challenge to overcome I guess.

    Wishing everyone a great day.

Where is everyone today? Not much happening here. I overslept this morning so I a little behind the eight ball to get things out. Hope everyone is having a good day!!!

Wow!  What a chatty group we are this morning!  LOL!

Hmm probably half of us are dying of heat and the other half are too frozen to post ;p

I am half way back to being alive again. My fever has passed and once I stop sneezing up a storm I will be good to go!

Im really stressing about not being at work these last couple of days. Just thinking of all the work piling up ugh.

Spring is right around the corner right?

Wow -- usually by the time I can check in, you guys are deep into chat by now.  Maybe some of you are busy shoveling snow -- I couldn't believe some of the footage they showed on the news last night of the snow fall in New England.  I hope Paige made it back home safely.

The weather here is quite unpleasant.  Heavy, heavy rain all night (we discovered we've got a gutter problem by the front porch --- a mini lake was forming in the flower bed from the waterfall that "missed" the gutter).  Lots of high winds, too.  They've clocked some gusts at nearly 40 MPH here in town.

I think Ruby could tell it was miserable outside.  Usually she stays curled up on our bed while I'm getting ready in the mornings and will hop down as soon as I head out of the bedroom and to the kitchen.  Today she didn't follow me out there for a few minutes, and when she came out, she jumped right on the loveseat and curled up again.  I wrapped her up like a burrito in her blanket.  Smile

Oops thanks Tina for letting me know. I was going back over yesterday's posts and was surprised when I read your post Tina. I honestly was thinking Jan. Must have had your name in my head as well, I guess. Happy Belated Birthday Jan.Cake

I started a thread looking for info on Spring and summer activities for dogs in NDR.  Would appreciate a little input from everyone.  And Julie?  I would love to have a snippet to use on S&R.

I must be brain dead....HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAN!!

I try not to complain about the weather, but that wind is raw today and I sure wish I was wrapped up with Ruby!

No problem, Maureen. Names are not my forte', so it's not unusual for me to mix them up, even with people I've known forever. Last night a friend was texting me and he called me Tami. He felt really stupid, but I told him it was okay, I've been called far worse.Wink

    edited for retarded errors

Speaking of saying the wrong name -- that reminds me of a funny story.  Sorry if I've told it here before!

When we lived in our old neighborhood, there was a guy who lived across the street who generally kept to himself, so we'd never made formal introductions.  One day, DH was out doing yardwork, and the guy was in his driveway.  DH called out "Hello" or "How are ya?" or something like that -- and the guy replied, calling DH "Frank" (which is not DH's name).  DH thought maybe he misheard him, so he didn't say anything, but every time the guy saw DH after that, he'd call him Frank.  DH didn't want to correct the guy, in case it would embarrass him, so DH just played along all the time the guy lived there!  Tongue Tied

I hope those with crappy weather get a break soon.  We're enjoying some beautiful weather.  I wish I was outside instead of back in the office.  Took Gabby for a quick run at the park nearby.  She ran, I didn't. lol  I know it's going to get hot soon (that 95 the other day was a fluke) but for now I'm loving this warm Spring weather.

Tracy, I remember you telling that story before but I laughed again. Big Smile Reminds me of our one neighbor Andy/Tony.  We don't know which is correct so we just say HI!  lol

My coworker is wanting to grow pineapples.  After reading up on it, I told him it sounds like a slow process and I'll just buy mine at the store.

    Julie, glad you're feeling better.

Glenda, can't think of any other outside summer activities to do with a dog other than the ones you mentioned.  In the summer we do very little with the dogs outside because it's so hot.  I can give you pages and pages and pages on field training retrievers but I doubt your target audience would be interested.  :)  AKC has a good website that might give you some ideas.

It's Willa bean's 5th birthday today. Party!!! I made rice krispy treats for her class treat. I even drove her to school today so she didn't have to ride the cheese wagon.

I ran to Hellmart to pick up her cake and two tubes of wrapping paper. I got home and started wrapping presents. I realized that the silvery-gold with colored dots wrapping paper I bought is actually CLEAR. Clear wrapping paper. What I thought was sliver-gold was the cardboard tube showing through the clear paper. Who makes CLEAR wrapping paper?! Doesn't that defeat the purpose of wrapping? Sheesh. It was in with all the other wrapping paper so I didn't even read the label. I had two white boxes that I was able to put some stuff in, so I was able to use some of it.

That's ok Maureen, I knew who you meant! Smile I'm bad with names, too.

    That's funny, Tracy!

I think one pineapple takes about 18 months to grow. Supposedly you can chop the top off a ripe pineapple and start a new plant from that. I'm pretty sure we don't have the growing season around here for that. Wink We did see some wild pineapple in Belize when we were hiking to the cave tubing drop-in spot. Paradise  *slips into deep, dreamy, reminiscing mode*

Willa is 5 already?  No way!  It seems like yesterday you announced your pregnancy, Janice.  Time flies!  Sending Willa many happy birthday wishes!

Clear wrapping paper -- sounds like an oxymoron to me!  Maybe people use it like cellophane to cover those gift baskets of food and such?  Or maybe a layer of tissue paper is supposed to go under it?  Good thing you had some boxes!

A few minutes ago the sun was shining AND the rain was pelting against the windows.  Bizarre!

Happy Birthday to Willa. Sure can understand why you just picked the wrapping paper up without paying it much attention. Who is going to think they would be picking up clear wrapping paper.

Oh my gosh. Talk about not remembering names. Have to set the background a bit. My mom was one of a family of 18 kids. Most of the family was and is spread out across Canada from the east to the west coast. There are only 2 left, the 2 youngest of my Aunts. Both of them I've only seen a handful of times, the youngest I've seen the least and really have maybe only talked to her on the phone once. We don't exchange cards at all and did only for a short period of time, probably after my mom passed away. It's just hard to stay in touch with extended family, when you all live so far apart. They did have a few big family reunions and I was at two of those...2 of the times that I'd seen the both Aunts. I've seen and talked to the older of the two, a few more times. Well, my phone rings tonight and this woman says Hi Maureen and I just waited. You don't know who this is do you? I hesitated and then guessed Aunt Win....even though it sounded a bit too boisterous for her but the voice sounded something like hers. Nope not Aunt Win but the other of the two still alive she says. I'm so embarrassed as my brain just went blank as to what her name was, even though I know very well her name is Betty. She's 86 years old and has always said what she believes, with a few foul words to boot and boy does she get right on me about not even knowing her name. She really is a hoot. I spoke with her for an hour and a half and she constantly reminded me that I didn't even know her name. Who freaking forgets their Aunts name?!?!? I just have a brain that goes blank when I'm put on the spot and now I'm so freaking embarrassed. Oh my if my mother only knew her daughter forgot her sisters name.
