Chatting on Monday

So very very tired today.  So tired I'm a bit looney tunes here at work :)  Better than being grumpy I suppose....

There doing work upstairs in the building my company is in.  The hammering, sawing, power tool drilling that's going on is so loud and distracting.  It's been going on for a couple weeks now and hopefully they're close to done.

I get my hair chopped off tomorrow!  I cannot wait =)  I think super short hair is just for me and no more of this ridiculous "I'm going to grow it out." stuff.

In more randomness, I'm debating if I should try to fix my Oster clippers and buy a pair of good shears and groom Ari myself or take her to a groomers.  I've always brushed and bathed her (and trimmed her feet), but I really want her ears trimmed down and some of her feathers neatened.   Decisions, decisions.

Sending good thoughts for your dad's colonoscopy today too. I hope they find something easy to treat.

He won't have that til tomorrow -- that was a 'change' last night no one told me (My mother thinks it's against the law to call more than once a day)

The good news is his blood is "stabilized" -- apparently the transfusions were simply to up his red blood cells -- the way I got the story yesterday it sounded like some pretty massive internal bleeding which is not the case.  Mostly a lack of red blood cells (not good -- just different).

Ok ... I will make it thru to tomorrow anyway.

(((Hugs))) the waiting is the hardest part, whether it's for news about our dogs or our family.

I was talking to my BFF yesterday afternoon and she told me her husband was cooking a whole chicken for dinner. She mentioned that she'd just taken it of the freezer that morning and I told her I was surprised that it would be thawed out. It usually takes 2 days in my fridge for a whole chicken to thaw out. She said..."oh, he put it outside on the lanai to defrost and it's really hot here today". Ick!

Sharon, you've got my sympathy about the construction noise near your office.  We dealt with that a few months ago, and it was so irritating.  It's one thing to hear things like copy machines, keyboards, phones, voices, etc. -- but hammering and drilling is too hard to ignore!

Welcome back, Lisa!  Nice to "see" you!

Congrats, Deb -- it must've been exciting to watch your horse win, especially when he was such an underdog (or underhorse?).  Enjoy your winings!

Janice, I'm sorry you had that "revealing" experience -- how embarrassing!  It sounds like you were in good humor about it.  I think I would've cried!  Oh well -- it's a funny story you'll be able to tell for years (or your husband will tell it on your behalf, right?!).

Karen, leftover lasagna is even better than fresh baked.  I wish I could help you finish it.

Callie, still thinking good thoughts for your Dad, and I'm glad to hear that Charlie is out of surgery.  I'm sorry his vision recovery won't be as good as you'd hoped, but any improvement will be great for him.  Give him some ear rubs from me!

Yesteday we had gorgeous weather -- and this whole week is supposed to be nice.  Too bad Julie's conference wasn't this week instead of last.  I'm looking forward to needing my sunglasses all week!

Just checking in quickly. Anyone win big bucks on the Derby? Deb, are you getting your private yacht now?? :)

Also, PSA: if you don't vacuum for 4 weeks, your carpet will accumulate a disgusting amount of dog fur, even if your dog (and house) is very, very small. /housekeeping fail /clearly not a grownup!

With all this talk of salmonella in the Diamond dog food (my bag is recalled - GAH!) I cannot stomach the thought of leaving chicken outside.  Even under shade.  Gross.

I would not want to eat that chicken, and I'm pretty cool with eating most anything.  Though I did get food poisoning once and it was an experience I care not to repeat...

Yeah, the construction is getting old.  It's a small building.  It's us downstairs and upstairs is the Chamber of Commerce and the other space their remolding (the construction) will be roasting coffee beans for a local coffee shop that's expanding their operations.

Speaking of which, they're back to hammering right above my head.

I'm not usually a worry wart either but defrosting outside on a hot day?? C'mon! She said that she'd never had a problem getting sick before and I said "well, we drove a long time without seatbelts and didn't get hurt or killed, but it doesn't mean we don't use them now".  Hmm

We're supposed to reach the 90s today and when I took Shane for a walk this morning about 9:30, I could feel things starting to warm up. With his fur coat, he has no tolerance for heat, so we'll take another short walk this afternoon but none later when we get home. I'm happy to have a pal who shares my love of a cool room for sleeping. DH might've brushed me off but I know he'll be a softy when it comes to Shane's comfort. Yes

'cmon she's cray ZAY -- Florida is the freaking bacteria capital of the known steamy world.  UGH.  I don't even like fixing chicken in my own KITCHEN unless it's February here.

In fact, I've substantially gone off chicken since I've lived in good ole Florida!! -- and your friend is in Tampa, right??

Of all the things I've experienced in this life that I never want to do again food-poisoning is way up there.

First, what is a lanai? Second, actually there is no second. That's gross, and I don't need to know what a lanai is to figure that out.

I'm going to Ground Round tonight for my friend's birthday. I wish it could be dinner time already.

It's a screened in porch and yes Callie, she lives in Tampa. I actually had to say to her "let's not talk about it anymore" cause she kept laughing at me like I was being silly. I too have had food poisoning and thought I was going to die. I never want to experience that again. I'm still shaking my head at the idea of defrosting meat outside on a hot day. Huh?

    • Gold Top Dog

Either your friend's husband cooked that chicken to death and any bacteria colonies that had taken hold or they're both in the hospital learning about food safety 101.  I know people who leave meat out on the countertop all day to thaw. :( Unless their homes are kept at a crisp 48 degrees F they're risking food poisoning.  It's a good thing most of the harmful stuff is killed in the cooking process, if cooked properly.

    Thanks Tina. :)

10 days after a hysterectomy I ate steamed clams.  OMG!!  I can now be in the same room with them....OUT to eat, never at home...without wanting to barf.  And that was over 30 years ago!  I have never in my life been so ill and for someone who rarely upchucks it was just a major treat let me tell you.  Who on earth would defrost chicken outside in the heat...and then actually EAT it??  Blech.

The Diamond recall includes TOTW, 4Health, Canidae, Wellness and Solid Gold.  You won't find everything on the main recall page, but it's on the refund info page.  Typical freaking Diamond...admit to one when that plant has had multiple issues......

Callie, even tho Charlie won't have totally awesome vision, what a blessing to have SOME.  And, as for your dad, we're still keeping good thots and prayers headed his and your way....split thots and prayers which requires one heck of a lot of mind control...LOL!

Jan, I feel your pain.  Sharon, yours too.  Anyone else that I forgot, I'm sorry.  Senility might be setting in......

Off to try to finish cutting the grass.  Apparently, having a kidney stone, even teeny tiny ones that probably won't cause pain when they pass, precludes walking around behind a lawn mower.....

Callie glad to hear the news about your Dad is better.  Charlie we were hoping for better but seein anything is  better than nothin.  Do you get to bring him home tonight.   Will he have to wear a pirate patch???? cause I just know if he does it would be a perfect photo opp with Tink and her buddy :).   Lotzz of faireee dust for Pirate Charlie.

It has been very hot and humid in NWA.   About 3:00 this morning a cool front came thru and the weather this week is promising to be more like an Ozark spring.   The boys woke me up cause there was thunder in the distance but it went around us.

Was supposed to have dinner last night for 8-10 people...Ron and I worked most of the weekend preparing the yard and patio. These are things that we would be doing in the next few weeks as part of spring clean up, we just put it all into one weekend instead of several.   2 people showed up and they were an hour late...grrrrrrrrrrrrr  Ron's feelings were so hurt, it was family.  I was irritated to say the least.  We would have prepared the same meal for ourselves but in a smaller proportion and it's not like we are rich or anything.   The main thing was getting this part of the family together at the house for a few hours and they didnt show. They live the closest to us and they never seem to "make it" when we have family gatherings.  This time we thought well we will just do something for them without the rest of the family..... apparantly it doesnt matter.  The worst part is the fact that they didnt even call with an excuse and that is....ummmm No Excuse!  Then they wanted us to send home food????...uh I am sorry but if you dont have time to come see us...then get a job and buy your own dang food. Super Angry

Ok I am jumping down from the box now.

Cathy it sounds like Shane is the perfect little napping buddy :)  My sweet little Rocky was one pooped puppy last night as he stayed with me through every move I made over the weekend. :)  While I was locking up and getting ready for bed he seemed to be not in the area ... I found him....he was already in his "spot" and sleeping like a baby.
