Where do they sleep?

For now, Marley sleeps in a kennel about an arms length away from my side of the bed. I wanted him crate trained when he was a puppy (for his security, safety and my piece of mind) and although he *hated* it in the beginning, he loves his kennel now and feels the safest there if he isnt by me. I crate him anytime I am gone. He doesnt need the kennel anymore, but I dont feel like changing the routine right now. Keep it normal for him.

Whenever I go on vacations, he is allowed to sleep on the bed with me. Which he does and promptly sticks his legs straight out and into my back. When I move to Michigan, I will allow him to sleep out of the kennel and on the bed full time.

Charlie! Yes yes yes! ... Wait, what was the question?

Rupert sleeps in bed with me under the covers. He'll come up a couple of times per night and sleep with his head on a pillow and body under the covers. If one of the kids starts crying or yelling for me, he runs out and sleeps on the couch with snoring-like-a-bear DH.

Bugsy has a choice of beds and has some sort of rota to use all of them LOL

He mainly sleeps on a bed next to our bed (my side, DH would likely step on him), up until about month ago this bed was next to the wall facing our bed but for some reason he stopped sleeping there and would get off his bed and sleep in the spot I have now moved his bed to. Shrugs.

However - he may also sleep in his crate, or a bed he has on the ground floor, or in his most bizarre move he might go to our third floor (where my office is) on sleep on the bed up there. In the last couple of weeks he's been wandering at night which he also does from time to time.

He's been starting the night next to my side of the bed and then comes running from somewhere ( I think his crate) when he hears one of us get up.

Maze and Sandy sleep with me. The nights when Alex sleeps in here, Maze has an arm chair she sleeps on and Sandy is either under the blankets at me feet or curled up ontop of the blankets at my hip. When I'm by myself however, both dogs under the blankets. They're both crate trained but I don't use crates in the house any more. Not enough room. There are 3 dog beds in the living room as well as a couple cat beds. All dogs are loose when we leave since I trust my two with my cats. And Dipstick's too old to actually be a threat to the cats even if he were interested.

Jessie sleeps in our daughter's room, on a bed next to our daughter's bed. When we brought her home from the shelter, she started sleeping in bed with our daughter, but she's a large dog and the twin bed was pretty crowded.

Benny sleeps on the bed at DH's feet.

Finn sleeps on the floor on the dog bed or the chair next to my bed.  Usually a couple hours before it's time to get up he climbs into bed with me and curls up UNDER the covers.  This is especially nice when it's chilly, not so great when it's not, lol.

Chief is supposed to sleep on the chair next to the bed, but he usually ends up in bed between DH and I.

Max sleeps on the dog bed or at the top of the stairs.

Ginger sleeps in my dirty clothes basket at night, she has a bed but prefers my clothes, and in her dog bed in the living room during the day, new guy sleeps in his dog bed beside the head of my bed at night and curls up by my feet to sleep during the day. He has a dog bed in the living room as well but he prefers to be right beside my feet.

Very fun subject, loved reading. Gosh you guys sure spoil your dogs!!!!!! Wink

Gibby has a bunch of beds laying around. At night he sleeps on the oblong bed on the floor at the end of our bed. UNTIL around 5 AM when he comes to my side and paws at my covers...and then I pick up the covers and he slides in with his back ON me ( sometimes that boney spine hurts ) and I cover him up and we both go to sleep until about 7. He will NOT move once he is in bed except for if I back up a little...he backs up to so that he can remain almost laying on me.    During the day he is usually sleeping on one of two dog beds in our loft if we are upstairs ( DH watches TV up there ) or if we are downstairs he is usually curled up on the lounge chair.   When we leave, if its dark he goes on our bed, but if its light he MIGHT lay down on a blanket right in front of the kitchen window where he can watch for us to come home.

In bed with me of course, where else would my dog sleep? He can sleep in a crate though, and he did for the first few months. During the day if I'm going for more than a few minutes, he's in his crate. Sometimes if it's warm he'll go on the floor.  When he stays with other people, he's in the crate.

    Where ever she wants!

At night it depends on the temperature.  In the summer she'll start off in her bed (which is next to ours) and end up on the hardwood floor because she gets hot.  In the winter, she usually starts off curled up with us, then eventually goes to her bed when she gets too hot.  Sometimes she comes back in the morning.

During the day, she often sleeps on the couch.  But what she REALLY prefers is my (her? lol) recliner and she'll steal that any chance she gets.

Mine sleeps in his dog bed right next to my bed. I've let him sleep in my bed just a few times, one of which was during an ice storm when the power went out for a few days. He tends to curl up right behind my knees or at my feet, which makes it hard for me to move. He's just fine with his bed, though.

He also loves his crate, but would rather sleep in my room with me.

Layla usually sleeps between my husband and I, generally right up against my legs.  If our room gets too hot for her she will retreat to the guest bedroom bed or downstairs on the couch.  We can't keep a dog bed because she destroys them.  She has loved and used all her dog beds but shredded them also.  It got so bad we couldn't keep one a week, so we just gave up.  She slept with us at night anyway, using the dog bed when she was in the living room with us in the evening or when we were gone.

This is so fun!  I am so glad that our boys are not the only mistreated furr babies Stick out tongue

    Normal night

Both boys get yogurt treats, big production at bedtime.  Hot will lay in the living room on one side of my recliner and Rock on the other side until I am in it and down for the night.  At that time Hot goes to the bedroom where hubby is on the computer and lays right behind his chair.   When hubby goes to bed, Hot will lay at the end of the bed where he can hear me and see his daddy :)   Rock will often stay beside my recliner but sometime and especially in cooler weather I will find him in the "Big Dog Chair".

    Bad weather nights;

Both boys will sleep next to each other and as close to Hubby's bed as possible.  Occasionally Rock will try to climb up in my recliner with me.

Naps are usually taken on the front porch or in the plant room both are natural stone and usually the coolest places.

Oh, bummer she destroys them! I don't have any experience with dogs that demolish beds... mine has never been into chewing--unless it is edible.

Does she even destroy those beds that are meant to be super durable? Maybe ones made of canvas or denim? When I was looking into orthopedic dog beds for my little guy, I thought I saw ones that were supposed to withstand chewing. I was looking at L.L. Bean and Amazon, so hard to say where it was exactly. I believe L.L. Bean does have a lifetime guarantee, but don't quote me on it.

Since this is a bed thread... does anyone have any opinions, insight into orthopedic dog beds? (Hope this isn't hijacking the thread)

My boy will normally sleep with us, especially if it is chilly in the room but in the summer time he will start off on the bed, then hop later cause he is too hot and will go to his kennel.

There are times though that the bed is awfully small....his nibs like to sleep sidewaysConfused
