    Sleepy Sunday Chat

Good morning. Happy last day of your long weekend if you are having one (I'm not). My vacation comes the last two weekends of the month. Well, the third weekend I think will be fun. The fourth I will try to keep fun. Both are flyball weekends for us. Luke heads to his first out of region tournament in two weeks. We're going to MA. I'm hoping to catch up with a friend from school for a bit. The following weekend is Gettysburg, but it's with our team. The person I totally cannot stand isn't supposed to be there. If Luke runs really well, we should get disqualified from placement really fast. When you enter, you submit an approximate time for your team, so that you race teams close to you in time, and don't get blown away every race. If you go more than 1 second faster than the fastest time in your division, even if you win, it counts as a loss. If you do it 3 times, you get disqualified from placements. Just so that you can't submit too much of a slower time and try to win that way. So, you take the average times for your dogs, maybe subtract a little, and that's your time. The time the person who submitted our used was based on Luke running 6.9 seconds. Luke can run 6.0 when all perfect, 6.3 if not but he still catches. He has once gone 5.8 and 5.9, but by himself. But, he had a tournament in April where he ran horribly, like 7-8+ seconds, majorly bringing up his average. For the tournament, the top seed in the division is Luke's team, so the break out time is one second faster than our time. Luke can run almost 1 second fast than what it is based on, and is regularly .5 faster. If everyone is fast in the same heat, we're done. I think it would be really funny if we did. But, more importantly, I'm planning on the driving tour of the battlfield at night after the tournament.

I'm also looking forward to a long break from a client who I have been seeing a lot of since school got out. The parent is driving me crazy trying to get extra hours out of me. I always do as many extra as I can. I really do. However, I have to schedule all of my regular hours with everyone else before anyone gets extras. That's just how it is. You can't get seconds until everyone else has been offered firsts. I know everyone thinks they are more deserving, but it's only fair, and it's only how I can keep my job. Speaking of job, I need to do a bunch of paperwork so I can get paid.

One more vacation day for me. Yay.

I just took the dogs bike running. Neiko got the added bonus of fetching sticks in the lake. This little girl, probably 1 yo, and her dad came to watch neiko dive from the shore into the lake. Each time the little girl would squeal with laughter. It was the cutest thing ever. Those little toddler laughs are the best.

Now we are waiting for the rain to stop so we can go for a hike. The campground is bustling with everyone trying to pack up in the rain. It is nice to just sit here andwatch the world go by knowing we have one more day of rrrelaxation :)

Is your little camper one of those teardrop ones? It looked like it in the picture you posted. I love the size--just enough room for the essentials. The little girl must have loved watching Neiko--what a great intro to the fun dogs can have!

It's hot here, but I think it's a couple degrees cooler than yesterday. I need to get in the garden, but that may wait another day. Round 2 of the beets are up, so we are keeping those watered. (I planted seeds--they're so fragile to start, but they grow quickly!) The onions are just starting to die back--that's a good thing. When they're completely died back, I'll harvest. And, the garlic and potatoes will be ready soon, too! Yeah!  Next weekend, I am going to cook/grill dinner for my parents' anniversary (I think it's #56). I'll dig some new potatoes for that :-)

Not much else here--hugs for all who need them. And, Happy Belated Gotcha Day, Tink!!

Up early here and it's another gorgeous morning. The 1st few days after we moved in, it was so hot that we kept all the blinds down. Now that it's cooler, I have them all up and can really enjoy the park-like backyard. The pool co. will be here tomorrow to drain the pool and I think the replaster starts on Thurs. I can't wait for that to be done.

I watched Hope Springs last night and really enjoyed it but stayed up later than usual so I'll probably need a nap later. I'm off to the grocery store to get that out of the way. I think there's a farmer's market near here on Sundays, so I may see if I can find that. Shane would probably be a pain too, so I'll wait to try that out.

I thought I found a tick on him the other day so I put his tick collar on. Like Tracy, we don't have any trouble with mosquitoes but now that we're living closer to the lake, I'll be more worried about ticks.

Yeah it is kind of like a tear drop camper but it is more versatile. It has a ramp door in the back instead of a kitchen that the tear drops have so you can haul toys and stuff inside. The flooring is like a toy hauler but I put some indoor/outdoor carpet down. I used the AC last night and Omg it felt so good! Never thought I would appreciate ac on a camping trip. I feel like a traitor but wouldn't give it up heh. (I've used the microwave too and it's really handy! My brother gave me crap though, said I was crossing the line. ;p

Enjoy the last day of camping, Julie!  I love watching little kids laugh at dogs fetching or doing tricks.  Those cute toddler laughs really are the best. :)  I read something on the AVMA's FB page the other day about Australian Vets wanting to outlaw or ban throwing sticks for dogs.  Really?  Lets just wrap them all in bubble wrap and keep them indoors 24/7 so they'll never face any risks.  Most Vets on that page thought it was ridiculous.

I didn't sleep much last night. I'm feeling pretty zombie like but have too much to do to veg out today.

Kate, I can't wrap my mind around you just now planting some things.  Amazing the difference in climate.

I'm going to hit a farmers market soon to pick up some melons.

DH was watching Wimbledon until I reminded him that the lawn mowing will be worse the hotter the day gets.

    Oh gosh yes they are!

    Julie it all sounds wonderful!!

Kate! Take it easy gardening and it is remarkable the difference in growing season.

    DH was watching Wimbledon

another eh match. Looks like an easy win for Murray as Djokavic just doesn't seem all that interested - they say he's struggling due to a long semifinal match. Whatever. DH will be thrilled for a Murray win

It was a GORGEOUS morning - we have had better mornings but not in recent memory LOL First sunrise I can recall in ages. There was a nice breeze and it was not so humid you couldn't see out the windows. I sat outside near the fountain reading the newspaper and taking it all in.

Its hot now but ah well, I enjoyed my morning coffee. B decided it was very nice too and ran crazy zoomies - I caught the last part and put it on YouTube/FB.

I need to get going though, I need to clean up and get things ready for a friend who is coming by later. I need to figure out what to serve too

Taking some vacation time next week, and going to visit a BIL. He just retired to the little town of Enderline, ND. The town was named because it was the end of the train line. Literally, , the end of the line. Interesting choice for a retirement home. I spent a few weeks there years ago, remodeling their local Ben Franklin Store. They had their homecoming parade-I was the audience. Small town and everybody else was either working or in the parade. Nice town, good people.

Piper seems to be doing okay. Even trotting on our morning walks. No apparent pain from the arthritis. Be a few days before the bp meds kick in. I don't know if I can spoil her any more, without giving up my own bed.

For those who haven't tried it, internet shopping can be really great. I needed a new front axel for my lawn tractor. I ordered it on Monday and it showed up in my garage on Wednesday, and the price was right. My wife has invited some of her highschool friends (I was going to call them her "old friends", cause that fits too) to admire her gardens and maybe drink some wine, so lawn care has become important.

The Robins nesting in my hedge are ready to fledge. They watch me closely when I am out, but seem to be losing their fear. Then the dog shows up.

How do you reset a dogs internal clock. This 5:30 alarm bark has to stop.

Wow, Doug -- that does sound like a small town!  What's the population?  DH's sisters live in small towns in Wyoming -- both under 3,000 people, I think.  It's interesting your BIL's town refers to the parade as "homecoming" --- my guess is most people who manage to leave there probably don't come back very often!  I know small towns have their appeal, but when I hear things my SIL's say (e.g., "We can't get the variety of fresh produce like this in OUR grocery store!";), I just can't imagine living somewhere so tiny.  Visiting would be nice, however.  Enjoy your trip!

Julie, the only kind of camping I'd consider would include A/C and a microwave!  Wink

Well, another gorgeous day here.  My friend is on her way here for a walk.  We'll take Ruby with us and see if we can get through the 2-mile route without any stressful encounters.  I've got my pocket loaded with treats!

Oh, Kate --- early happy anniversary wishes for your parents.  That's great!

So nuts! And we see the same thing with kids.

Karen, the third set of the men's Wimbledon was good! (I missed the first set.) I love the longer points you see on grass courts, and some of them were 20-25 strokes today.

I never did figure out the planting season in South Texas when I lived there. I do like being able to put a second harvest in in early-mid July here. (I've tried a later planting for the late fall up here, too, but you just never know when it's going to get cold.)

Mozey thinks we're going to have a rain storm--I wish! But, that means she's on potty strike again. Ugh!

That's about where I am, too!  How was Ruby on the walk? I'll pass on the good wishes to Mom and Dad.

Outlawing the throwing of sticks is ridiculous.  Not only would it be impossible to enforce, but to remove 100% of the risk, you'd have to outlaw the throwing of any and all toys similar to a "stick shape."

Ruby was pretty good on the walk, Kate.  We only passed two other people walking dogs.  One was a Jack Russell on a flexi-lead.  We stayed on the other side of the street, and the woman shortened up the leash, so we got by with only a few whines and some pulling.  The other dog we saw is a young Husky or Malamute (I always mix them up).  A young guy walks him/her, and we've seen them before.  The dog is so pretty and seems friendly, but he/she does what Ruby does:  pulling and trying to jump (no noise, though).  Ruby met the dog up-close once when DH was walking her and he thought they'd be similar playmates, but we just said hello and kept walking.  It was quite warm, so after the first mile she lost some of her pull!

I'm really enjoying the cooler weather.  Not that the 90s is really "cool" but when it was 110, the 90s is good.

I was going to send DS #2 on a food (pizza?) run, but he said he'd just eat some leftovers from last night.  DS #1 came over earlier with tomatoes from his garden, so I made a cream cheese, tomato and pickle sandwich for myself.  Yum! I couldn't help but notice that when #2 starts  the dishwasher, he unloads it and puts everything away when it stops ... unlike his mom who sometimes doesn't get around to unloading it for three days and thus winds up with a sink full of dirty dishes  because there's no room in the dishwasher. Tongue Tied
