Mindless Wednesday

    Mindless Wednesday

My road bike is still out of commission. I should have fixed it yesterday. My only option is to ride my Mtn bike in which doesn't seem right. This is my last day of work until next Tues. Wohoo. I kind of wish I was staying home just to veg.

My boss hasn't said anything about giving us Friday off. Usually he doesn't but in the past I've usually used a vacation day.  Unfortunately the 5th is our "report day" and I really don't like my chances of getting *everything* done today.

The idiot drivers were out today.  As I was coming off the "off" ramp this morning (which has 3" high curbing on both sides) some son-of-a-female-dog decided to make two lanes out of the ONE I was in the middle of.  I don't intimidate easily and I hope my resistance made his latte sour!

I've decided that my foggy head is likely due to allergies/asthma and this blasted weather. I am going to up my allergy meds and see if that helps

Still a rainy forecast today. The neighbor's rain gauge was reading just shy of 5 inches - I am hoping that was from the last two days and not just yesterday

B & I saw a lone deer ambling in the 'hood this morning. I thought that was odd. Usually its a minimum of three and they skedaddle quickly. This one wasn't fast even when it did decide to take off. Seemed odd

My sister's friend adopted a 1 yr old GSP. She's a smart woman and her husband is too but I sure hope they know what they are doing. They have 3 young boys (3-7 in age I think). I need to type up some suggestions for them.

Tomorrow has turned into a busy day - fun stuff (hopefully) and better if it doesn't rain!

    OK best get something done

    Joyce you are amazing!

I've got a foggy head too but mine's from a cold.  I went to bed at 8 last night and slept till the alarm went off.

We're working on Friday but it will be nice to have tomorrow off.  I plan to sleep late (haha) and then nap.

It's been nice here with low humidity and temps in the low 90's.  Nice weather for us at this time of year.

From yesterday, Tracy wrote: DH had a friend who thought Huey Lewis was singing, "I want a new truck" (not DRUG).  I was this person, too. Singing along in gym class and having 2 girlfriends tell me very loudly I had it wrong was pretty embarrassing. I was glad when albums started coming with lyrics sheets included. LOL

Supposed to be off Friday, but I may sneak in a work a few hours when nobody is around. The first two weeks of the month are the hardest for me to take time off due to the volume of work and deadlines. I know I will never get all my crap done today.

I figured I'd let the snake have several days to move, which it seemed to have done, so I just finished mowing that section. OK, they're useful but they really need to make sure I don't see them. Now, I need to re-mow everything else.

I need to work in the garden, too--the weeds have loved the rain and humidity--and now, we're supposed to get heat. The veggies do seem to be doing OK, too. I want to dig up the 'taters, but it's not time, so I'm trying to be patient. (There are new potatoes that I could harvest. Does anyone else call them pig potatoes (from when they let the pigs in the field after they harvested the big ones? I think that must be from my youth in PA--or I made it up.)

    I should be grading papers...

Edited to fix some really bad typos! And, to think...no beer was involved!

Oooh, that would be embarrassing, Tina!  A morning radio DJ on a station I listened to told a story of when he was in a band in college.  One night they decided to add the song "Driver's Seat" by Sniff 'n the Tears to their performance.  Not knowing the song by its title, he kept singing "Travesty" instead of "Driver's Seat."  The whole band was glaring at him in the middle of the show.  He hoped no one in the audience picked up on it since the other guys were singing it correctly.

The first 10 days of the month are my busiest at work, too.  I often come to work on the 5th, but I'm really hoping not to this year.  We'll see how much I get done today.  If I'm home Friday, then Monday will be much busier, but a 4-day weekend sure would be nice.

Your friends will have their hands full with a young GSP, Karen.  Are they experienced dog owners?  DH was on a fishing trip last week and the guides have GSPs.  They have a very elderly one, but she's rather immobile now and stays off the boats.  This year DH met their new pup, named Tick (what a bad name, right?!).  She was super friendly he said, and she was excellent on the boat.  It's a dog's dream life there (the guides live there all summer) -- a beautiful camp along the Snake River, lots of people to meet, water, trails, etc.

Whew - busy day here again but I think I'm making progress. I'm off for 5 days and soooooo looking forward to it. Now that we 3 times the area we did before, I'm having a heck of a time keeping up with the weed pulling. Nothing was done for a few weeks and with the heat, I've only been able to work out there for an hour or so in the evening. I'm hoping with the days off and being able to start in the early AM, I can get a handle on them. HB is hosting a mid-day bbq tomorrow, so I might pop out there for that. We don't have any other plans and wouldn't leave Shane on the 4th anyway, so it'll be low key. The Folsom rodeo starts today and runs thru Sunday and they set fireworks off every night. It's not more than a few miles from us, so I hope it won't be a problem.

DH met 2 of the neighbors yesterday and said both were very nice retired guys and each had lived there for over 30 yrs. One of the guys had a female BC that Shane enjoyed playing with. One of the guys said they'd been watching us move stuff over for weeks and wondered if we were ever actually moving in - LOL!!

Cathy, the neighbor guy's comment about wondering if you were ever going to actually move in cracked me up. It's good that Shane made a new doggie friend. :)  I hope the 4th fireworks don't bother him.  Twister was so terrified of the fireworks.  I can't believe it's been six months since I lost him.

I cannot wait for this day to end.  The afternoon has dragged on and on. Thirty minutes to go and I do think the hands of the clock have stopped moving.

(((Hugs))) I have wandered around our new backyard and thought how much Buffy and Sassy would've loved it and it makes me sad. It gets better with time and then seems to reach a point where there's just always going to be a lingering sadness. It's been a brutal 2 days here at work for me and I found out that the person who covers Fridays and Mondays will be off on Friday and might be on jury duty next week. That was not the news I needed to hear. I'll cover phones and emails from home Friday but I'm not coming in.

It's my day off after almost 10 day stretch at work....And I spent this morning at the vet (made a post under the health section). This afternoon Alex and I spent some much needed alone time together, went out for lunch, picked up the new stove and just talked.. It was nice.. Now I'm curled up with Dodger, thinking about a nap..

It never ceases to amaze me the things we remember them by -- good and not-so-good.  There's a little Greek place near and their potato salad is "different" and I normally hate potato salad but like theirs.  But it's always "too much" so I'd take it home and add it to cooked dog food (potato, greek yogurt and dill mostly).  My old Foxy (the corgi/sheltie mix) LOVED that tater salad SO much -- if we came home after eating lunch at Athena, Foxy would nail me coming in the door with that "DO I GET SOME?" look.  It was only for *that* -- and to this day I can't eat it without thinking of him (and sniffing so many years later).  with Charlie and the "hating water falling from the sky" -- trust me -- that will memorialize rain for both of us forever and ever.  Twister -- we *all* remember you by this!!

I was working so hard today -- I never had a chance to breathe but I got the reports done so I don't have to go in on Friday.  It was not a fun day but it is o-v-e-r!

I'm so tired of  this blasted heat wave.  They've been suggesting we wait until about 7 p.m. or so to turn anything on, but when it hits 85 inside, sorry but I'm turning the ac on.  It's set high anyway (78) so it shouldn't have to run too long to cool down.

The Bay Area is a total mess, even though it's probably 25 degrees cooler than the valley.  That BART strike has put 60,000 more cars on the road than usual and it's a flippin' traffic nightmare. Yesterday an 18 wheeler hit one of the toll booths on the Golden Gate Bridge and that must have really added to the snarl.

Have a great 4th. of July, everyone!
