Sunny Saturday Chat

    Sunny Saturday Chat

We've got a few clouds and that's helping keep us cooler for the yard work.  DH is outside trimming the honeysuckle.  Last time I looked, he had it hacked up with huge holes here and there.  Good thing it grows so fast and will be back to normal in a week.  I stand guard with the tennis racket bug zapper to protect him from wasps. I already trimmed and mowed the back yard so only the front yard to trim.

I'm off the to Tattoo Expo today.  I have to be down there a little before noon to help set up.  DH is going to drop me off because I see no point in paying for parking downtown if I don't have to and he's got no plans.  The volunteers for this non profit dog group were told not to wear open toed shoes and the shoes had to be black or very dark.  We have our tee shirts (black with the group logo) and are supposed to wear dark pants or dark jeans. We were reprimanded for wearing white tennis shoes last week when the chairman of the board saw a pic posted on their FB page.   I saw a picture of the volunteers who were there yesterday.  Two had on purple party hats with streamers and two had on khaki shorts.  lol

Hope everyone has a good day.  Vibes for those who need them.

Jackie - DH has the same pruning style with our Honeysuckle. The 1st few times I panicked when I saw the hack job but then realized it does grow back super fast. Have fun at your event today and be sure you're dressed appropriately. If you have a tattoo, does it have to also meet the color requirements? ;)

A lot to do today. Cleaning and yet more packing. There's talk of some clouds rolling in tomorrow. Since it'll be the biggest moving day so far, I hope it's just clouds and no rain. It'll be much cooler than today's mid-90s, so I'm thankful for that. I hope everyone has a great day.

I hope the weather is cooler with no rain for the big moving day tomorrow, Cathy.  I know you've got to be ready for all the moving to be done!  No tats for me of any color. :)

I was just outside watering my flowers.  A young hummingbird was hovering less than two feet from my face.  It seemed curious and without fear.  I thought it might want to feed on the flowers I was watering so I moved away to some other flowers.  It followed me and kept pace as I moved from plant to plant.  I think it was curious about the water and about the big giant monster with water coming from it's appendage. lol  The whole experience was extremely cool.

The flooding in Canada is awful.  The fires in the SW just as terrible.  I feel so fortunate to rarely have to deal with that kind of thing.

Wow, seems like I haven't been on here in years. I hope everyone is doing OK.

They came and took my old car away today (tear sliding down cheek). It was a 2001 and had major suspension issues that were going to cost big $$ to fix. We have actually been making it work with one car for almost a year, but it's time. We are picking up a new, loaded Buick Lacrosse either Monday or Tuesday. We got a good deal, but we haven't had a car payment in years so that will be an adjustment.

We took the opportunity to completely clean out the garage today. It looks so nice and clean!! We have a wedding this evening so that should be fun!

flatter than a pancake today - not done much and honestly I don't see much happening. I had grand plans to take down the yard (add 15 inches of rain, warm weather and a bit of sun and you may never see your home again!) but its misting on and off with showers. Bah humbug!

Being completely mindless I want DH to make B a paracord collar and I can't decide what colors to choose. I also need to research a clasp that will hold him so I may actual go out to a hardware store. After a nap I believe Sleep

Karen - can you get the clasp at REI? I remember going with DH to buy some firefighting/climbing gear and they had everything from clasps to paracords. seems like it'd be more fun than a hardware store.

Speaking of fun shopping - I went to Home Goods yesterday and bought a few things for the new house. Mostly just things to organize cupboards or drawers but it was still fun. I'm not buying anything decorative until we're in and settled. I am going to need to hustle to find something for the master bdrm slider and window. The owner didn't seem to have ever had anything there and although the house backs up to a greenbelt but I'm not sleeping in a fishbowl. We'll probably be tacky and use sheets until I figure out what I want :).

I talked to my friend yesterday and her MIL ended up back in the hospital with a very low HR but high BP. They've booked her flight for this Wed. and I think my friend is prepared to take her from the hospital straight to the airport LOL!!

Cathy I love REI but I am not sure what clasp I am going to use. Thus I truly need to go to a proper hardware store and see what they have. I can't use the standard plastic clips as Bugsy pops those open :(

I did take a nap and felt much better for it.

Enjoying a nice evening at home with my boys, Bugsy 'guards' the grill while DH cooks. Makes me smile. Steak, grilled squash and some hearty bread rubbed with garlic and olive oil then grilled :) And a lovely red wine someone gave us that we saved.

I have no energy today, but I did manage to do a slight bit of yardwork early this morning. I have been grading, too.

Karen, try the carabiners that mountain/rock climbers use--they hold!

Dinner is simple tonight--a porkchop and some broccoli.

I'm home from the tattoo expo.  We got some pretty good donations for the retired military working dogs. :)  It didn't hurt that most of the people attending the expo had cash on them. :)  It's odd how tired I am after basically doing nothing  all day but talk and sit.   We had free hand stamps for kids and those were a big hit.  While the kids were getting their hands stamped with paw prints we could talk to the parents about our organization.  I'm not shy so I talked to anyone who slowed down in front of our table. lol   I met some dog handlers that will graduate next month from Lackland AFB's dog training program.  They looked like they couldn't possibly be old enough to serve our country.

I've no idea what we're having for dinner.  A pork chop and broccoli sounds good but I don't have either in the house. :( I had a squished peanut butter sandwich for lunch and I'm starving.

We may skip dinner tonight. Our neighbor threw a huge surprise 50th birthday party for her DH today at a park in town. He survived a heart attack last winter, so she went all out --- catered food from a place that brought a smoker and had beef and pulled pork, all the trimmings, and a giant tower of cupcakes. She hired a DJ and everything. She said it cost more than their wedding! He was totally surprised. Even the paramedics who saved him were there. It was great. But boy, are we full!

Jackie as I'm typing this, two hummingbirds are nearly dive-bombing me as they zoom around the feeder, trying to scare each other off. Did you have bright colored shirt on when the one was following you? I've had that happen. They can be fearless!

I understand feeling a bit sad when you say goodbye to a car you've had a long time, Lisa. But once you're in that new one, it's easier to forget the old one. It does stink having car payments, though. I've not had one for 7-8 years. Knock wood, I hope my car keeps behaving for a few more years!

No, no bright colored shirt on at the time but I've had that happen too.  From the size and appearance, I do think this was a young bird who was curious about me and the water spray.  It wasn't dive bombing me.  It would go from plant to plant with me and perch on a stem and watch me and the water intently.  Sometimes it would hover near me or the water spray.  They have water in our yard so I don't think it was thirsty. It was very cool whatever the reason for it's behavior.

I'm going to chuck my friend's phone on the ground or something. She went to sleep, and her mother is incessantly texting her. She's an adult. Stop. Just stop. That's all.

Ok -- I admit it -- I *knew* Jackie had been to a tattoo expo ... but .. she got followed??  fearless??   whoa ...  "size and appearance" -- musta been SOME big honkin tattoo ....

     "bird" .... huh??  bird .... ?????? .... HUMMINGIBRD???

Ok ... I'm awake now.   Jackie I'm really glad you weren't stakled at the tattoo convention.  I'm really glad you had the right shirt on.  oh boy ... you had me really scared there for a minute LOL   I won't tell you how many times I had to read the word "bird" before I caught on to that one.
