Our trip to the vet by Bugsy

Upon arriving in the parking lot he spotted a very young puppy - who I asked if he could meet. It was love at first sight. This little thing had come from a rural shelter and as a guess was a beagle/hound mix. Very happy, fairly confident (although did give B a whoa you are a big'un look) and just adorable!!

Once inside they had several people waiting with their dogs in the tiny waiting area so as soon as they saw Bugsy aka Captain Chaos arrive they sent us to a room LOL. He has this ability to convince anxious, relaxed, and well-behaved dogs that the waiting area is like doggie daycare so they always send us to a room to prevent chaos.

Happily the two lumps we were there for were indeed sebaceous cysts - while being attended to, he was his usually happy, kissing self. Then as I spoke to the vet he clearly decided it was more fun outside the room so he opened the door! Surprise He had a leash on so I stopped him from leaving but the vet was hysterical.

When we did leave the room the waiting area had even more dogs. Notable were two worried looking ones, a young pit mix who recognized a fun guy when he saw Bugsy and the mini-pup. Its just remarkable how just his presence can cause trouble LOL. I put him in the car prior to coming back to pay.

One of the anxious dogs was a flat coat retriever - not a small dog at all. So imagine how amused we all were when the mini-pup approached this 60+ lb dog and the dog tried to hide under a bench LOL The puppy was like come on let's play and the flat coat look frightened (not to the point of considering snapping or other aggressive behavior) just super timid.

Anyway it was an amusing visit.

Lastly I was talking about his recovery and said I think his weight looks good, the vet responded by saying, "don't let him lose any more weight, he'll look sick" Clearly I have reached the perfect weight for him Wink

Captain Chaos -- oh my ...

Bugsy -- Mom just does NOT get it -- here you are, the absolute PERFECT Recreation Director and Mom calls you "Captain Chaos"?? I mean ... for real ... here you put this newbie puppy totally at ease and they have to stop ALL the fun??

I mean on a cruise they pay Recreation Director's BIG bucks ... and they just putcha in a room? Your talent -- your savoir faire --- your ... sheer BUGSY-ness .... humans are just SO .... UN-fun sometimes you know?? Carpe Diem!!! Seize the Waiting Room!!!!

p.s. -- Karen I'm glad they were pretty well nothing ... and now you can let that "hot rock" that's been sitting in your stomach go away. and really .... there is just about NO higher compliment that a vet can pay you than telling you that your dog is the correct weight! Holy Vindication, Bathman!!

hahahaha too funny Callie! He is certainly a natural recreation causer :)

I wasn't worried about these two lumps - one I knew he had for ages - a couple of years as a guess - a vet that changed practices had felt it and looked at it and said sebaceous cyst, the other one I presumed was similar. You can't actually see anything because his very short fur is so dense you can't see the skin! She has me with a furrowed brow when she clearly wasn't too sure of the newer lump. But its all good. I had them checked because he was nibbling in those areas last week and he has never paid any notice to them

As for the weight, for Bugsy its more a fitness thing than a weight thing if that makes sense. He had lost a ton of muscle since last August when all this started and he has regained much of it. His healthy range has always been 104-107, he's at 104 now and the left shoulder area is about halfway back I would guess.

When I look at your signature pic of him it always makes me laugh - he fits his skin like a horse does - far more than a "dog" if that makes sense. Most breeds have extra skin -- but with Bugsy there's no "extra" -- it's just all muscle with the skin stretched tight. You'd think his skin was spandex!!! It just plain "fits". And it's all muscle.

Karen, your description was priceless -- I can just picture it!  I've got a little bit of a Marmaduke cartoon image in my head.  Bugsy's like one of those people who walk into a party or gathering and instantly there's a spark of new energy and a "fun vibe" going in all directions.

Glad the lumps were nothing to worry about.

Callie, your description of B's skin stretched tight over muscle is just like how Ruby looks, too.  We're always saying she's bone, muscle, and fur.  No need for Botox or Juvederm on her body --- no sagging anywhere!  Very different from how Tonka's skin was.  He had lots of loose folds that we could pull away from his body.  When he was a puppy it looked like he was wearing a dog coat that was too big for him!

    Edited a couple inexcusable typos!

Great description, although Bugsy has some slack around his neck.

And yes Tracy he is the person that brings the party with him, I do wish sometimes he didn't but its better than bringing a fight LOL

Good boy, Bugsy!  Except for that door opening thing.  lol  He's such a character. :)

Life with Bugsy sure sounds fun!  So glad your handsome fella is OK.

That would have been Mick.  He had a bad experience with my parents' first JRT when he was at the height of his fear period (dang dog flew out of the motor home and attacked Mick in our own front yard).

He was nosing the doorknob ( standard round type, inward opening door) but I didn't think he'd open it

Oh, yee of little faith!  LOL

Bugsy, you sure know how to make life fun!  Even on a vet trip?  Wow, atta boy!  LOL

Loved reading about this, only a few dogs, like Bugsy, could pull this off and give all of us a smile about a VET trip!

Bugsy, there's never a dull moment with you around is there?! Stick out tongue  Poor timid flat coat, that flat coat should meet mine - Ari thinks going to the vet is the greatest, but she is super social.

I can't believe he opened the door though!  Such a stinker hehe.

Okay, Bugsy and Tar would get along way too well. Tar is such a goober at the vet. Actually, he's like that anytime I take him anywhere. He's my one dog who I can't take in public, and even getting him into the car and settled is an ordeal because I have to pull over at least twice, as he's prone to "OMG I'm in the car. This is the perfect time to poo! Wait, I can't poo in the car so I'll bark and fling slobber instead!!!!" Never a dull moment.

    That would have been Mick.

    Poor Mick!

I was thinking of Ari Sharon, I really felt bad for that flat coat. I mean she wasn't deathly afraid but this was such a cute little pup.

And yes Bugsy could find something to do in a rubber room. I think what cracks me up the most is he still finds ways to surprise me - he has opened doors before but not inward opening doors with round doorknobs! The first visit to the surgeon's office he decided to join me as I got a drink from the water fountain Indifferent

He loves to go anywhere that has dogs and/or people. He has been through enough now that he doesn't like to go off with the techs or vets but he does and comes back happy. I think its hysterical that no tech or vet has been able to remain completely serious around him. They submit, laugh, & comply with getting kissed. And shake their heads.

Marlania - after I gave up on a sedan and had either a wagon or SUV with a gate across the back, he's been fine in the car, in fact excellent.

Bugsy, you are such a good boy who just likes to make sure everyone enjoys the party!
