cicada eating!

 Fortunately the invasion hasn't hit here because my dog loves them too - they are perfectly fine to eat. I would limit her as much as possible.

I asked my vet and he said its fine, just protein 

also on wikipedia I learned that in certain parts of the world they are considered a delicacy. 

Personally when the dog crunches them I feel nauseous!

 I'm with you, when I hear the dogs crunching bugs, ick!  We don't have those cicadas here in RI, at least not so far as I know.

Just the other day, DH wondered aloud if dogs would eat cicadas (we don't have them here).  I'm 99% sure Ruby would try, since she tries to eat other bugs she sees (she's even caught flying insects in mid air!).  I think if I heard crunching, I'd be totally grossed out.

The comment of them being protein reminds me of a story I heard on the radio the other day.  There's a movement (probably a small one) to encourage people to eat more insects like the do in some parts of the world.  The story said they're an easier and less expensive source of protein to farm/raise for huge populations, compared to cattle, poultry, etc. 

I don't know ----- even if they were covered in the finest chocolate, I'd have trouble eating one!

At first Bugsy just thought they were a great toy and would 'play' with them until they stopped buzzing. Then one day he ate it. I nearly collapsed at the crunch LOL

He'd eaten other bugs but nothing the size of a cicada and for what its worth he will only eat one that is alive when he finds it. 

Sandy we have some cicadas every year here - I was in central Virginia yesterday and they are deafening

Yikes -- that is loud!  I heard a crunch sound in the last couple seconds of the video.  I thought maybe they were all over the ground and you couldn't avoid stepping on them, but then I decided it was probably just leaves you were stepping on (that's what I'd rather imagine)!
