    Mindless Wednesday

I sooooooo don't want to go to work today. It is rainy and icky and curling upwith a book would make me bblissfully happy. Too bad we don't get endless days off. I made hot pink frosted cupcakes with sprinkles for a friend on my sar team for her bday today. The hot pink spirnkles fit her personality perfectly. I need to take the other half of the batch to work to I don't eat them all. I'm on the hunt for a devil dog charm for the bloodhound puppy in the group. She is the cutest thing ever but definitely a monster puppy. over the weekend when we turned our backs she jumped up on all 4s on to the kitchen table. I died laughing. She is always causing mischief. she is one big bulldozer

I have a business lunch in the city today, but it's so hot and humid that I already feel like a drowned rat.  Not to mention how nice my hair looks when it's humid.Confused

We had a pretty crazy lightening show last night, complete with downpours. The lightening was so bright, it kept waking me up. That and the cat who insists on walking all over me at 3am.

I found out today that my friend (who was my coworker - she recently quit) threw me under the bus, so to speak, on numerous occasions.  Things I told her in confidence, was told to my boss.  Some of it was deeply personal (like my issues with depression, anxiety/panic attacks) and was told outside of work hours, because like I said we're (maybe were...) friends.  It didn't hurt my standing with my boss, but still.  Not too mention other things that are coming to light that I won't get into about both my former coworkers, who I considered friends.  Not sure at the moment how I feel about all this.

But enough depressing stuff, since stepping into the office management role work has been really good. My boss and I still have a good report and I love what I'm learning and I'm back up to full time!  Also, I leave Friday for my cruise Stick out tongue Our snorkeling gear arrived in time (phew), fits and is undamaged. I cannot wait to kick back and spend some quality time with my significant other.

I need to seriously figure out how to fix my a/c. There is a ghetto repair that can be done in about 30 minutes with 3 breadclips and some glue, but I have no clue what I am looking for.

I had a client bitching at me this morning because I didn't go to a meeting that I was only informed about the morning of said meeting. So she claims, they would have cancelled it if they knew I wasn't coming. Um.. not my fault. When I didn't reply to the email and say if I could come, asking me would have been a great idea. Not my fault someone got my email address wrong. Not my fault that the person responsible for coordinating this stuff didn't coordinate with me. Not my fault if she now has to come out just to see me because she didn't do her job. Although, I would have liked to have been there to tell a coworker she is a complete idiot. She can't figure out a very simple data collection method, so she apparently decided that we were going to do it the way we had been. That's fine and dandy, but it's not correct, and it's redundant. I'm also not responsible for whether or not the data is any good, which is also the job of the person who didn't bother to make sure I knew about the meeting. When it is my job, I make sure it's done properly.

I cleaned the inside of my car this morning. Didn't bother with the outside since it's going to rain sometime. At least now I have space to pack for my trip next week. It would be nice if the previously mentioned client could go on vacation for a week. Well, at some point I think he'll go to camp for a week. I could use a break from that one.

Sharon, she doesn't sound like much of a friend.

Yay for getting your snorkeling gear for your upcoming trip!  I'm sorry you found out that your friend wasn't really a friend.  I've learned the hard way that mixing friendship and work can be a very dicey proposition.  :(   I try not to share personal information with anyone at work, even my one coworker who I do consider a friend.  He's a guy so he doesn't usually care about personal stuff unless it's about him.  Wink

I only shared that after a year of friendship with her.  After my trip me and her will have a little chat.  I'd hate to end a nearly two year friendship without at least confronting her about the situation.  I've had fairly good experience with friendships resulting from the workplace in the past (only way I meet people anyways lol)  But, lesson learned.

Julie, I bet that bloodhound puppy is adorable!

Sharon, that's too bad about your coworker/friend's betrayal.  I understand the risks of mixing work and personal relationships and have tried to tread carefully, but like you, the vast majority of friends I've made once out of school were at work.  It's one of the primary places we spend our time, so it's a source of new friendships.  For 9 years here, I only had one coworker, so we tended to share too much info with each other, simply because there was no one else to talk to.  Since they laid her off, we've remained friends and try to get together regularly, but now I have no one to talk to at work but myself!

I deal with hair woes when it's humid, too.  The rain here causes frizz, but it's less of a problem here than it was in CT since the temps are usually cold here when it's wet outside.  It's warm moist air that does the most damage (no matter what kind of hair products I use), so I often had "big hair" when I lived in New England.  Here it's a little less big!

Speaking of weather, I knew we'd pay for the 3 week of warm, dry, sunny weather we had earlier.  It's been grey, rainy, and cold.  Only 40 when I got up this morning, and snowfall expected on the passes into central Oregon.  Poor Ruby hates walking in cold rain (as do we).

For your own closure DO confront her but don't expect understanding.  I have something like this in my history and it tore my life apart -- all because of her gossip and judgment.  I only wish I could have confronted her -- it would have been better for me in the long run.  This will change how you relate to people and friends.  It's very difficult when you're trying to be a "friend" and listen and help to realize that at some point she could be weeping on someone ELSE'S shoulder making mincemeat out of you.  You are fortunate you have a good relationship with your boss.  Keep protecting your back tho.

It's super windy today and usually that's enough to turn DH off on riding his bike but he said he wanted to go today. On the news this morning, they said there'd been a grass fire at some part of the bike trail, along the river, but I didn't pay attention to where. I've spent the last 20-30 minutes listening to many fire trucks screaming by and couldn't find any news. I finally decided to look for the live scanner and sure enough, I think it's another fire on the bike trail. DH hopefully didn't pass the fire before it started or he's not going to be able to get back. I also hear them talking about getting in the water, so I hope that's to fight the fire and not to rescue people. I should turn the scanner off but until DH gets here, I'm going to be a worried mess :(.

ETA to add a funny. The UPS guy was just here and said he saw where the fire is and it looks under control. I said "they mentioned being in the water. Do they have to get in the water to fight the fire?" and he said "no, they meant they were drawing water out of the river to fight the fire". omg - I'm so glad I asked him and not my DH ;)

Cathy, that's funny about the water thing -- sounds like something I'd ask!  Glad it sounds under control and that your DH wasn't stuck somewhere in the firelines.  He might have to carry some firefighting gear in his bicycle basket!  Wink

I was speaking of my former coworker earlier --- I'm heading out to meet her for lunch to celebrate her birthday.  She still hasn't found a new job, but I'll be eager to hear how she's feeling about her search.  The place we're going has incredible milkshakes -- made with real ice cream.  I may not be able to resist one.

DH made it back safely, although he did say it was close to the bike trail.

I hope you had a good lunch Tracy. DH stopped at McDonald's the other day and got a chocolate milkshake. I asked for a drink and almost finished the whole thing. It was so good and I hadn't had one in ages.

Appraisal came in and everything looks great. I'm sure this won't be true, but it seems like they've got everything they need to put the seal of approval on the loan. We asked the neighbor who was going to rent our current house last year, if he was still interested. He said he wants to buy it. The price is up on it but the market around us is just starting to rebound and DH wants to hold on and sell it in a year or 2. I hope it's the right decision. I'd just assume be done with it. This neighbor is totally like a salesman trying to talk us into selling it though and I think tonight we'll have to be firm and see if he still wants to rent it.

One of our little rites of spring just appeared. Every year that we have been in this house, finches have built a nest on a wreath we keep in out covered entry area and hatched out at least one clutch. The first egg just hatched. A good omen.

Cold, wet day out there. The college kid working as my assistant this summer doesn't seem to understand the need for a rain coat. He seemed surprised to see me wearing my Carhartt crab fishing gear. It looks funny, but warm and dry is a goal. He seems to enjoy wet and cold, but did accept my extra rain coat today.

It is really getting to be time to retire. Customers have become the enemy. The office staff have given out my phone number to several, and I get calls on weekends and evenings. I was close to having the office staff afraid of calling me, and now this. The extra money is nice, but I would like to have some "me" time and it just isn't happening. Grandkids are growing up, and it would be nice to watch them.

Retiring sounds pretty sweet.  Some days more than others.  That's cool about the finches in your wreath.

The mosquitos are out in force and so are the bullbats (common nighthawk).  I guess that's what the bullbats are eating as they swoop through the air.

The tomatoes are getting ripe on all the bushes.  We'll be eating tomatoes and cooking with tomatoes until we're sick of them which is pretty much never. :)
