    Gloomy sunday

So why no thread yet today?

hopefully everyone is sleeping in and not feeling too gloomy. It's sunny here but chilly. As long as the sun is shining, I'm a happy girl though.

I got up early to see DH off to work but haven't accomplished much since then. I have a ton of cleaning to do too :(. Other than that, I plan on relaxing today. Hopefully Shane will be on board with that too but I doubt it.

It's not gloomy here but it is cloudy.  Sun will be out soon. :)  It's amazing how long this mild weather has lasted.  We're usually already sweating here.  I'm sure the true heat will be here soon but until then I'm loving the 70's and 80's we've been enjoying.

We're trying to finish up chores so we can go to the botanical gardens.  I still need to clean the bathrooms and finish cleaning out my truck.  DH is vaccuming.  Dusting may have to wait for another day.  Who wants to be stuck inside cleaining when It's so pretty outside?

I got a new dog bed for one of the dog crates.  All three dogs were trying to cram in there.  lol  Rex won.

I hope everyone enjoys their day off if you're having a day off.

FB is great for seeing a side of people you weren't aware of.  It's great to be able to "hide" posts from those people.  Keeps my blood pressure down. lol

We did GKTW this morning (schedule conflict so we switched to today to be accommodating), and were out late at a SPCA fund-raiser last night.

I've mentioned there are *three* albino squirrels (apparently from one 'litter';) --now that they are mature they've chosen 3 differet arreas at GKTW to live in.  It is SO protected there -- and the families just view them as one more "vacation opportunity" *laughing*.  As we drove in this morning, David had to stop for a car ... and one of these white squirrels just walked in front of us and SAT right in the middle of the road.  Afraid? nope .. in fact, I think I saw his lips move when he looked up at the car and said "Got Peanuts?? Photo Opportunity!!!".  It was very early morning so David didn't want to beep the horn -- so he got out and literally had to get right up to it to ask it to MOVE.  Said squirrel incredulous!  You mean you didn't bring me peanuts???  It then scampered away.

On the other paw ... when David got out of the car he didn't shut the door.  "Mom" was in the car with a hard grip on Lunabella -- "Champeen Scrwurrul CHAZER Supreme" -- there are some things that are nearly guaranteed to test a dog's "leave it" -- and for Luna B -- that is ANY squirrel at GKTW.  AT home? She could care less and rarely chases one.  but there??  "You WILL not bother my GKTW kids!!  Go away!!"

I keep trying to convince her that white squirrels are special like the kids.  That they BELONG there.

I'm not at all convinced she believes me.  She thinks squirrels are incapable of being on the "good guy" team I think.

Made US laugh anyway.  That's my anthropomorphism for the day!

Have fun at the botanical gardens Jackie.

They had a great turnout at the fundraiser for the boy with leukemia. Almost too good - parking was crazy, it was uncomfortably PACKED inside, the music was so loud you couldn't even carry on a conversation, and it was a bit disorganized.

I was a bit bummed that they didn't have a reduced rate for the dinner for kids, but I knew it was for a good cause. My mom bought $20 in raffle tickets. We ended up winning a kid's basket. It had a Mickey Mouse snow cone maker (we'll see how it works this afternoon - the mini ice cubes are freezing right now. lol), a cupcake frosting-filler thingy, some mittens, and a gift certificate for a Dairy Queen ice cream cake.

I'm getting next to nothing done because I'm watching a sort of equine ICU/NICU for a beautiful mare named Peace and her colt that was born last night. Pretty educational watching them start IVs, milk mom, tube mom, etc. If anyone likes this kind of stuff, here's the link http://www.marestare.com/fcam.php?alias=catchadream

I'm at the flyball tournament again today. Luke did a new best time, but we're doing crappily.

Callie, there used to be an albino squirrel in either Hershey Park or Dorney Park. I forget which. Also, squirrels around here are getting so dark.

Not much here. I should do laundry and clean, but instead, I'm watching a program about hotdogs. I'm not sure what that's about?!? It's windy here but the sun was out for most of the day. Yeah! I'll take the sun.

We never did make it to the botanical gardens.  I kept thinking of things I wanted to get done in the yard/garden.  Maybe we'll make it next weekend.

The dogs love it when we're all outside for hours.  As far as they're concerned this is how it should be all day, every day.  I think I agree.

I'm going to make a cake that sounds strange but it's supposed to be good.  One box of angel food cake mix and one 20 oz can of crushed pineapple mixed together.  I used the type with juice instead of packed in heavy syrup.  Mix up and bake in a 9 x 13 pan for 20-25 minutes at 350F.  Talk about easy. :)

Jackie - I definitely want to hear how that cake turned out. I'm in agreement with the dogs. I love being outside with Shane all day. Unfortunately, it turned out to be cold and windy all day and it's super windy now. I think a bubble bath is in order for this evening. I did get 4 loads of laundry and a ton of cleaning done, so I'm happy about that. I have a physical at 8:30 and might go grocery shopping after that. Such a fun, glamorous life I lead ;)

      Amen

Gretsch and Macie played in the yard (hooray!) and then Macie was so tired she didn't want to play with Gracie in the yard, so I took Gracie to drop-in class.  Then after Protection was over I let her run around the shop while I vacuumed.  She is knocked out tired. We have a visit w/the chiropractor, but I'm going to try to move it up, if my new work schedule will allow. I'll be working more now with this short-term assignment than my former job. lol

Someone wants a referral for a big mushy "gentle giant" of a Doberman to live with a 2 1/2yr old boy, a 4yr old girl (humans) and some small dogs.  Uhm, yup, I'm gonna refer you to a Lab breeder, not a Dobe breeder.

Very odd weather today.  One minute the sun would be out and five minutes later it would be dark and windy.  Either rain already or let the sun shine!

Jackie, that breakfast sounds fabulous!  Maybe the reason I've never seen them is because I'm never at a Mexican restaurant for breakfast.  I'll have to start. Big Smile

I had DS #1 borrow a long ladder today and climb up to remove the burned out light bulb that used to light up the back yard and the deep end of the pool.  It's a very weird looking bulb with odd stuff inside - I think it's an old halogen bulb.  If so, the state would want me to toss it and buy a new, state approved, much more expensive one.  I'm going to hunt around for the kind I have.  I'm sure there's at least one place in Sacramento that carries that older, no longer used stuff.

It just makes me giggle (especially when it's in a place where it really can't hurt because it's so "safe" there) when a wild crittur like this just takes for granted that humans aren't the enemy.  I will never forget seeing that WHITE squirrel sitting in front of my husband's brown shoes looking up at him as tho he expected David to pet him  and of course that great big huge black noisy car thing wasn't going to run over him!!

Most of the time nature is a hard place.  And most of the time humans aren't helping when they feed wildlife.  They DO try **hard** to discourage families from feeding the squirrels (cos you don't want a kid to get bitten either) -- but in a place like GKTW the rules bend to make terminally & critically sick children a little happier today.so I can't grip like I customarily would about people being too nice to "wild" animals.  But he WAS cute.
