Some of you may recall that Zeke can be awfully noisy. Not all the time, but when something sets him off, boy can he be obnoxious, and shrill, besides. I have come to accept, to a degree, at least, his barking at cats (and squirrels and deer). We are working on toning it down, but I think that is too much part of him to completely eliminate. But his whining and barking at other times is a bit much. Usually I can handle it, but if I am already stressed, it really, really bothers me.
There are three times when he is noisy that I would like to reduce (aside from the cats thing), but I don't know how.
1. In the morning before I am up. If he decides he wants to be up, he whines. He sleeps in his crate, and is fine all night, until he has just slept enough, or something. I think if he is really tired the night before he does nt do it the next morning, but I have not been able to determine this for sure. (He doesn't always whine).
2. Also in the morning, while I am eating breakfast. He has been out, and fed, but he is done before me, and is ready for our walk. Which he lets me know with incessant whining.
3. In the car. This is the worst of the three. Every time he rides in the car, he whines and barks, though mostly whines. I think he understands he is not supposed to bark, but he can't keep himself from whining. Currently he rides in a crate, which is a little small for him, and I don't know whether he would be quieter if he was harnessed without a crate, or whether he whines just because it is exciting to go places. He will even whine while half asleep!"
Any suggestions would be wonderful. I was hoping he would outgrow some of this, but not yet... Someday I would like a dog that people don't remember as a hooligan :)
