    Saturday Chat

We slept late, which for us is till 6:30 AM.  LOL  It's coolish and windy this morning.  We were supposed to get up to 90 today and then tomorrow is supposed to be much cooler.

We're going to eat lunch at a little cafe we found last weekend up in the Hill Country.  There should be even more wildflowers blooming but with the drought, not as many as some years.  DH is feeling better and so far, I haven't caught his cold.

I never watch Paula Deen's cooking show because she  annoys me but I watched a few minutes this morning because Cheech was on the show.  He's still got great comic timing and was pretty funny interacting with Paula.  I didn't know he's married to a Russian pianist.

    Have fun Jackie!!

It's still windy today and chilly. Hopefully the wind will die down sometime today.

I took Shane up to the trail for a walk yesterday and had barely started our walk when I saw a snake about 20 feet ahead slithering across the road. I'm not freaked out by snakes but I don't like them either. I don't think it would've bothered me as much if there were other people around but it was just us, so I left and took him to our other favorite place.

I spent the rest of the afternoon working on taxes. I'm not thrilled with the outcome but at least it wasn't worse than any other year.

I hope everyone has a great day!

I am dedicating today and tomorrow to completing our taxes. I have everything organized and the spreadsheet set up so hoping its a straight forward affair.

I just did some clicker training with B in order to have a bit of peace as I tuck into the taxes. OMG he is so funny, I just don't get why he can't function at a normal pace. I finally decided to teach him to put his toys into a box. I am happy to say the 'box' a large plastic tub has survived. Only because I decided to take a break before it was lost to the cause. He is just so enthusiastic LOL I can't help but laugh as he was picking up the toy and expected a click when he started flinging it around.

I had my hair cut early this morning. The poor girl that does it looked sleepier than me. I stayed up way too late watching basketball and online chatting with some friends. I am so sleepy and have a massive headache from all the stress & allergies. Bleck

Jackie glad you have escaped the cooties and that Mr Jackie is feeling well enough for a nice lunch!

Hmmm, CA chilly?  Texas chilly?  But, it's all relative, and to you I'm sure it IS chilly.  While those of us in the frigid NE would feel like it was the middle of summer!  It's 29 here with the high heading to 34, but the sun is shining and that makes it feel warmer to me.  Yep, I know, self deluson!

Glad that Charles is feeling better Jackie.  And, that you get to go out to play this weekend.  I'm planning a nice long walk through the fields later on, with my three furry friends.

So, we hired another ad rep this morning and I was back home before 9:30.  The applicant was on time, the boss was a few minutes late, but not too bad, and we had a quick and professional interview.  Of course the boss opted out more or less by getting into his email.  Love the way we've gone from me 'sitting in' on interviews, to me conducting them.  When the guy asked when we would expect him to start I had to nudge the boss....uh, hello?  This is your part of the conversation!  I'll be darned if I'm going to hire anyone without his go ahead!  I'll be spending much quality time with this new guy this next week, but I still want the boss to be the one that says "go for it".

Might be cold, but it's too darned pretty to sit inside.  I'm off to romp with the critters.

Hope everyone has a good day today!

Creech lol I have a lot of fond memories of watching check and change movies. They were genius :p

I gave the dogs bully sticks yesterday (2nd time ever I think) and now they all have the runs. So much for that! They are way overpriced anyway.

Now I need to come up with a way to get these dogs tired out that doesn't involve going anywhere.

ETA - so laughing at autocorrect. I meant Cheech and Chong!

I was wondering what you were talking about when I read that first sentence.  Too funny!

Cathy, just reading the words "snake slithering across the road" totally freaked me out.  I'm terrified of them -- that's probably the main reason I'm not fond of hiking or walking in wooded areas.  I worry one will be on the ground or one will fall out of tree on me or something.  Yes, it's an unreasonable phobia!

I need to do our taxes -- they're not complicated, and I keep very organized records, but I haven't even purchased the tax software yet.  Every year I wait until the last minute.

We're going to look at bedroom furniture today.  DH hates that kind of shopping (I'm not fond of it either).  I've learned it's best for me to do the "pre-shopping" and find one or two things to show DH on a later visit.  So, today we'll look at a couple things I scoped out several weeks ago with my friend.  We've never had a real bed (no headboard), and our bureau is ancient.  DH's nightstand is an old TV/VCR cart, so he's due for an upgrade!

Good luck with furniture shopping Tracy. I used to enjoy it but not so much anymore. DH doesn't really like it either but he's great to have along because he's just critical enough to keep me from being impulsive. I have to say that I've had no regrets about the stuff we've picked out together and that includes our bedroom furniture.

The snake thing was kind of strange for me. When I saw it up ahead, I stopped but wasn't freaked out. What I couldn't shake was the thought of having been super close when it crossed the road though. I guess I'm only brave when I know they're not super close. DH asked what it looked like and all I could say that it was too far away to tell but it was dark. He reminded me that there are a lot of rattlers in that area and that actually worries me more for Shane than for myself. I love that trail though, so I'm determined to overcome the fear and go back...someday :)

Good luck with the taxes Karen. I didn't have a headache when I started but I sure did when I was done.

We didn't end up going where we planned for lunch.  We went to the plant nursery instead and now we're knee deep in garden fun. :)   We must have spent twenty minutes just walking around the rose section at the nursery enjoying the fragrant smells and beautiful roses.  My favorite rose is the Peace rose.  I never buy one though because most roses require too much fussing with for my style of gardening.  I plant Knock Out roses because they really are practically maintenance free.  We did pick up a few things though and this is why I have a frequent shopper card at this nursery. lol

Karen, good luck with the taxes.  Ours are pretty easy since we aren't self employed but I still put it off every year just because. Silly Bugsy. :)

Cathy, sorry the snake deterred you from your walk but I'm glad you had an alternative place.  The snake is probably as afraid of you as you were of it.  :)

6:30 is late for you Jackie. Wish I could say the same. I've just never, ever been a morning person.

Cathy sorry about the snake ruining your walk. Least you had another favorite place to go. I'm not freaked out by them either but just don't like to think of them surprising me. I do remember doing a little dance with one small snake a few years ago. I was mowing the lawn and it came between me and the lawn mower. As I didn't want to chop it up, I tried to hold the lawn mower in one place, as I kept backing up trying to get away from it. So here I am, stretched to all git out, trying to save this snake. Instead of him continuing on his journey, he starts coming at me, with his head up and flicking his tongue at me. I must have finally jumped over him, to get closer to the lawn mower and move it out of his way. Could not believe that he was trying to attack me. I'm sure he was more afraid than I and just trying to defend himself. I don't think we have any poisonous snakes around here though. There are certain areas in NY where there might be rattlers, but don't think in our particular area. It is frightening to think of dogs with the rattlesnakes. A few years back, and I'm thinking it may have been in the early days of this forum but not sure, a young girl had one of her dogs bitten by a rattler and posted pictures and updated us as to her dogs condition. The pictures weren't pretty that was for sure. Though it was certainly quite a healing process, the dog did okay in the end.

I was wondering about the check and change movies as well Tracy. Auto correct, that makes sense now.

Everyone is talking about taxes. Must get our info all gathered as well. I usually do ours, but there is something this year I'm not sure of, so best get my call in to a CPA or might not be able to get in before the 15th of Apr.

Our Joey kitty was just bothering me for attention and I knocked him off of my lap. So downstairs he goes and starts walking up and down the piano, trying to get attention from hubby. Two of our cats do that to get attention. It's very comical to watch them.

LOL  at the kitty antics.  I do know what it's like to be startled by an unexpected snake.  Even if you're not afraid, it gets your adrenaline flowing.  I admit I giggled at your description of trying to save the snake and still keep a safe distance.  You're sure right about rattlers and dogs being a bad mix.  Seen more than a few dogs who were bitten. All but one survived.  That's why I vaccinate mine against rattlesnake bites.

I'm happily tired from working in the garden.  :)   I have more to do but needed a break and some lunch.

A funny that Cheech said during the show with Paula Deen.  She said she and her husband had been watching Cheech and Chong movies, probably never seen one before his visit.  He leaned toward her and sniffed and said she didn't smell like she'd been watching C & C movies. Big Smile

We had an embarrassing morning at a flyball tournament. We did better than that during Luke's first tournament. We came out with less than 100 points out of 525 possible. His first time, he got 131. The most successful thing about today is me not getting flagged for cursing.

Good idea to vaccinate when you live in areas where they are. Didn't realize they had vaccinations for that. Is it a yearly thing?

Wished I could say I'm happily tired from the garden. It'll be awhile yet.

Liked the little Cheech and Chong funny.

Tracy, welcome to my scaredey place.  It's a high, sheer glass pillar that the darned things CAN'T climb.  And oh yeah, wayyyy out away from trees, in a hawk free zone, just in case one were to drop one.....

Jackie - a few people I know have gotten the rattlesnake vaccines for their dogs but from an article I read you still need to rush them to the vet. Had you heard that?
