One Ton, remember to eat! Does he like rotisserie chicken or anything like that? Or liver? The neck sounds kind of gross, but I bet you're absolutely right--getting it out is a good thing!

Maybe he had an abscess on his neck?  That's what it sounds like. Sending strong eating vibes his way; please, please eat One Ton!!! (((Karen)))

I'm guessing that sometimes he gets nauseaus, whether it's those liver values, the blood/muscus draining into his belly, or the antibiotics and then it turns him off of certain meals I've been giving him. I had a syringe feed him again this morning, he was half interested, swallowing willingly and sometimes licking the slurry in the bowl, but not making an effort to eat a lot of it. I'll give him something unique again tonight and we'll carry on. His spirits are good, he's getting up on his own, in fact BF took him out after school yesterday with no assistive harness and he got around the yard to do his business easily. He's SO skinny.  It seems that whatever was leaking in the throat area inside and causing him to cough up blood is improving as the cough is better and he's not coughing up as much blood anymore. The neck is still draining and the air filled areas are going down gradually.

Soooooo glad to hear One Ton is on the mend. Keep eating and get well thoughts and vibes still coming.

    ^^^ what Linda said.

Not to be gross too but my hubby had some surgery years ago.....had a similar thing happen he was so sick then when the for lack of a better word "abcess type thing" opened and drain it was night and day within minutes, in how he felt and how quickly he began to recover.  We thought it was staph infection but of course but the Drs wouldnt admit that.  Needless to say once all that nasty poison left his body he was a new man.

One Ton you just keep up the good work...this may be the turn around we have all been praying for.

I hope today is a good day for One Ton and his appetite is even better. Poor sweet guy is getting the best love and care from you and I'm sure he appreciates it.

      Ditto.

Karen, his kidney values will make him nauseous as well. Fish oil has been proven to help the kidneys, so if you can work a few grams (capsules) into his diet, or get him to eat high fat fish like salmon, that may help him. According to Dr. Dodds, fish is also good for the liver. Slipping a B vitamin supplement into his food would help too. Are you doing subcutaneous fluids? They can really help his kidneys and he might not be as nauseous. You're taking wonderful care of him;(((hugs)))

    Are you doing subcutaneous fluids?

Vet had me doing half a liter twice a day since last Monday. He had his last subcutaneous fluids yesterday morning.... vet wanted me to stop them and he gets blood work retested tomorrow. Vet said that in trauma they can show the values he showed and have them improve.  B vitamin? Which B, all of them? I can give salmon oil, I have that. I am working more fish in, it seems all the kidney diets have it. He could be nauseaus from the liver or kidneys, I'll know tomorrow....

One Ton, I bet your tests tomorrow are going to show improvement! Remember to eat and drink so you can continue to get better!  Karen, you're doing great with him!

I'm glad to hear that One Ton is enjoying his fish. I"m sorry to hear of what happened to him. I just found out tonight and wanted to come and let you know he's in my thoughts and prayers. Feel better One Ton. You've earned a long and lazy retirement.

I just wanted to send extra good vibes for tomorrow's vet visit and lab tests.  I'll be thinking positive thoughts for improved liver and kidney values.  I'm very happy to hear some of the good news you posted about him eating the cod and being more mobile and interested in what's going on around him, etc.

I don't know if the same can be said for dogs, but strong pain medication makes me nauseous, so perhaps that's affecting his appetite, too.  It doesn't matter how hungry you are -- if your stomach is reeling and queasy, nothing is going to taste good.  I wonder if there's anything that is safe for the liver that you could give him for nausea?  I'm thinking about the papaya tablets we keep in our office for when any of us has an upset stomach at work.  I know ginger ale is out of the question!  Wink

Give One Ton some gentle ear rubs from me -- and a hug for you!
