Seriously injured dog needing good thoughts (outdoorschik)

Poor guy is having a rough time with the fluid in his neck and lungs. He's coughing a lot today. Still eating well, we just need to beat this throat/lung infection going on. It really seems like that's the thing to beat, his punctures and leg infection improve daily so overall it seems to be the most challenging thing he has going on at this point (besides the use of his leg, but that's not life threatening). After his long jaunt around yesterday morning he did't want to move the rest of the day/night. I think I'm going to try to make him get up and moving more frequently, it seems to break up whatever is in there and make the cough more productive, it settles in and just makes him breath more shallow when he's just laying there. So we keep going forward and try to get this guy better!

Haven't been on for a while and just seeing this now.  We're sending all the vibes we can speeding straight up I-95 and on to you and One Ton.  Glad he's still eating and doing a little better.

Karen I think it is probably a good idea if he moves more often but not long distances (relative to his strength long)

We are thinking of all of you and sending our best.

Sending continued good thoughts (and gentle reminders not to over do it, One Ton!).

I keep checking in on you two.   Glad to see that he has some ambition!   Baily and I continue to send good thoughts and healing vibes.  YOU are a rockin' doggie mommy  !!!

     I just had a thought....

Would it make sense to try and extract some of the air that is below the surface in his neck ?  I have no idea if that is even possible or make sense.  Like aspirating a mass....except the needle is in an air pocket and just suck out some of the air ????

Just checking in to tell you that we are still thinking of you and One Ton, good vibes that he continues to improve little by little!

I've been following just haven't posted yet. Sending good vibes from NY. I'd think getting him up and around a bit is a good idea, just don't over do it.

Keep it up One Ton!!  Keep trying, Sweetheart!!

Licorice??  The black licorice is another really good anti-inflammatory for the lungs and typically they really like it.  Not lots but a couple of pieces (Switzers is usually easy to find).

Let me know if you need anything.  The Traumeel will help when you get it.

Hmm... so it's really hard not to get dejected and pick apart his every move. His body IS improving, but energy and strength wise we backslid a bit and he's just staying at that point. He had one grand morning a few mornings ago where he explored the living room and office (50-100 feet in total walking) and he hasn't tried since, in fact it's difficult to convince him to get up where he was helping me get him up at the end of last week and he tries less when I try to get him out. He just seems weaker even though he's eatting more. The swelling all over his body is going down. I truly hope he's just using all his energy to heal internally, but I don't know :(

((((Karen)))) and gentle healing vibes for One Ton.

Come on One Ton keep fighting....we are all pulling for you!

I'd be willing to bet he just plain hurts -- he was exploring that day and then felt *bad* afterward -- they aren't stupid.

Read him his posts -- tell him he's GOTTA try cos it is gonna help him.  "You WILL get better!!  But we gotta work it!"

Yup--and, it may be a good indicator that it's not quite time to reduce the pain meds yet (as much as I, too, would want to!). They may be what makes is possibe for him to move a bit. It's a difficult balance, that's for sure! One Ton, keep going buddy! We're sending you lots of get better soon vibes!

I agree about the pain probably making him not want to move. I also hope that it is a matter of his body working overtime to heal. We're all pulling for both of you. (((Hugs)))

I agree with Kate, you may not want to reduce those pain meds just yet to keep his spirits going. That's half the battle. After I recently had surgery, I didn't start feeling really awful until I was actually on the mend. Then I was just sick and tired of being uncomfortable. Mentally, that's really draining and I think gets in the way of the healing process. That could be going on here.
