oh wow... I had to share, he just got up on the three legs by himself. He sank right back down, but this is the effort the vet wanted to see by yesterday and we're getting it! Before he'd walk when I would pull him up with the harness, but the vet wanted him to want to try on his own and this is the first he's done it... this is after eating that darn Hill's AD recovery food again. Whether I like it or not, I've presented him with numerous other options that he doesn't take and he scarfs it on his own! The swelling fluid/air around the neck is no worse and the bleeding out the nose/bloody cough is no worse they are remaining stable.

Yea One Ton....you can do it big boy!  Karen that sound so good.  Thanks for sharing his picture with us earlier it helps knowing what he looks like so we can picture him in our prayers :)

Way to go, One Ton! You keep trying, buddy! You're doing great! (And good job eating that food.) Karen, you're doing a great job! Hugs to all of you! (And I just love his name!) Continued "get better" vibes and positive energy coming your way.

I read your earlier update at work, but I couldn't post then.  I was very glad to read the news that One Ton is more interested in food and that he appears to be gaining a little strength and motivation to stand on his own.  I feel my chest get tight when I read your updates . . . I can't imagine the stress, worry, and exhaustion you're experiencing.  Sending continued calming vibes to you and healing vibes to your handsome guy (I was happy to see his photo, too).  Gentle ear rubs for One Ton and hugs for you.

Checking in to see if One Ton has made progress.  Sure glad I did.  Keep it up big beautiful boy!

Karen, you are a hero.  A loving dog mom and a true angel on earth.  I know this has been traumatic for ALL involved...physical and emotional too.  You have GOT to feel good about this.  OK, maybe its too early, but this all sounds like excellent progress.  He'll get better day by day.

A Pet first aid course is a great idea!  We have a trainer in my community that teaches it.  I really should sign up.

Continued good thoughts and prayers to all of you.  Heal fast One Ton!

Thanks so much everyone, I truly believe the positive energy flowing to One Ton is helping him heal. At the very least it's sure helping me feel positive! We notice great strides every day now. The sub cue additional antibiotic really seems to be slowing that infection that was taking hold around his neck, the fluids in there seem to be decreasing or at least remaining stable, the air is still there but that apparently will take a while longer to be absorbed and the air is not increasing which was what had us really worried. His appetite is growing each day and this morning, he has begun to get himself up on the three legs and hobble about unassisted. I leave the dog open to his "hopsital room" to he can observe the goings on and the dogs and cat can visit him. Today he got out on his own, made it to the living room dogbed and fell fast asleep. What an effort it was, but he's really WANTING to do it. He tries something and then rests for many many hours, then he tries something else, it's progress for sure.

Yay for so many good signs!! I know he's not out of the woods yet though and will continue to say prayers for more progress. I know you must be loving each baby step towards his healing though. I know I sure am.

Thanks for keeping him in mind as the days go on. He's still got quite the battle, we need to get rid of the infection completely and have that throat/neck area heal more since he's still coughing up blood... I like that he's moving around more, I think it breaks up the stuff in the throat. His kidneys and liver values need to rebound, next week we'll have blood work to find out if they are improving and if the bad values were not long term damage from the shock but rather a response to the trauma & infections. I've been working with his foot and leg, soaking them in warm water... if he's strong enough, next Wednesday they will x-ray and decide what do do on that aspect. There is some small response in squeezing and pushing on it.

Tonight I'm going to start cutting down the tramadol, he seems to do really well as the dose is wearing off in the late evening/early morning. I think he'd benefit from continued pain control but allowing him to be a bit more lucid (he's very doped up once it kicks in fully). We'll see how he responds to a reduced dose. He's getting tramadol and metacam... I know, very counterproductive to the liver, but he has to be pain free enough to want to heal and move.
