Oh, my gosh--I've been checking all evening hoping for this kind of hopeful news. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes--One Ton, keep going buddy! You did good at the vet eating another whole can of food! Karen, this all sounds so scary and you're doing a GREAT job! Know I'm thinking of you and your whole crew. Lots of hugs!

    • Gold Top Dog
That does sound scary. I would be a wreck! I'm still thinking positive thoughts for the guy
    • Gold Top Dog

He ate on his own...that is great progress.  We're pulling for you One Ton!

    • Gold Top Dog

I know things are good and bad right now....keep focusing on the good, trying to increase that just a bit every day.   A few more steps, a few more bites of food.   Keep an eye on the bad of course.

C'mon big boy !  Keep eating and feeling better.  Momma loves you and you have a ton of fans sending strong healing vibes !!!

See One Ton, I KNEW you could keep TRUCKIN buddy!!!  I am **SO** proud of you!!  You are being SUCH a good dog.

One Ton - you **are** still leading the pack -- it's just a different *kind* of pack.  Mom, the vets, everbuddy is behind you buddy -- following you and rooting for you to come in to getting better!!

Eat ... even if you don't really want to.  But it will help.

One Ton -- even Aunt Callie was really sick last month and *I* Had to get tons of stuff and water with needles.  But you know what?? It is **easier** that way than in your tummy right now.

You try ok??  Keep trying -- even walking on 3 legs -- it's a good brave thing and you CAN, One Ton.  You **CAN** do this.  Surprise them all, Sweetheart.  Surprise everbuddy.  Aunt Callie says you **can**.

Oliver will tell you -- Aunt Callie gets really bossy sometimes and tells you to TRY when its hard ... but even all the way from Floor-da, Aunt Callie can love you really BIG.  You gots to stick around One Ton cos hopefully me and Uncle Davey will get up there to see you!!!  And you gotta know -- Aunt Callie is NOT a snow kinda-lady ... nope, no snow for Aunt Callie.  And no white water rafting either.

If I get up there to see you guys, it's gonna be because I want to see your Mom, Karen, and Olly-vah and YOU.  So how about it big guy?  You gonna try hard for me??

When you close your eyes One Ton -- you will feel me scratch you right behind your right ear ... and then your left.  That will help make you strong.  Try hard, ok???

    Love, Aunt Callie

Karen, do you have slippery elm?  (even if it's left from Oliver it should be FINE and it's usually easy to find).  Make it with chamomile tea -- that will help keep the tummy happy and make food more acceptible.   The slippery elm will help the lungs.

Can you find Traumeel?  It's a homeopathic but it WILL help.  It's incredibly good for trauma.  Ifyou don't think you can find it, I will send it to you.

Come on One Ton, keep trying real hard to get better.  We in sunny LA (most of the time) are all behind you, cheering you on and hoping for your recovery!

I read the first paragraph and then came to the end. . .I haven't even processed what happened completely yet.  I hope he will be OK.  We are pulling for One Ton!  I LOVE that name!

Karen, I didn't even see this until today.  One Ton has my strongest vibes for recovery.  So fortunate to have good veterinary care and you to have saved his life and even trying to learn from this to help future dogs.  My best wishes that his gifts to your dog owning experience continues well into the months and years ahead.  ((hugs))  Let me know if you need any local-ish help, since I'm in southern NH now.

I'm hoping anyone that reads this also takes a few moments to reflect if they know how to stabilize a dog that's experienced trauma and if they'd know what to do if they encountered what I did... b/c I sure didn't!! I'm currently looking for classes. There is a pet First Aid/CPR that I'm going to take (and set up for my staff), but I'm also looking for some more advanced things since we are 1.5 hours from an e-vet. I lucked out (if luck can be attributed to this situation) that this occured between 6:45 and 7AM and my vet opens at 8 (techs get there earlier). We were able to reach the vet at home who turn called his tech in to meet me there and gave her instructions (heating pad, blankets, fluids, dex - steroid into the muscle, etc. etc.) I would like to learn some of that basic stuff so we can safely and intelligently stabilize a dog here before we drive at least 1.5 hours to get help (3 hours in a snowstorm). As you all know I have quite a few dogs here with what I do so the likelihood purely based on statistics of me experiencing things like this are higher.

I'm darn lucky our sled dog vet is an old military vet used to treating dogs that have experienced severe trauma!! I was sitting in the waiting room yesterday and a lady was commenting to me that she didn't know if she'd stay with him since he's always so busy... I didn't bother to comment that it might just be because people realize he knows what he's doing?!? Go ahead.. she can go to the vet that never has anyone in the waiting room, sigh.

This morning he ate half his breakfast for me before i syringe fed the rest and he considered lapping it out of the bowl while I was feeding him so I'm very pleased that the appetite is returning, that's huge. I'm also quite grateful it's Friday as I'm WIPED OUT from the 4Am wake up time this requires. Hoping this new antibiotic will address the lungs and help his body fight this infection. Hard to imagine he could have been screaming and lunging into his harness to go for a run just this past Sunday.

Callie - I'll call the health food place and see if they have traumeel... I used to have it, but it seems to have disappeared!

Karen you are doing such a great job and though I know you are worn out your experience is a lesson for us all.   When Hot injured his pads last year, shock was a big concern for both us and the vet.  We are so much closer to our vet than you are, I knew I could get him there quickly.  I think the classes and pet cpr is an excellant idea.  May have to pass this along to my vet, he is very involved with community education.

One Ton you must be listening to all the prayers and vibes coming your way.  I am so pleased to see that you ate some more and that you are doing some better.  Being an athlete like you are, makes you so much stronger, use that strength and determination to speed up your healing.  By the way, I have told Hot and Rock about you and they are sending those special doggy vibes your way.
