Seriously injured dog needing good thoughts (outdoorschik)

    Jewlieee
Its hard to get excited though since he's far from being out if the woods obviously. Just keep it up. I hope he pulls through.

Yes... you are so right. He's such a mixed bag right now. Things going badly and things going well that it truly could go either way. I've left a detailed message with the vet techs and they will call me about the leg when the vet comes in. He allowed me to feed him over a full can this morning which is way more than the 5 syringes he would normally tolerate til he refused to swallow and moved away/spit it out so that's great and will help him gain strength. However, his lungs continue to worry me and I don't think he's nearly strong enough to make it through an amputation today. On the other hand, if he could, the removal of bad flesh would be good for his body as a whole. I'm just trying to encourage him to get through day by day and see where it takes us ... seeing him get outside to go to the bathroom with my help with the assistive harness is great, but that 150 ft round trip is exhausting for him.

Thanks everyone... it helps more that you know to hear from you all!

One Ton, keep going buddy! Your mama's taking good care of you!  That's good you ate a whole can of food! Sending lots of positive healing energy. ((((hugs))))

One Ton keep on eating and drinking so you can get really healthy.  This is not the best way to start your retirement but....you gotta get well so you can tell all the youngin's your stories!

So glad to see he's interested in food again and I continue to think positive thoughts for him and for you.

We think we found the cause of his cough (penumonia developing)... air subcutaneously and it's growing. Which means trachea or lung puncture/tear. That would be very, very bad right now and might be the proverbial straw that breaks the camel's back in this. We could use all the good thoughts possible today for him. Air can develop subcutaneously after trauma/puncture, but we think it's grown which means it's not from the punctures. :( :(

He's going to the vet in a couple of hours I hope I get to bring him home again, but I just don't know and I won't torture him prolonging things he can't possibly recover from.

Well, we are back. They put him on another antibiotic in the sub cue fluids... that makes three. He's coughing up blood, but his lungs are not as bad as it sounds according to the vet. There was a fancy name for the air subcutaneously getting infected and the blood in his lungs... I've forgotten. basically it is all due to the trauma. They said that they feel he is improving... he did eat a whole can of that super concentrated Hill's stuff at the vet!!! First thing he's eatten on his own. They found a response in his leg though it has very poor circulation causing it to be ice cold, we're supposed to soak it in warm water. It's so scary to watch him cough up blood and the air under his skin is just weird, but apparently there is still reason to hope. The neck has a lot of punctures and deep muscle trauma and there may be damage to the trachea but apparently (hopefully) all the air may be coming from the punctures. His legs and balance are getting stronger, he just needs to fight these infections.
