Need serious good thots, Malamute stuck in hole (outdoorschik)

OMG!  That poor guy.  People just totally sicken me some days.  I'd do ANYTHING to have Aspen back & these people just walk away from their dog.  *spitting mad*

    • Gold Top Dog

I am sooo angry that all I can do is sputter and NOT form a coherent sentence.  So this is a place the poor dog shouldn't have even been taken??  They couldn't leave him safely at home??  Oh, wait, he might have peed on their persian rugs.  Can't have that.

Someone really needs to share the 2X4 with me.....more power in the punch when wielded by multiple po'd folks.......

So this is a place the poor dog shouldn't have even been taken??

I guess... I didn't know until I talked to her. I was trying to brainstorm how to calm him and I have a few dogs that are older, calm and have been useful in catching panicked dogs in the past and calming them better than any person could.. so I brought this up since she was talking to me about tranquilizers/muzzles. She then told me that this was not a place for any dog. I googled the trail and it is described as having "icy, black hungry holes" It is a place below the rest of the land that traps the cold all year and holds ice.

The description continues -"It requires lots of scrambing over huge rocks, etc.it is described as having a trail that drops vertically into a ravine with boulders you need to contort/pull/stretch your body through. This boulder hopping goes on for .9 miles and requires constant focus and attention to placement of limbs, along with pulling and sliding and praying the black holes will not eat you!"....

Certainly not something a confused pup should have been dragged through.

Poor puppy... I just want to wrap him up in a fluffy blanket and give him a spot on the couch. Poor guy has had a heck of a day... but maybe he'll get a better family out of the deal?
    • Gold Top Dog

Well great news. He's out and is going home with one of the Forest Service guys. Sounds like actually his 'family' could have gotten him out too if they'd given half a darn about him. Makes me so mad I need the 2x4 myself. I hope they are sucessful in pursuing the owners... at the very least the cost of the rescue should be their responsibility.  Hoping the Forest Service guy gets to give him a great home long term.

I'm sooooooo glad when I stumble on these posts and the outcome in good. I was reading along from the beginning outloud to DH and getting choked up. I agree with everything you said. I hope both pup and whoever he's sleeping with tonight are feeling nice and peaceful. Shame on the owners.

    • Gold Top Dog

Yay for the puppy!!!  I'm so glad he gets to spend some time in comfort with someone who actually cares about him.

    • Gold Top Dog

Yeah--I'm so glad the puppy is out of there and safe. And, yeah for the Ranger stepping up to take care of him. And yeah to outdoorschik for being ready at a moment's notice to help in any way possible and for keeping us posted. Seems if the owners notified authorities they were abandoning the dog, that's it. They've given him up. Period. Send 'em a freakin' huge bill for the rescue though. Just as Aspen's mom said, we'd give anything to have our beloved dogs back and these idiots abandon their young dog after taking it to a place it shouldn't have been in the first place. Sorry for ranting a bit. Just makes me beyond mad.

Is there absolutely no cell phone service in this park/mountain range? At all? Not even on the peak of a hill or small mountain? To where one person could stay with the dog while the other one search for a couple of bars of reception?

If ya'll can't find a 2 X 4, I'll step in. I'm pretty good with my hands and feet. Not only that, but a 2 X 4 leaves distinctive marks. Injuries from hands and feet leave irregular marks and are harder to define. It could take them a while to find a dog lover with martial art skills.

But, in reality, I hope this couple gets tagged by a judge to never be allowed to own an animal, again. And least get a ticket cruelty to animals by means of abandonment. At least they called the forest service. They could have not called anyone and the dog would have died from starvation or predation.

ETA: Where did they call the forest service from? The comfort of their car while driving home? Or from the house?

I don't go to churches and don't follow any organized religion and am just as likely to debate semantically either for or against theism. That being said, let me quote from the Bible. "If you have done so unto the least of these, you have done so unto me." May God (Whomever he or she may be) have mercy on their souls. For they could not show the compassion and loyalty a fellow dog would show.

I like Frisby's idea. Send the bill for the rescue to the supposed owners who simply abandoned him.

    • Gold Top Dog
I'm so glad that he's safe. I kept dreaming about my beast stuck in this tunnel thing and crying for me to get him out last night...didn't figure out why until I signed on this morning. Guess this little guy was on my mind.

So, now that the rescue and everything is all successful and the outcome seems good, assuming the original owners have no claim to the dog, I'm curious about this place. What the heck were these people doing in there with a puppy? or at all for that matter? Is it like a "Cool" place to go hiking or something? What's it called? I'd like to look it up and try and understand it.

    • Gold Top Dog

It's called "Icy Gulch" in Randolph, NH. It's a "cool" hiking trail. Literally, lol. They shouldn't have been in there with a dog. I am curious to go check it out myself now, sans dogs.

Ron - They called the Forest Service from the comfort of their car driving home. There IS cell reception, if not on the trail, just five minutes away, I can get reception from the road right by the trailhead so I'd be shocked if they had none on the trail.

I'm going to call later to check on it... i'll be scanning the papers for a write-up on the situation.

    inexcusable.

    • Gold Top Dog

Here's what I am wondering. If one can get cell service out there and it's accessible to the public and they could have easily called within minutes of the dog being in trouble and could have had obviously fast response, why didn't they? Now, I wonder if they intentionally went out there to abandon the dog. An intentional "oops". "Oops! The dog is in a hole. C'est la Vie. We should probably call the forest service."

"Okay, but my favorite show is coming on at 7:00 and I still need to shower."

"Just call now and we'll be done with it."

What kind of idiot spends good money on a Malamute pup and then leaves him in a hole? How can these people pee away money like that? I mean, even if one is not that attuned to animals, how can you squander an "investment" like that? With that kind of money management, they should go broke sooner rather than later. I can hope.

It's like the time I found a Shiba Inu in the Sherman Animal Shelter. A rare, expensive breed with price per pup a sizable small fortune. In a rural county shelter.

I'm not the smartest guy in the world but these people make me feel like a genius. Which may not be saying much. It's like saying that I'm smarter than a doorstop.

If they are religious, do they not realize that God gave them dominion over the animals, which also carries responsibility? If they are not religious, do they not realize that they don't even show the compassion one animal shows for another? I know for some, animals are just property, as might be cattle or other chattel. Even so, I bet the guy showed more care for his games and sports equipment, if he has any, than for his living property. Sad. I suppose calling the forest service was simply to cover their own backsides against legal repercussions.

I guess that's why I've kept the tag line in my sig as it is for so long now. It kind of says everything.

Are there any updates on the pup today?
