Lisa - I'm not sure this will help but wanted to let you know that my best friend's granddaughter has been dealing with the same thing. Olivia is 3 y.o. and just like Riley, her mom noticed that her knee was swollen and she was limping but just a little bit. She took her in and they put her on antibiotics and said maybe she'd gotten bit by something. A few days later (last Sat.) Olivia's knee was even more swollen and her mom took her to the ER. They drew blood to test for MRSA and put her on another antibiotic and said she had cellulitis. The test for MRSA came back negative. I talked to my friend 2 days ago and Olivia was doing okay. I'll be talking to my friend today and will let you know how things are now. I hope it's nothing serious going on with Riley and will keep her in my thoughts and prayers today.

Definitely sending you lots of good thoughts.  So scary.  Hopefully it ends up being something simple to take care of.

Just got back to the office...Dr. says she has juvenile arthritis...not RA!!  Very very good news!!  Basically once the inflamation goes down with Ibuprofen 3x a day (100 mg) it is very possible that it will never come back again.  Even if it does, it is very manageable.

Thank you all so much for all the prayers and good thoughts!

Lisa - I'm glad you got good news. How do they determine it's juvenile arthritis? Is there a blood test for that?

He said that there are tests (which they gave her yesterday), but they only detect it about 10% of the time.  So, he just looked at her knee, watched her run around.  Had me touch it, etc. (she wouldn't let him touch it) and he diagnosed her.  He says he sees about 100 cases of this a week (very seasoned guy) and she fits the profile perfectly...swelling without pain.

Right now we are to give her 100 mg of Ibuprofin 3x a day.  After about a week if the swelling doesn't go down, we are to increase the 1st dosage per day to 200 mg.  We go back in three weeks to see her progress.

All I could see from my screen was UPDATE, not the GOOD NEWS bit, so I had my heart in my mouth scrolling down to see if she is OK!  I'm glad she is not in pain and it's likely to be something fairly small and sortable outable.... I have everything crossed that this Nasty will go away and never rear its ugly head again!  Sending good thoughts for you and Riley.

I'm glad it isn't RA; sending healing thoughts.

That IS good news -- and you still have some White Flower Oil?  (make sure she knows not to get it in her eyes!!)  It will help reduce the swelling.

You may also want to give her some milk thistle -- that's a lot of ibuprophen for a wee one and helping protect her liver won't hurt.

Tell her she's a major trooper!!  GOOD GIRL Riley!!!

SOO HAPPY that the news is good!  Doing a HAPPY DANCE for Riley!!!

I also second the milk thistle.
