John Fisher's Two Reward System for Reactive Dogs

Found this at Dee Ganley's web site and thought it might prove interesting, or useful:

I have used a variation of this that I call "abandonment training" (LOL Two Reward System sounds much nicer) that I first learned about at a John Rogerson seminar about 5 or 6 years ago. In the variation I use, the dog/owner team are set up in a park with the dog on a training collar (whatever the owner normally uses) and regular leash and are back tied with a long line on a buckle collar. The set up is about the same but the owner actually drops the regular leash and leaves the area when the dog reacts. I also use a word as a punishment marker, to mark why this is happening to the dog.  Of course I always watched the dog for safety reasons and the owner would be called back when the dog stopped reacting.

Your technique actually sounds more like what Trish King does, sans the choke collar.  Maybe she got it from John, or vice versa;-)

A choke collar is not part of the method I decribed. The dog's regular leash is attached to whatever collar the trainer uses for training (could be a choke collar or a martinglae or a prong or even a harness) and the long line is connected to a buckle collar.

I saw that Trish King has taken up doing this as well but I heard John descibe it years before I ever heard anyone else talk about the method.
