Also -- just plain try a kid's t-shirt UNDER the coat (when it gets *really* cold in January) or even in the house if she seems cold. A girl usually doesn't need much (cos they squat so the fabric stays out of the way) but a male needs the excess at the bottom of the shirt gathered and secured with a rubber band and just tuck the 'tail' underneath.
Pretty much **anything** new will spook her -- so adopting a "ohhh, let's check it OUT" excitement **with you** will help her. Just plain carry treats with you -- and any time you see **anything** unusual go investigate.
Suggesitons: long steep steps at a library or courthouse?
flapping laundry on a line?
playground equipment?
stacks of tires?
gates etc that squeak or make noise
a kid's bike with a horn on it
If you make your walks adventures that are **safe** with you she'll love it and gain confidence. Also -- this dog would hugely benefit from straight obedience class. It will help *you* learn how to teach the dog and help the dog learn to please you. Then the public acceptance/socialization is awesome.
Try and find a private class -- not just something at PetSmart. You'll accomplish more with focus. Try to observe and talk to the trainer BEFORE you go and pay your money tho.
