Becoming the Alpha Dog in Your Own Home ?

Well, not so much

 Sometimes I think people actually believe that Cesear Milan invented common sense. Yes, you need to be consistent as a dog trainer or parent. Yes, you need to provide for your child or dog's basic needs, like exercise, food, and mental stimulation. Yes, you need to set boundaries of what is/isn't acceptable, and you need to enforce them, whether you're talking to your dog, your kid, or your husband. Yes, you need to reward positive behavior and not encourage negative behavior. It seems so self-explanatory!

I agree with Cesar Millan's way to deal with dogs but just how you dont apply human psychology to dogs you should not apply dog psychology to humans either.

I agree with Cita regarding just common sense when it comes to kids and that includes exercise and discipline

 Basic principles of behavior are basic principles of behavior no matter what species you're dealing with, so yes, I can use the same principles with a dog that I can with a human, and I do.

Of course, if you don't like science, just push the kid down on the ground and hold him there.  If he resists or tries to kick you, helicopter him.  And, of course, don't let him go out the door ahead of dad, or eat before mom.  He will take over the house, including your new BMW.

Heck you guys are still pretty far ahead of me!! I'm still wondering which tool to put on the kid's neck to get the best bang for the buck!! I think those "choker" styles were in style at one point.....

Unfortunately common sense isn't so common anymore....it's why people are drawn to reality tv (read: fake!!!) in the first place....they think TV shows can fix all their problems. Common sense to me would be, if you need help with something - find the kind you talk to in person, not a TV personality.

I'm using a high powered ecollar, as well as the threat of a beating if my kids.  It works like a charm.

Seriously though, I don't have an issue with parents using Milan's philosophy of exercise, discipline, & affection.  Honestly, kids do need all of those things, albeit not in Milan's traditional order.  IMO, this style of parenting is just common sense.  Unfortunately, not all parents have common sense.  Those are the people who turn to others, such as Milan, to get "new" ideas on how to handle their kids.
