AAh!! Gobie stop peeing in the house!!

AAh!! Gobie stop peeing in the house!!

Gobie, you are on my last nerve. Do you realize for more than 13 years now you have marked in every house we've lived in, multiple times?  What machoism do you have to prove? Really?  You are fed the best foods, worried over, taken care of in every way and yet you still have to be a jerk and mark in the house?!  Why?  You have a dog door! Go pee on anything you like out there as many times as you want! Seriously!

If it were a nice climate here I would have to make you an outside dog, I really have no other choice!  If I put a belly band on you, and you go through the dog door, then you will soak the belly band!   You have nothing to prove, you've been neutered since 9 months old! Grrr.

What would you do with a naughty dog like this?   After more than 13 years of this problem, I am more than at my wit's end with this dog, and more than tired of pee everywhere!   I've been thinking about just keeping him penned up indoors, except for going potty and walks.

Grrrrrr.  Forgive me but at the moment I'm completely frustrated and Angry

I wanted to add, I brought in the little IRIS indoor pen (white plastic instead of metal wire) so it looks nice set up in the house.  He's locked in there for a while. I don't know what to do. I cant easily block off access ot certain rooms, other than bedrooms because it's a very open floor plan in the house.

Is it fair to my human kids, whose toy room and the big tv is downstairs to block off the top of the stairs so they can't ge up or down because of one (naughty!) dog?

I love him, for his good points, but I will never, ever, ever have another minpin again. Ever. And I never say never! LOL

    • Gold Top Dog

I don't plan on another terrier, ever. LOL

Have you tried actual DIAPERS? Like human childrens' diapers. He's 13. Training is not going to stop him. Get a diaper big enough to wrap around his middle, and some masking tape. Wrap the diaper around him, and tape it on. It will hold a full pee, and it's easy cleanup.  I do it, when I have boys staying here, and I have a couple of breeder friends that do it, when they have girls in season.

    • Gold Top Dog

I haven't tried diapers yet, I did sew him several of what I call P-shirts. Since a belly band slips right off his rear, I made a vest type thing that has a belly band underneath. So it looks like an ordinary vest/shirt but I can put a poise pad on the belly band part.

Here's the deal... then I would have to take out the dog door, because if he does go out to pee, then he'll soak the belly band, kwim?  And since I give the girls a lot of water, they need to pee frequently and it's nice for them to have access to the doggy door when they need it.

Am I being too picky about all this?

    • Gold Top Dog

I went out and got a little hand held blacklight for finding urine.  I also got some spray to clean it.  But it's still very bright out, so I can't check the entire house.  I was able to pull the shades in the bedrooms and part of downstairs and wandered around with the blacklight.

The results are astounding. I can't even be mad I am so shocked!  All the way around my bed has been marked. Seriously, all 3 sides.  There are sprinkle pee (boy- gobie) and curve pee (girl, probably Lexi) ALL the way AROUND my bed.  The corner's of both my kids' beds are marked with sprinkles. There is a sprinkle down the hall (as though he walked down the middle and did a half squat walk mark).

There is a big puddle downstairs where it was dark enough to see and a FRESH one courtesy of Darby. She hates going in the yard to pee and takes every opportunity she can to head down ther to pee.

So now I've decided a few things:

    1. Gobie is demoted, if not both the girls, I can't decide.  He is not allowed up on any of the furniture anymore.

    2. Dog door is OUT.  They will just have to ask to go out.

    3. Gobie wears his Pshirt at all times except when pottying or in his crate.

    4. Dogs are crated ALWAYS when I leave the house and at bedtime.

:(  I Fully know this is behavioral and largely dominance issues.  But still there is this part of me, which, I realize dogs don't give a hoot about, but I want to have a tantrum... "you guys have the best food, the best toys, the best care, never a bad hair day, fussed over, played with, walked, but you treat me like THIS? AAAAH!"

Ok but truly, I am amazingly calm. I killed my carpet shampooer a few weeks ago and I will have to go and get one tomorrow to deal with this and see if I can get it under control.  I found a fresh pee spot (sprinkles) on a dog bed on the floor.   I put up their regular crates instead of their small pen (Lexi will jump out of) and even tho these crates are mismatched and ugly, it's just going to have to be that way.

I do think Lexi wouldn't mark in the house if Gobie would stop/weren't here.  He's about to be a farm dog though, if he keeps this up (just kidding!).

Did I mention I will never, EVER, EVER NEVER NEVER never have a terrier again?   Males are kindof iffy at this point too! Grrrrr.

I certainly wouldn't count on this.  I would put all the dogs on a schedule, and take them out on your time, not theirs.  If you wait for them to "ask", it's usually too late.  I would treat them all as if you were just starting potty training all over, again.

FWIW, I have never waited for my dogs to "ask", and have always taken them out (or let them out) on my schedule---it has not failed me, yet.

    Good luck with this.

Are terriers especially bad when it comes to this? Why is that?

Dottie who is part jack russell is not completely trustworthy in the house either ...

    • Gold Top Dog

Terriers are pushy, snotty dogs, LOL. That is why! Emma is totally reliable, thankfully.

The diaper? Will hold a full pee. That's why I suggested it. You can just change it, several times a day. Gross, I know, but less gross than pee on your bed.

If I did a diaper then it would slide right off his rear. He's got a very slick butt!  I had made him some pee-shirts already, which looks like a vest but a bit longer and then there is a belly band to hold it on. No sliding off his rear! :)  I have poise pads too, and they'll hold a lot of pee as well.

Terriers are just snots!  I've been known to call him a jerk (among other things LOL). They think they have to be the boss of everything, see what's going on in any situation and be the center of attention at all times.

It is also frustrating AND hilarious at the way he will size up a visitor. You can see him thinking about it... "hmm, how much can I get away with this lady?"  and then the person will get the ball test. He barks with the loudest possible bark after placing the ball at visitor's feet.  RWWRAAARRRF!!!.  Then he sees how many times he can get them to throw the ball for him. And he loves this as people usually oblige.  He knows that I will make him do a trick every time (NILIF) so he LOVES pushover visitors .   See?  Tird.  LOL

We, ex- BF and I, had a min pin. We had him 6 years and he peed in the house every chance he got! We even had a dog door, but he preferred peeing indoors. We did rehome him, not because of his peeing, but because we couldn't give him the CONSTANT attention he wanted and needed. Compared to the our heeler x and Tootsie, he was a demon. I will never, never, ever own another terrier!

Double sided tape to the pee vest? LOL

Tie his pee pee in a knot? That works, tooWink Can't tell you how many I've threatened, with that.

I don't think I would've lasted 6 years with this dog, honestly, if dh didn't love him so much. And it's mutual. Gobie perfers dh hands down over me, although I'm the one who does the feeding, grooming, walkng and training with him.  I have to wonder if the markng thing has anything to do with dh being deployed.  He doesn't get attention from his usual person, and I'm generally too busy at this point to do much snuggling anymore.  A few minutes here, a few minutes there, laundry, dishes, bedtime, meals, etc.

Ok this is going to sound really mean, when he's gone I will miss his good points, but I will not miss him for the tirdness he is!

    • Gold Top Dog

I understand. I've been leaving Emma home for matches, one day shows, and about 3-4 days a week from work. It's such a relief not to have to put my entire energy into watching her.

    • Gold Top Dog

    Jennie,
I just dreaded taking Gobie along to dog shows when I was showing my bichons and poodles. He would bark the entire day long. So that meant getting a bark collar. He figured out if he barked and took the zaps on Saturday, by sunday there was no more battery left and he would bark the entire day and drive us all nuts. Now, sure, dogs bark at dog shows, but this dog, he BARKS.  It's unusually loud and deep for a dog his size. He puts his entire body into the act.  This is a dog who also has gotten us nearly evicted from an apartment, and nearly fired from a job because I started bringing him to work with me! aah!

He's one intense dog, that's for sure! I'm glad someone understands about terriers lol.
