    Patty has a humping problem...

OK, my little sweet girly girl Patty has a humping issue...Embarrassed. She's very social with people and dogs. Loves to play and interact with other dogs, but, once she starts playing with a dog, particularly a very small dog she ends up humping it! Male or female, doesn't matter. If the dog snarks at her she will stop, but a few dogs have, most just stood or sat there at allowed her to do it (which is when I pull her off). WTH? At home she has tried to hump Apollo (when he's laying down) and Molson. Apollo will stand up and walk away (she can't get him then) but Molson just sits or stands and lets her do it. If I just pull her off whatever dog shes doing it to when I put her down she's back to "normal" again, playing nicely. I didn't really think it was an issue, just natural dog behavior, until last night when she was humping a stuffed animal in her crate....*sigh*.......She isn't a "dominant" dog by any means, she's actually super submissive and can be very shy (at first).

It could be that this has developed into a type of obsessive behavior.  I would start redirecting and having her do an alternate behavior when she's humping.

I'd also avoid correcting her because if it is obsessive behavior, corrections can make things worse.  Maybe others have some other ideas.

Also, humping the stuffie is a new behavior. Was she groomed recently? Something could be irritating her vulva.

It's really embarrasing....She often plays with a Bichon Frise down the street and all will be fine for about 30-45 mins then she just grabs him and goes to town. I usually just pick her up off him and put her back down and it's like a 'reset' button and she's back to normal playing again.

Nope, she wasn't groomed recently (trying to grow out her fur for a Cocker cut).

If she hasn't had a sanitary clip in a while (I know, it's crazy, but either way can cause an issue), she could have some moisture buildup down there. I'd keep a close eye on it, just because it could be some sort of issue, like a yeast or vaginal infection. Emma has gone hump crazy when she got a UTI.

I will be bringing her for a sanitary clip Saturday (along with her nails being clipped) because it is getting long in those areas. She's been a humper since I got her but recently she's been going crazy! It's like we've been pulling her off Mo 5-6x a day- a minute ago DH pulled her off again! Apollo has been staying away from her- he doesn't like it at all.

Emma's always been a humper, too, but when it gets wild and crazy, I always check her out (she's not nearly as hairy as Patty, LOL) for any signs of redness or irritation. Usually, there's something bothering her. Compulsions can happen, but sudden behavior changes are often physical.
