Actually, if cooked properly (long enough), beef tongue is tender and delicious!! My mom and grandma always cooked it, boiled with onions, garlic, bay leaf for a long time (depending on size), then peeled the skin off and sliced. For the dogs, you could probably leave the skin on though. I haven't made it in a while, but it is sounding really good right now. I've never tried cooking it in the crock pot. Will have to try it. My dogs absolutely love it!!!!
Funny story.....years ago I cooked it for my (now ex) husband while he was at work (he had sworn he would never eat it). I sliced it on his plate before serving it to him. He said it was the most tender steak he ever had. I finally told him what it was...... he slept on the couch for 3 nights!!!!!! He was not happy!!!!!!
