Soft food ideas?

OK, I'm desperate, please help.

As some of you may have gathered, DH had surgery on his jaw this week. Long story as to why and if I tell it here, most people will not even want to think about food.

But, he can't chew...at ALL. He thought he'd be able to, the doctor's said he'd be able to, but with a mouth full of stitches that is also numb, he can't sense where the food IS in his mouth to chew it. He's been living on custard, homemade applesauce, mashed potatoes, yogurt and milkshakes. He's sick of all these foods, so tonight I went out and got him a tin of ready-made spaghetti, it being tinned everything in there has been thoroughly cooked and is soft, and I cut the noodles up into tiny pieces so he could just swallow it. Of course, he's going to get tired of this solution in a day or so, too.

Any ideas for soft foods - particularly soft savoury foods - that don't include soup, which he doesn't like?

Mac and cheese? Make your own "baby food" by pureeing whatever meat you cook in it's own juices. It won't be as satisfying as a fat juicy steak, but if you take care to use the natural juices it'll TASTE just as good. Any pasta will work so long as you are willing, or he is, to cut it very small, scrambled eggs should be easy to handle. Poor man!

Ooh good ideas, thanks Glenda. I do feel really sorry for him, they literally had to open up his entire lower gum, and he's feeling pretty miserable at the moment. Mostly I think he's hungry, anyone would be on Friday night when their last proper meal was Monday evening. :(

Oatmeal is good. Stuffing with soft baked chicken in it. Chili doesn't require chewing most of the time.

Do you think he could handle scrambled eggs? Perhaps in a day or two.

Mashed bananas, mac n cheese.

There's a trick to using your tongue to mash the food against the top of your mouth. Sounds hard but it isn't. Believe it or not, using this method pringles are a godsend.

no problem Kate. My youngest son has done a million things that have required me to be able to come up with "edibles" he could handle, including stitches in his tongue when he was three! Tell that man we all hope he's feeling better...and FULL....fast!

He managed to eat some scrambled eggs (scrambled nice and soft with plenty of milk and butter) this morning, and I've come up with what i think should be a soft edible pasta dish which I'll cook for him tonight.

Much appreciated, ladies. His stomach says thank you LOL.

So glad to hear that Kate. Poor man must feel like he's in some kind of food Heck....and if he watches TV at all during the day to pass the time, EVERYTHING seems to be about food! That sure doesn't help.

Oh he's bitter LOL. He wants a slab of meat on his plate every night and he's not allowed to eat a grilled steak for TWO MONTHS - doctor's orders. When he's a bit better I'll start crockpotting lamb and beef for him, but no inch-thick rib eyes until the new year. I think when the time comes I will take him out for an expensive dinner for steak with all the trimmings.

Just checking on your Hubby, I was wondering how his soft diet is going or if he is finally able to eat.

Oh, thank you! He can eat normal foods now, just has to stay away from anything REALLY crunchy or chewy for the next month or so. :)
