    Can I do it?(kle1986)

Well I went to class tonight with only Joker. Lillie is in heat so she got to stay home. Let me tell you when I put Joker's crate in the car and I wouldnt let Lillie in she wasnt a very happy dog. This is a dog that 2 months ago you had to shove in the car and now you have to fight with her to get out!!! Not really fight with her but you know what I mean.

Joker was a punk tonight. He wanted nothing to do with walking nicely on the leash or standing for me. He wanted to PLAY with the other pup in class. I know he can walk good on the leash and stand because he has been doing a great job all week long at home. But then again I have been using bait with him and my trainer was having us lay off the bait a little.

I have a dilemma. When I started these classes I had no show potential dog. I have Joker who is to be my show dog. Now the lady with the Irish Setters said she has 4 pups and if I wanted she would be willing to let me handle one of them for her. My dream is to show Irish Setters and now I have the opportunity to. Is it possible for me to work with 2 pups to be show dogs? I am very new at this stuff so I am surprised that someone is willing to let me handle one of their potential champions. What am I supposed to do?!!! I really want to show Irish Setters but I dont want to put Joker on the back burner because he isnt my #1 favorite breed.

Is it possible for me a newbie to get 2 pups ready for showing?

Boy I wish I could answer that for you.  It seems like a challenge for sure, but I've never shown so don't really know whats involved to prepare a dog.  Lots of specific training and grooming...I'd guess.  Would the lady mentor you?

Of course it is! It will take more time than having just one dog, though... But if you have the will, time and patience to do it, it will all turn out just fine. Usually puppies learn this really fast.

I'd take the chance if I were you...

I say go for it.  You know if you don't you'll probably regret it.

Of course it's possible! I'm working with my own two, and handling a young Doberman.... It's just MORE fun!

Agree 100% - if you dont you will be beating yourself up thinking about what would have happened and asking urself why all the time for not doing it. NEVER EVER let a dream or opportunity pass you by for no reason even if you think you arent ready. You can do anything you set your mind to!

I have all the time in the world to handle 2 dogs well 3 counting Lillie too. Being a stay at home mom to a 3 year old isnt very time consuming.

I guess next Tuesday I will be bringing home another dog!!! Lol. Poor JJ.

JJ and Rick (my DH) can console each other.  LOL

Ok I will tell him that!!

Will the setter pup be living with you?

    • Gold Top Dog

Yeah the pup will be living with me. I dont know how all that works but we're gonna discuss everything Tuesday.

wow a stranger is gonna trust you enough to let you "borrow" one of her dogs- how weird! If you cant handle joker i would be glad to take him off your hands for awhile!!Big Smile

The main concern i have is having 3 unaltered dogs in your house, and then 2 more. Sounds a little risky, but i'm sure an actual show person would have better advice

My concern is that raising one puppy to be a show dog is tough enough....raising two at once I think is something that should be kept for the VERY experienced.  I wouldn't even raise two pet puppies together, though I'm aware people do it.  Showing is also not a cheap hobby so be sure to discuss with this breeder the financial aspect.  Which one of you is going to be responsible for all of the costs?

And this may not be a popular opinion, but I'd be wary of any breeder who offered you a puppy, to keep at your home, knowing you just got one.  That does not scream quality breeder to me.

Cheyanne and Kujo are spayed. It's just Lillie and Joker that are intact. Lillie will be getting spayed when she gets out of heat since she could care less about being a show dog.
