    Poo Poo Nirvana!!!

I know there are some of you out there who can relate to this, so I just have to share.  My dogs have had perfect tootsie roll poops for like 3 weeks running now.  I can't even describe how happy this makes me!  I know, I'm sad and have no life, but there it is.  Dealing with their stomachs and their diets has been such a pain.  They've been doing well for a while but there always seemed to be some tweaking needed or they'd do well for a couple days and then there'd be the unexplained diarrhea or I'd try adding some new supplement or attempt to incorporate an oil and would spend 2 weeks recovering.  About a month ago, they had a bug and getting them straight required Panacur and patience.  It seems I've found the perfect routine, I'm hoping this holds out for a while. I'm so thrilled!!!

I probably jinxed myself now.  Hmm

Congratulations! What are you feeding them?

They're both on homecooked meals developed by a veterinary nutritionist at VA Tech.  It's pretty basic though, brown rice, peas and carrots and canned salmon.  They get alot of supplements to balance the vitamins/nutrients, etc. and it includes fiber sources which they both seem to need as well as supplements to address arthritis symptoms Indie had when I got him.  I'm starting to eyeball the ginger I use as a possible source of the good poops.  It's good for the stomach as well as being a great anti-inflammatory and I have been using a new source and adding more than before lately.  Can't point to one single thing being the magic bullet, but you can bet I'll be keeping things *exactly* as they are right now and keeping fingers and toes crossed.  Big Smile

For sensitive dogs, real basic is often best!
I know, at first you feel like a mean doggie parent because they're only getting one protein and one carb and a bit of veg ... but once you see it actually working, it's like a revelation.

How do you add the ginger - in what form? Fresh or dried/powder?
I've been trying to figure out how to be able to incorporate it, but it's obviously very strong tasting so my dogs shy away. And I'm worried about using raw grated ginger due to high tummy sensitivity. Maybe I should try adding a little chopped ginger while the food is cooking, the way I would for our own?

I got a new fancy brand of powdered ginger.  They get about 1/4 tsp. in each meal.  I was using the grated ginger in jars for a while.  I also give Indie a dice-size cube of crystallized ginger now and then from the health store.

So, I can just add some of my ginger in the shaker (the one with all the other spices at the store) that I use for cookies and stuff?  She'd probably really like it!

    Thanks!

That's what I do.  Indie loves the crystallized ginger, Woobie won't touch it.
